Jennifer Morrison's and the whole opening sequence with George Kirk was so hilariously bad in acting. I'm glad it didn't last too long.

I saw it last night.

Now I'm a medicore Trek fan. I have watched all the TOS, Next Gen, all the movies. Have quite a few of them. But I'm no means a hard core fan. But I always admired them.

Last night what I saw was the best film I've seen since TDK, and more then that, its the best light hearted action/adventure movie I've seen since Raiders of the Lost Ark.

To me it kept everything Trek in it, but also blended it with Indy type adventure. The humor was to me never over the top, just perfect. I kinda sat there going "The Transformer guys wrote this?" I thought it was one of the most fun I've had at a theater in years and years. Every one in my theater was enjoying themselves and then some. I went with two Trek haters, and now they love Trek. Quite amazing really. On the low side I admit that they lack some of the philosophy that the others had, but to me all they need to do for the sequel is add a little of it, not too much, but a little.

Because IMO this new formula for Trek works. To me it is a great action/adventure with brains behind it. Truly a great movie.

I was not expecting this at all. But truly a great film. It's nice to have a non-depressing movie once in a while.

Great review man. I can't wait to see this at 7.

At first I did'nt think I was gonna like this movie as I was getting burnt out on the constant trailers of it.
I was pretty darned impressed with this movie from start too finish. It had very few lulls in the pace of the movie. It had a decent amount of comedy and from which most was not from Simon Pegg. The phrases used from earlier Star Trek movies were well placed and well used most of the time...CGI was top notch no noticable flaws in it at all and most of the acting was fine.
I had small issues with the story I thought it was okay, but a little skeptical of the 'time travel' aspect of it. I personally did'nt know any actors that were gonna be in the movie except zach as spock. I was a little taken back to see Karl Urben as McCoy and was a tad uncomfortable with him in that role, but he got better the more I saw him. I also thought Nero was Eric Bana but was'nt sure until I seen the movie and he did a fine job.
Zoe as Aura, she was smokin hot and well what can I say she was just plain hot. Simon Pegg did an okay job as Scotty, not great but okay. Cho and Yelchin did okay as their respecitve roles not great, but an okay. Zack and Pine did a fine job as Kirk and Spock they pulled it off pretty well.
Overall it was a good movie and I think its this years The Dark Knight in terms of blockbuster hits or it should be...

I saw it last night. There's not a whole lot I can say that's already been said, but I loved it. I got free tickets to see this in Imax so I may go tonight or tomorrow.

I think it's the best film I've seen since Dark Knight.

anyone else find winona ryder to be spocks mother a bit weird?...

thats like the strangest casting EVER!... she's not even old either lol.

i had no idea she was even in this til a saw the movie. But w/e i love her so it was cool to see her in anything now a days.

Well, she almost looks Vulcan herself, but between her and Ben Cross (who was also cool and pretty unspoken of in reviews) you and see where Spock looks come from. She was good, my GF didn't even make her initially till I told her who it was. I figure she was cast like Tyler Perry.

i loved , loved , ****ING LOVED this movie . i'm not that much of a star trek fan to be honest, but i may get into it a hell of a lot more now .

I've more to say, but for now I'll merely say the best complaiment I can give to this film is that it made a Trekkie out of me

I can't really give it less than 5/5. It took my expectations and ripped them to shreds

The only bad thing I can think of, is based on the success of this movie, and the way they ended the Heroes season, Quinto may give up television for a full time film career.

It's funny, I remember when this guy was a two bit part on 24 in Season 3. Now everyone knows who this guy is.

I found out today that he (Quinto) actually worked in my local coffee shop here in Galway, Ireland when he was younger

I was shocked to say the least

Damn. I didn't know this was soo good. JJ Abrams needs to direct a superhero movie like Pronto. His story and visual style seems to be amazing from all the reviews I've heard about Star Trek. I'll be seeing it tomorrow and hopefully put my review of it up.

All I can say is......

A M A Z I N G.

10 / 10. Way to go Abrams, you are a genius. :applaud

Well this non-Trekkie loved it. Nothing to say that hasn't been said already, but the ONLY Trek movie I'd seen before this was one of the Patrick Stewart ones my dad dragged me to, and it was pure torture for me. This was pure bliss. I particularly enjoyed the new Kirk and Spock. Pine's Kirk has that same roguish underdog quality that makes me love Indiana Jones so much (seeing him getting his a** kicked in every single fight was a major reason for this). And being a newbie, I certainly never expected Spock to be the emotional heart of this film but wow, my heart totally broke for him. So I'm glad he at least got the girl in this one. Quinto was wonderful. I'm now starting my way through the original series on Netflix. It's...interesting so far, but I do so enjoy the characters now.

