I still think Tracy's death was given all the attention it needed. We didn't need funerals, we didn't need tears. All of that is implied. I shudder to think what such a devastating loss would do to a guy like Ted. But I didn't need to see that particular raw emotion in the finale. Too heavy IMO. I always knew if the revelation of the mother being dead were to happen, it would have to be in a subtle sort of way where Ted is talking to the kids about something they already know while clueing the audience in.
And for the all the Tracy lovers...here's why I could care less about seeing him end up with Tracy. She was TOO perfect. Robin absolutely had flaws as a character, but that made her more real. What we see of Tracy is the saintly image that Ted is painting of her for his kids. Yes, she was cute. Yes, she was bubbly. Yes, she was his soul mate. But him ending up with her and living happily ever after? Boring.
