How would YOU reboot the Fantastic 4?

Then in that case I would probably go with this cast instead:

Reed Richards/Mr. Fantastic: Tom Cavanagh
Sue Storm/Invisible Woman: Alice Eve
Johnny Storm/Human Torch: Dylan O'Brien
Ben Grimm/The Thing: Joel Edgerton
Victor Von Doom/Doctor Doom: Luke Evans

Tom Cavanagh might be almost better as Dr Doom.

To be honest I don't think the last movie was that bad. Really I just it seemed more incomplete than anything else. I don't think it was good or great but I do think that it was ok. I think that it could've been much much better but it isn't as bad as what people make it out to be. It just seems incomplete and could be better.

I agree. I think some people went into it thinking "This is gonna be horrible" then came out still saying that, nitpicking every little detail. I personally thought it would probably be ok, then heard it was horrible, but once I saw it I enjoyed it. So for entertainment sakes it was great, as far as comic accurate it wasn't too great. But it still wasn't HORRIBLE.

Really it seems with a bunch of movies people either love em, or hate em, when in reality they shouldn't be hated but weren't that great, or were just ok when people's standards are perfect. Some people are claiming Civil War was horrible. Just because of a few things they personally didn't like, or didn't understand.

When my wife and I get out of a movie, we always talk about the parts that we enjoyed and/or moments that stuck out.

With Civil War, we were talking quite a bit about Spider-Man, Ant-Man, "I can do this all day" and several other things.

I can't imagine what there is to talk about after FF other than how bad it was. With the possible exception of the first five minutes, it's a dull, lifeless experience from beginning to end.

There's no point to it. The situations and dialogue are painfully bad. There are far more moments that made me cringe than smile.

For those who enjoyed it, what are the moments you particularly enjoyed?

So now we have people claiming that those who thought FFINO was bad didn't actually think it was that bad but felt obliged to say it was because it had already gained a terrible reputation? :whatever:

Movies aren't just good or bad, they fall on a scale of how good or bad they were. I'm just saying it wasn't horrifying. There was some good in it, and denying that would be claiming it's of the devil. Some people over exaggerate how bad it was. That's all I said.

It's obviously not "of the devil". It's simply a very bad film. I have no problem declaring it, in my opinion, the worst film I saw in 2015 . . . and I saw Joe Dirt 2 in 2015. Joe Dirt 2 wasn't "of the devil" either, but it was also a very bad film (but a very bad film that at least made me laugh in spots).

According to the critics on Rotten tomatoes, FF scored a 9% and Joe Dirt 2 scored a 0%. According to the audience, 19% of the people who saw FF liked it. 22% who saw Joe Dirt 2 liked it.

So you, as someone who liked FF are in the minority. You're the one in five who liked it. You're not crazy . . . but the people who didn't like it are more normal than you.:cwink:

If you can find a post by someone who says: "THIS FILM WAS SO BAD IT KILLED MY SISTER", they're probably exaggerating and you can call them out on that exaggeration.

If, however, someone says: "FF is the worst superhero film I've ever seen." That's a perfectly rational and justifiable opinion that isn't unreasonable based on the objective evidence of independent, professional film reviewers who have rated it among the worst superhero films ever made.

I specifically said I think it was a bad film... I enjoyed it, but I agree it was a bad film and not up to my personal standards. And you don't have to exaggerate that much to be exaggerating.

Yes, people have different views, but peoples views of how good or bad it was are skewed by what others say, what they expected, and what their standard is. In F4's case there are undoubtedly people who claim it is horrible, when in reality they never gave it a chance. That's all I'm saying... it's not like I'm saying it was a great movie. Not sure where you got that idea.

Also, no one is 'more normal' than anyone else. Everyone is unique.

Fantastic Four (original one) is on Netflix. I've only watched it once when it came out in theaters, just rewatched the first half. Its pretty fun.

In the comics, whats the justification for Sue and Johnny going in Space? In that movie, Johnny is at least a Nasa drop out/pilot and Sue is a scientist as well. If they go a young Johnny (Tom Holland's age), I can't see a good explanation on why he is tagging along (and Sue for that matter).

There basically is no justification for Sue and Johnny going up in the original comics. Or, let me revise that: "Reed wants to get into Sue's pants, so he invites her along dangerous experimental rocket flight. Sue insists on bringing her kid brother along, so he comes too."