There were a few plot contrivances that bugged me (it was written by the Transformers guys after all), but over all, I'd give it a 9/10.

And now I say for the 1st time ever, I seriously can't wait for the next Star Trek film. Especially with Damon Lindelof joining the writing team, the sequel's likely to be even better.

I've not been a fan of the series but I would watch sometimes out of curiousity. This film grabbed me , I was interested in all the characters , and even the cliche seemed cool.
I t was a good all around summer blockbuster and I can't wait for the sequel. I also loved to see how all the characters progressed ,especially Spock.

My only complaint would be The could of been more confrontation with the main villian but It made sense they had to get out of there quickly ... I would of liked to see another scene with Kirk's mother and showing her feeling about Kirk joining starfleet . If she would of been accepting or not.

It is definately a 10/10 for me though ,satisfying experience.

Would of liked to see it on IMAX but I saw it on Digital Screen so it looked fantastic.

Not much i can say that hasnt already been said.
Im not a Trekkie at all, ive watched Some of the 60s era when G4 played re runs but most of my childhood i watched TNG so im a lil bias to picard but i do have to say from what i seen from the 60s series The cast was spot on to thier counter parts. i gave it a 5/5 cuz it was that good to me. I dont see why thier are complaints over the score and Bones? The score was fantastic and Bones was so perfect it was uncanny. I also dont understand why everyone is complaing about Nero? this is an origins story and it was more focused on the crew moreso thier threat. My only Disappointment is that we didnt see a Nero/Spock fight :csad:. Also i love how they made it clear that this was an Alternate Reality cuz now it makes it so they can do whatever the hell they want with future sequels... i cant wait to see it again this time in IMAX

That's funny about the score. At my theatre they were selling the soundtrack at the concession stand and they came in before the showing to announce that and free posters.

I though bones was great ..also the line " are you out of your vulcan mind" ...

7/10 good but not great

An enjoyable film that delivers at times but at times does feel rushed. A lot of short cuts were utilized and that hurts the flavor of the film. Kirk goes from punk to prized cadet during the “three years later” unseen portion of the film. Also, he goes from cadet on academic suspension to Captain of the flag ship of the Federation in silly fast time. Nero is a lame villain with no real back-story. Also, injecting fake tension (giant CG monsters on ice world, Scotty blown through water tubes) felt tacked on and pointless. Almost as if the director was afraid to let the story tell itself and felt the need to keep the ADD crowd captivated. Quibbles aside, the cast nailed every single role and the movie flowed very well. As a bit of a Star Trek fan, I’m not sure how to feel about the alternate reality wipe out of established continuity. Still, a promising reboot and I’m on board for more adventures.

Just saw it.
Firstly, the entire cast did awesome work. They really captured the characters without the extra cheese. There was enough change to "fix" some of the characters and improve on pre-existing characterization. It was nice to see the crew really start to bond together...the next film we will see the crew's bond fully realized as apparent by the ending.

The movie is a thrill to look at, very visually artistic. Everything felt futuristic, but still "old". It had a very classic Trek feel in style and many of the core elements. I also really enjoyed the story. The beginning almost had me tearing up.

I would say this is the best Trek film to date....and easily the best film of the year so far. And one of the best sci-fi films in many years.

Abrams was able to capture all the best elements of classic Trek and remove the corny aspects to create a new Trek that I hope will continue for many years to come. I'd like to add that the theater actually clapped at the end of the film...I haven't seen that in a while for a movie!!

10/10.

I went in absolutely hating the Star Trek franchise and I came out seeing one of the coolest sci-fi movies I've ever seen :(

Same thing for me, except I've never hated "Star Trek". I just wasn't interested in it at all.

This movie may just propell Star Trek pass Star Wars in terms of popularity. Maybe not right away, but if subsequent ST movies do well and SW only has the prequels to fall back on, eventually it could happen.

I was never a Trekkie either, like I said in another thread. But this movie is phenominal. Well acted, written, directed, etc. Great job all around. I will see it again most definately and spread the word

Certain filmmakers should take notes watching a film like this. THIS is how you make a summer movie and bring a franchise back!
