How I Met Your Mother - Part 2

I always get goosebumps whenever they cut to Barney and Robin's wedding…

I mean that whole event and what will happen, is pretty much the climax of the entire series so whenever they tease us with a quick scene, I get hyped. Haha.

Oh and i'm thinking this pretty much dispels the speculation that the mother is Barney's half-sister?

Not necessarily, it certainly does hurt the odds of it being Barney's sister (as it would be some coincidence for her band to be playing at her half-brother's wedding) but doesn't make it impossible.

But it's TOO much of a coincidence if it does happen to be his sister...

Plus, at this point, I don't see why it's important that the mother is Barney's sister.

I read the IGN review and picked up on something that flew over my head while watching the episode, but apparently the wedding date is May 25, 2013, which most likely means it will be the finale. So I think either they will reveal the mother at the end of that episode, and continue with her story in season 9, or they will somehow jerk us around again and leave the reveal and official meeting for next season because Ted couldn't get to her or something.

If they wanna do it right, they'll introduce her at the end of the finale and continue the story in 9.

Ted approaches her, they shake hands, camera pans up, she speaks, we get her name.

Fade to black. Season over. On to number 9.

Sooooo glad the timeframe is settled. I was afraid we'd close in on the end of this season only to have them go "Sorry! Wedding's not until mid/late season 9! Suckers!!!"

I KNEW IT!!

Ted's wife is going to part of the band, and that's where he first sees her. I'm guessing he doesn't get a chance to talk to her until after the reception.

Also, I'm surprised they did Bilson's return as just a cameo, even though that's probably the best way to handle that situation.
that wasn't necessarily the whole/only scene, that was just a flash forward of things to come, there might be more to that scene that we'll see in the future episode, which she could have a bigger part in

Yeah, I have a feeling we'll see the story of how Ted got onto the train with them. Ted doesn't take the train very often, does he?

Looked like the subway to me.

Yeah, a train/subway.

Ted lives in NYC. Of course he takes the subway. LOL.

I know plenty of people that live in the city and don't take the subway.

So at least we know that Barney and Robin do actually get married. Robin was dancing with her father at what looked like the reception. There was speculation before that Barney and Robin might not actually go through with it in the end based on Ted's comments about how the day went.

And it looks like Ted does see the mother before the incident with the yellow umbrella, so the scene at the bus stop isn't the first time he actually sees her. It's the first time he realises that she is the girl with the yellow umbrella. But he obviously knew she was Rachel Bilson's flatmate during the wedding.

I hope she is a proper character next season, I and i hope also that Bilson does play a bit more and maybe even has a hand in getting them together.

Just rewatched the ep, it's a subway.

And I loved that they didn't hype up Rachel Bilson being on the show, when she popped up you knew BIG stuff as about to go down.

I have to imagine Bilson and her girlfriend will pop up again toward the end of the season. If it was just intended as a one-time cameo, I think they would've just used Bilson. Why bring back the girlfriend too unless they've got a bigger story planned for them?

It might've been just for consistency. People might not have recognized her if we didn't have that memory trigger of "oh yeah, the lesbian one." Ted has had a lot of girlfriends.

One thing that was tiresome about this episode was Ted still pining of Robin. Why is he still doing that? Sure, it was nice to have that rooftop scene where Lily admits that she resents being a mother and wishes she could have been an artist. But "The Final Page" 2-part episode was supposed to have symbolised Ted finally letting go of Robin and giving her and Barney his blessing. Now he's going back on it in his mind? He needs to move on from that.

The show should end with Ted saying, "Thats How I Met Your Mother".
Then spin off the show with a different name.

Like Smallville from season 5 on should have been called Metropolis.

I mentioned a few weeks ago that there were rumors of her returning, but the producers wouldn't say when, where or how. But I thought it would be have been connected to the episode with Ashley Benson, which I think will be next week, where it could have been revealed that she was the roommate. However, I think this episode description might reveal that she actually is Barney sister.

Even though Ted and his new girlfriend share none of the same interests, Barney continues to urge Ted to keep seeing her...until he learns who she is. Meanwhile, Robin is learning to adapt to her new status as an engaged woman.

I don't necessarily think they are going to have Ted still be in love with her, but I think that they will address the issue that he doesn't understand why she would marry Barney, but never wanted to get married with him when they were together. I think a lot of us felt, years back when the idea of Barney and Robin getting married first popped up, that Ted would be upset and a bit jealous because he thought she was the one, but she just didn't want the same things as he did. And now, she has sort of completely changed her feelings about marriage and stuff with Barney, and its only natural to wonder why. It kind of reminds me of the ending of (500) Days of Summer.

Eh, I don't know. With Smallville, everyone was expecting season 5 to be the year that he became Superman, since they introduced the fortress and everything and the belief was that once he got there, it would be like the movie where he was gone for seven years and came back as Superman. But I feel like the reason they kept on without bringing in Superman was because they only wanted to tell the journey. They never wanted to do a Superman show because at that point, it wouldn't have had the same kind of purpose to go on.

To be honest, I'm not sure a season about Ted and the mother would be all that great because you know they end up together in the end, and you know that even if they fight or break up for a while, they will still end up together and it takes a lot of the drama and tension away, just like the Barney/Robin arc did for a lot of people. It had a great payoff, but I'm not sure if a season devoted to the mother will be the same.

I don't think it was really about Ted 'pining' over Robin still more than it was his frustration as to well...why Barney?

She spent so much of their relationship resenting the idea of marriage and yet now she's engaged.

As the ex, I too wouldn't be necessarily wanting her back moreso than I would be, "Dude...what the ****?"

Yeah I felt that part was executed right. I'm sick of Ted/Robin but I felt Ted had legitimate questions and the scene with Lily was just amazing. Great performance from Hannigan.

Benson being Barney's sister means she won't be the mother and my number one theory goes down the drain. Second fav theory is its the girl Ted runs into in the club on St Patty's Day.

This has been one of the most prominent theories for years, but I just can't help but feel like that is just a red herring. I feel like they never try to make things too obvious, and there always seems to be some kind of twist to keep that from happening. I mean the fact that they purposely show something like Ted bumping into a random girl could either be them saying the mother was right in front of us this whole time, or it could be them trying to trick us and make us go crazy looking at every little detail over who the mother could be. I like the theory, but I'm a bit hesitant to buy into it.
