How would YOU reboot the Fantastic 4?

Ain't nobody want F4 with Flash or Smallville production quality

This. And I would say even Netflix production quality (while fine for the characters they've tackled) isn't nearly enough for the FF.

The thing that made FF unique when they first appeared is the comics featured monsters, aliens, foreign worlds and realms and unique, visually exciting characters.

The next FF film needs spectacular visuals and that doesn't come cheap. A talented director, with the right people and technology might be able to pull it off on a $150 million budget, but part of the reason previous films have failed so hard is the visuals haven't been close to what they need to be.

I'd rather never see another attempt at FF than another limp, weak, cheap effort.

I've recently come to the idea that the rebooted F4 shouldn't be an origin story like Spider-Man: Homecoming is going to be. However in saying that, Doctor Doom should not be the main villain in this movie either. I will be open to Victor Von Doom and Latveria showing up on the news or something though.

As for villains I reckon the rebooted film oughta be a great opportunity to introduce Namor too in a Batman v Superman kinda way but without the massive slugfest we saw in the latter. So this is the F4 film I wouldn't mind seeing as it will kick off not one iconic property but another as well. :)

So.... Fant4stic premiered on HBO this weekend, and is now on demand through HBO GO.

For gluttons for punishment, here's your chance to watch it in good quality for essentially free if you're a subscriber to HBO.

Homecoming isn't an origin. We're not going to get Peter bitten by the spider and then Uncle Ben dying because of Peter's irresponsibility in stopping a burglar.

At least not as a major part of the plot. It could appear as a flashback or credit sequence.

I just had a great idea.
You know that actor a bunch of people wanted for Spider-Man but he was too old and some thought he was too smug?
Dylan O'Brien.
As Johny Storm, A.K.A. The Human Torch.

Hear me out:
I just need help finding the door.

But seriously, he can do comedy, and be smug all he wants, and still be a loved character.

I'm not suggesting this because I am a big fan of him, I don't even watch teen wolf (other than a few episodes to see O'Brien) and personally don't think he was that great in maze runner. (Though part of what makes him good is his humor.)

But I feel that he would fit perfectly as the human torch.

The only problem is he doesn't have blonde hair, and he might not be considered a good looking guy like Johnny Storm would be.

I came to this realization after watching the ol' Fantastic 4 series and realizing how much better Chris Evans was as Johnny Storm compared to Micheal B. Jordan. (And I am one to think Micheal B. Jordan did an ok job.) I think the main reason was Chris Evans quips, charm, and also the fact that he was a bit arrogant. (Similar to why RD Jr works great as Stark) So I thought, who would be good with humor, but also slightly smug? I immediately thought of how many people wanted to see Dylan O'Brien in the MCU, and thought that he would work well.

Personally I thought Miles Teller was a better Reed Richards than Ioan Gruffudd. I just felt that Miles did a good job at not just being a bit ignorant of some social things, but still smiling and having a cheery attitude that Reed Richards does in the comics. So if it would be possible we could keep Miles IMO, though I'm sure we could find someone else who would be a better choice.

Ioan Gruffudd would be a better Reed than Teller though if the part were written differently. In almost everything else I've seen Ioan in, he's much more like a classic Reed Richards than in Fantastic Four.

In the short-lived TV series "Forever", he was very Reed like in there. He came across as intelligent but not completely nerdy or timid. He was far more leadership like and willing to put his life at risk, and more sure of himself. I think, as he's gotten older too, he's more suitable for the part now than he was back then. It's almost a shame he played Reed before, because he would've been great for the part now.

And I didn't think Teller was great anyway. I still thought Ioan was better. Teller was like some brat. It's not like Ioan wasn't cheery at all.

I had the same exact thought when I saw "Forever". It was like "where was this when they were filming F4?" One thing you have to remember is that a performance isn't solely on an actor. It depends a lot on the script and directing as well. If the director/studio tells you to play it one way, then you play it that one way. Not many actors have the ability or fortitude to pull rank on director and act how they want to.

All I ever saw him in was Fantastic 4. But I do agree that the leadership qualities made him more like Reed.
If we can find someone else like him that would be great, so long as it was written well and he smiled.

One thing's for sure: Micheal Chiklis was a perfect Ben Grimm.

I guess getting the right actors is half the battle, kinda like what Paul Rudd said in some Civil War interviews, much of the character comes from the script, the people who came up with what the character says and does in every instance. Other than that there's improv and some of the movements or tones of voice come from an actor. Though it was also stated after he said that by Joe Russo that he was being humble giving the writers and directors all the credit when he deserved a lot too.

Agreed, Chiklis was the perfect Ben Grimm. I wouldn't be against O'Brien as Johnny, but I'd rather they cast someone slightly younger

I don't have strong feelings about Dylan O'Brien, but I'd be fine with him as Johnny Storm.

Ben Whishaw - Reed Richards

^ I like Wishaw as Reed. But I'd go...

Alice Eve/Sue Storm

Not sure about Doom and I can't picture Seth Rogen as Ben Grimm

No to Ben Wishaw as Reed. I don't want him to be this very meek and weedy nerd again. They need to move away from that image. I don't see him at all as the leader of the Fantastic Four.

They need to get back to the earlier days where Reed was more of a gung ho leader and man of action in addition to being a genius. I want him to be more like this:

I want Reed more in this mould than a Ben Wishaw mould:

tim-daly-07.jpg

Tim Daly plays a professor of theology on Madam Secretary as well as a former military man. He'd make a good Reed. He voiced Superman in the animated series too, and has a stronger leadership quality.

And if not him, then someone in that vein. I don't want someone who is merely going to be Q branch who supplies the gadgets to the guy who goes out there on missions. I want Reed to be the one who actually goes on the missions and is tough and confident enough to hold his own.

Who's to say Winshaw couldn't? Just because someone has played a certain type of role doesn't mean they can't play another.

Michael Roark for Johnny Storm

Alex Meraz for Wyatt Wingfoot

I would reboot the Fantastic Four for them to fit into the MCU but let's be honest here FOX won't exactly give up the rights to Reed, Sue, Johnny and Ben willingly not unless Disney/Marvel were to somehow make a really great deal to get the rights

But for a Marvel MCU Fantastic Four that is no longer a part of FOX but is now a part of the Disney Marvel Cinematic Universe my fan cast would be:

Reed Richards/Mr. Fantastic- Matt Damon (The Martian; Elysium; Bourne films)
Ben Grimm/The Thing- Jason Clarke (Terminator Genisys; Zero Dark Thirty)
Sue Storm/Invisible Woman- Diane Kruger (Troy; Unknown)
Johnny Storm/Human Torch- Dylan O'Brien (The Maze Runner films)
Victor Von Doom/Doctor Doom- Matthew Goode (Watchmen; Match Point)

I prefer a mid 30 to mid 40 year old Reed, like Downey Jr was for the first IM. Then Sue about 10 years younger and Johnny the young adult.

Which is why I went with Matt Damon as Reed and Diane Kruger as Sue

Damon would make a fantastic Reed and would be a name to attract people back to this smelly property.

Exactly what I have been saying and Damon as Reed would actually be perfect casting plus it gets Damon away from the DCEU especially since his BFF Ben Affleck is there as Batman

Damon is probably a little too old for Reed. He's already 46 and we aren't getting a reboot until 2020 at the earliest meaning he'd be 50
