Both comics have been specifically mentioned as being influencial to the movie. Discuss.

discuss what?

Never read them myself. Any highlight from those that have read them..?

What elements from the books you'd like to see in the movie. Or wouldn't like to see (bald Hulk comes to mind)

ROTM is the beginning arc of Bruce Jones' run as writer of the Incredible Hulk comic. The Hulk has been accused of killing a small boy named Ricky Myers during a rampage. Bruce Banner goes on the run, going from town to town like David Banner from the TV show. He is even shown walking down the road with a duffel bag.

The Hulk is almost absent from the series, only showing up maybe once an issue. (The big complaint about Jones' run on TIH is the lack of the Hulk. I suspect the moviemakers will address this, as it was also a complaint of the first movie) The cloak-and-dagger elements of the storyline are more the focus than the Hulk, including the use of Banner's internet alias of "Mr. Green" and his mysterious benefactor "Mr. Blue." I think the Mr. Green/Mr.Blue would work well in the movie, especially as a device to bring
Betty
into the story.

There is also a "Mr. & Mrs. Smith-esque" man & woman bounter hunter team that keeps getting killed and resurrected somehow.

Im 99.9999999999% sure Hulk will NOT kill anyone in the movie.

They don't specifically say so in the ROTM trade paperback, but it seems Hulk has been set up, to be "wanted for a murder he didn't commit" like on the TV show.

I'm hoping the Ricky Myers thing is avoided in the movie, it's unnecessary to set up movie Banner as a fugitive in this manner.

agreed although no real ties to the first movie are apparent in this verzion starting out with him already a fugitive on the run is a good way to go.

I enjoyed Hulk Gray but was never a fan of the ROTM or any of the Bruce Jones stuff. If they are trying to go the way of the TV series I can see why it would appeal to them though.

I never fully got into the comics but am looking forward to the movie. I was just wondering if they had said yet what the Hulk's personality is going to be like in this next film? Is he going to speak at all or is he going to be more monstrous and kinda...caveman like if you know what I mean.

Well folks, seeing as Louis Leterrier has again mentioned Hulk:Gray as an influence, I thought I'd I'd bump this thread. For those that don't know, "Gray" was a miniseries by "Heroes" heavyweights Jeph Loeb & Tim Sale, a re-telling of Bruce Banner's first days as the Hulk.

Some things that could translate into film:

> The whole story is framed as a flashback, told by Banner to Doc Samson.

> Some interesting dialogue between the Rosses, suggesting there is more to the death of Betty's mom than has been revealed. Could Bruce and Betty have had similarly abusive father figures? It could explain their lifelong attraction...

> Hulk & the bunny. One of the saddest comic scenes ever. :csad:

> A character you may have heard of named Rick Jones is prominently featured.

> Oh yes, and there is that appearance by a certain armored Avenger...

I'd just be happy if we got the Grey Hulk in this movie as some sort of surprise in the middle or end of the movie.

While neither story arcs are anywhere near my favorite, in fact at least one is almost at the bottom of that list, Return of the Monster, they both can translate well to film. With the proper execution, either can make for an excellent 2 hour film.

Return of the Monster lacked excitement and dragged on too long. The climax was less than thrilling. It did however have a few good points. I liked the black opts that were after Banner/Hulk and the fact that they were after Hulk's blood, literally, trying to get a sample in order to create more Hulks . I did like agent Pratt, Sandra Verdugo and the idea of the shrill. I don't think that Banner's use of meditation was done and exploited properly although I loved the idea. I believe Hulk to be a creature born of Banners mind soul/spirit who is only driven by rage, not composed only of it, due to his screwed up child hood. They could have used the meditation to bring out a unique Banner Hulk relation or incarnation. What a waste.

Oh Hulk Gray was alright but not great.

Yeah, thats just f'ing awesome... :whatever:

There are probobly 30 other points of reference they could have gone with, and apparently they went with two influences that are the worst written books featuring the Hulk in the last 8 years.

The oddest thing about this new Hulk movie, is the fact they keep saying their using this Bruce Jones series and the TV Show as inspiration, when the Hulk barely appeared in either one. If that was the major gripe about Ang's movie, and the goal of this one is to add more action, these two references just seem like weird choices. Hulk:Gray on the otherhand was actually pretty good, but how they could incorporate a story that was told as a flashback in the comic is anyone's guess ...

good point. while i liked bruce jones run at the start, it got boring towards the end. have frustrating was it to go grab an issue each month, to not even see hluk once sometimes! i done buy hulk comics for banner. as for hulk grey, i loved that story. it showed a softer side of hulk. and he kicked iron mans ass which is always great!

He sure did, I always enjoy when the Hulk runs into other Marvel Heroes and shows them why he is the strongest one there is...
