The Amazing Spider-Man 2 How should the Goblin look???

i think its fair to say GG will be a mutant of sorta

I'm not totally opposed to this (because I think it's a certainty that's the route they'll be going and fighting it is pointless) but I would still prefer something more akin to the classic GG i.e. crazy mask-wearing Norman. At the very least I hope he looks like the classic Goblin.

I don't share in the Ultimate universe hate overall but Ultimate Goblin himself sucked eggs.

I wouldn't have a problem if they explain that the inside of the mask is lined with like nanotech, and adheres itself to the face when put on. Maybe put the Chameleon on Osborn's payroll, and say his company came up with the tech that allows the Chameleon to quickly change faces.

That would work perfectly I think

I've decided that I want a goblin mask that takes inspiration from the mask in Dishonored. Something creepy and broken; with bits of tech holding it together in a disjointed way. The whole suit should fit this motif.

I don't think it cripples the imaginative spirit at all. Mistranslations of what "grounded and realistic" mean might. No, when you adapt the fantastic elements of the comics, you ground them by showing how a city might respond to those elements in real life. If anything, grounding the concepts in realism supplements the imaginative spirit.

That said, I'm interested in Norman's motive for choosing a mask that looks like a goblin. Assuming they don't make him a cross-species chimera.

Before you sacrifice me to the Drowned God (more people need A Song of Ice and Fire-related names), allow me to clarify. I don't think anything is wrong with the concept. Nolan's Batman films are a testament to how it can be done effectively. It's the trend or "fad," if you will, that bugs me. When one person does it effectively, a lot of people try to do the same thing. It's "crippling the imaginative spirit" in the sense that it's the current standard or default concept to work with. Most people don't want to act outside of it when making a film.

We're on the same wavelength, there. I agree that there's no reason to pick the less fantastical villain (Joker, Bane, Two-Face, Catwoman are all a tad more realistic than characters like Clayface, Ivy, and Freeze) simply because one director decided to do so. It should really be about what fits the director's vision for the character and film.

I disagree on the "crippling the imaginative/creative spirit" bit. It is FAAAAR easier to just go wild without care or need of it making sense than it is to look at such a fantastical character like the Goblin and try to make him work in a setting that some may seem "realistic" without sacrificing who and what the character is. It takes FAR more creativity and imagination to do that than say "screw it, toss him in a purple tunic and give him a jet powered broomstick because **** it, that's how it was in the comics".

Granted, people CAN use it as a crutch, but the result will always be lackluster if that's the case.

It is no easier to pull off one concept than another. I would argue that making a straight from the pages design for a character work is far more difficult to do than changing it to make it more digestable for the audience. Some skill is needed to take either route, but the 'grounded and realistic' concept is the current trend. Most film makers don't want to work outside of it not only because its the default, but because that's what audiences are demanding ('grounded and realistic' and 'dark and gritty' are terms widely used on fansites). It's a bubble film makers work in. Crafting a vision that exists outside of it is difficult as a result.

I also hope that they give him an actual motivation in this movie, or at least TELL us what his motivation is, besides randomly destroying **** like in the last film.

Green Goblin needs to have a physical costume and mask. It's part of his character, and not just physically--it defines his psyche.

What am I talking about? Do yourself a favor and read this to get a real understanding of what makes Norman Osborn Norman Osborn: http://scans-daily.dreamwidth.org/4507489.html

I like this idea - perhaps something combined with this? The Thor 2 pic had my imagination stirred for Gobby for sure!

I have a feeling we're going to be seeing the ultimate Goblin for some reason... It's not a good feeling.

I am getting a slight feeling towards this - not that it's an entirely bad thing... the clues for me are entire scenes in TASM being rendered fully in CGI and being made to look hyper realistic. It's cheaper to have CGI than get an actor on a green screen on a glider-like apparatus - Webb already have one villain who was entirely CGI in his altered state.

I guess we'll see...

It's just disappointing to have another big green monster as another villain if they do go this route. That's why I love the Goblin from TSSM. I want intelligence and thought out elaborate plans. I want Peter tested on a whole new level.

Electro isn't completely CGI, and he isn't green, so we are getting something different. Rhino as well.

That's not a bad jumping off point.

I intended on sketching up some ideas for the fun of it, but my PC is on the fritz, and even after reinstalling Windows over the weekend, I'm still getting the BSOD...need to get that figured out so I can actually do my job before I play around with fan art doodles. :/
