How I Met Your Mother - Part 4

I feel like they wanted to be that bitter sweet finale, but took it too far to the extreme. They didn't have to destroy Barney and Robin, give Barney a love child, and kill the mother.

The FRIENDS finale didn't do anything crazy, but it was bitter sweet knowing that Chandler and Monica were moving out of the apartment and the gang was probably going to lose touch over the years. But there was still hope that their friendships would continue on, even though all six of them were starting new lives.

HIMYM could have had that. A happy ending, but knowing that Marshall and Lilly were headed to Rome, Barney and Robin were starting a life together, and Ted finally met his one true love. You're happy knowing they're all getting what the want, but sad cause you realize those nights at Maclaren's are probably taking a back seat.

This wasn't bittersweet. It was downright cruel at times for the first 56 mins. But the ending itself wasn't bittersweet. That was a "happy ending".

Instead the creators gave us the finger...
They did no such thing, and suggest so is ridiculous.

I agree. That was the problem. And it felt like it was unnecessary. As if it were cruel for the sake of it.

After almost an hour of cruelty, it felt like putting a tiny band-aid on a gunshot wound.

I've been thinking about the finale.

And why I still don't think they executed it properly (primarily in regards to the Barney/Robin relationship), I feel that...... while Robin wasn't Ted's true love, Ted was her true love.

Just like, in a way (as shown by "How Your Mother Met Me"), Ted wasn't the Mother's true love, but she was his.

You could see it in Lily and Robin. Robin became super bitter, and every time Lily cried you could feel the weight of time and the world.

True. And it really didn't feel like it fit the tone of the rest of the episode. But well, it did make me smile. It took the weight of time, and well. Made it not so heavy for a few moments.

Hadn't thought of it like that before but it's kind of true.

To each his own.

It's not the ending I wanted, but it's not the worst ending I've ever experienced. There's still Mass Effect 3.

Since I've only seen the first season and a half along with a few other episodes in between, I didn't have a problem with the finale. :o

And those are pretty much the only types who wouldn't.

Mass Effect 3 was up there with Wrestlemania 9 in terms of bad endings. :funny:

Thinking back to bad endings, the American "Life on Mars" is up there. Same with the third act of the Wolverine and Spider-Man 3.

X-Men 3, Godfather 3, Matrix: Revolutions, Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End, Blade Trinity, wow I can just keep going.

But I remember some endings that I wasn't entirely happy with, Angel and Pushing Daisies because they were canceled. The latter had a quick put together ending.

I don't think it was as terrible as others but generally series finale's are rarely well received. I mean, how many finales were people ultimately happy with...?

MASH
Newhart
Cheers
Six Feet Under

Not a heck of a lot when you think about it.

I liked the last episode of Futurama.

Office was okay too.

And I think most fans were happy with Sex and the City.

As a fan of Friends, Sex and The City, and The Golden Girls, I can say I was happy with all three finales.

Pushing Daisies killed me. Just because it was over and they didn't even give them a proper send off.

Don't agree on AWE. I think the actually ending was great. The movie wasn't, but the last 20 mins was quite fitting, especially considering CotBP.

Breaking Bad.

I never watched the show but I was curious what people thought of the final because I see alot of stuff on other places saying they disliked the final and felt cheated. I have a saying when it comes to writers/producers who think they must have some great literary final that swerves the public as if they are Bill Shakespeare. I basically say they love the smell of their own farts. Sounds like the ending was a case of that. Sometimes simpler is better

I Married Dora had the greatest ending to a show ever.

I wouldn't say that was the problem at all.