Which is to say, no justification. Comics have, to the best of my knowledge, never *really* retconed this. They just try their best to not think about it.

I feel there's no reason not to think about it for a movie either, though, imo.

I think it could be more easily rationalized today than it could in the early '60s.

Today, the cutting edge of space travel is private and a lot of work is being done toward "space tourism".

I'd make the trip related to a final shakedown of Reed's design which he feels (in hindsight wrongly so) is so safe there's no reason his girlfriend and her brother can't come along for the ride.

I don't like what Fox has done because, in both treatments, they've changed Johnny fairly drastically to make him fit in. I'd rather stretch credibility and keep him a kid who is very different than the others than make him a mature pilot/scientist just to make it seem more believable.

Yeah, I bought the original two on blu ray and digital hd for like $10 recently. I watched the first one and it was at least a little fun.

I think that a deal has already been made with Marvel . I would almost bet on it. Fox knows there is nothing they can do with the property

How would YOU reboot the Fantastic 4?

Give it to Marvel/Disney and let Feige handle everything. Also watch the previous FauxTastic 4 movies and do the complete opposite of what they did.

Easy.

While I was watching Civil War the 1st time when Peter Parker showed up and remebered me why I love the character, I thought "If they can do a better job than Sony in 20 mins instead of 5 movies, imagine how great would be MCU's version of the F4!"

Makes me wonder if they're willing to change parts of the FF mythos how about you change something else?

Susan Storm is a keen astronomer and rocket expert, aiding her are two resident geniuses Reed Richards a NASA Scientist and Victor Von Doom a European genius and rival of Reed's.
Reed and Victor fall out after Victor steals their latest design for a spaceship in an attempt to prove who was really responsible for the design they race to get an otherwise obsolete rocket design of Sue's and with the help of Reed's former Astronaut friend Benjamin Grimm attempt to launch the modified rocket.
Unknown to any of them Sue's immature younger brother Johnny sneaks aboard not revealing himself until they're too far along to cancel the launch and it takes off heading into orbit where their experimental new drive kicks in and it launches them into Mars orbit.
Phobos turns out to have been an asteroid modified into a space station belonging to a race that appear to have been very similar to humanity (they were Kree).
Boarding the station they're joined by Doom using the experimental spaceship he stole and in the resulting fight they release what appears to have been samples of an unknown force responsible for rendering Mars uninhabitable.
Forced to flee the station after the damage awakens some sleeping sentinels both ships barely manage to escape back to Earth, Doom is forced to use a specially created suit of powered armour because of the damage he suffered aboard Phobos whilst the others who thought they escaped harm undergo surprising changes after returning to Earth hiding out at a secure compound belonging to Reed.

If this is returned to Marvels hands the gas released is the same used in Agents of Shield and the Fantastic Four and Doom are actually Inhumans who develop elemental powers as per their usual background.

Could have this event tie in to when the Kree turn up on Earth ending up killed by Hive & Daisy by making them pursue Doom and the FF but they lose track of them when they crash and it locks onto Hive since he literally sticks out as a colony of Inhumans after all!

Its not going to happen isn't it!

Speaking for myself, and I believe most comic-book fans, the only way a new FF film stands a chance if if Marvel's name is attached.

If Fox tries to make another FF film without Marvel involved in any way, nobody is even going to give it a chance.

"We want to make another Fantastic Four movie. We love that cast," he said, calling out all four of the actors in the critical and box office flop. "I love the comic, I mean I love it almost as much as X-Men. We'll try to be truer to the essence of Fantastic Four, which is largely distinct from the X-Men, which is brighter, funner, more optimistic in tone." - Simon Kinberg.

GET THE EFF AWAY FROM FANTASTIC FOUR FOX

I don't want Sue with any scientific background if she ends up back with Marvel. I've had enough of her being this type of thing in both the Story movies and Trank's film. I don't want her being vital to the crew at all or someone who seems almost an intellectual equal of Reed. I don't want her designing any rockets. I want her to even have trouble understanding certain concepts which Reed would say is not rocket science.

Make her an actress again like in the comics. I want her to be as different to Reed as they can possibly get.

And I don't want Doom aiding Reed or Sue.

Your treatment sounds like a third go round of the same old schtick from Fox.
