I didn't like it.
It wasn't as bad as the last set of next generation movies.

The action scenes were boring, I assume they were trying to fill a quota list to keep people happy but I think if alot of these long, drab, seen a thousand times before CGI sequences were replaced by some good writing or character development, it would have been a better movie.

Everyone coming together seemed like a Christmas present list 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6 and Captain Kirks enlistment into Starfleek felt rushed and under developed.

The opening scene with the baby being born and the suicide run made me roll my eyes then feel anything emotional. The scene with Kirk in the Car as a kid shortly afterwards acting like a punk with Greenday or whatever rock music was playing to try drum it into our heads he was rebellious was pretty bad and felt extremely disconnected to the rest of the movie.

The new phasers suck balls. The scene in which we find out Spock and Uhura are having a romantic relationship felt sprung and without any emotional resonance. Spock just happening to be near were Kirk is while a monster attacking felt alittle convenient.

The bad guy, Nero has no character development, little screentime, he might as well be a spatula compared to something like the Dominion. The sad thing is, Eric Banna is a great actor, he is totally and utterly wasted.

I didn't like the fact it was Kirk who offered some form of humanity and not Spock, it should have been the other way around in my opinion, it would have been more effect.

I hope the sequel will be better but it just felt like alot of needed and forced Hollywood quota for about 2 hours.

man....i hated the show...so much...
i saw this movie thinking "ah crap...here we go"
came out saying "oh snap...i want a sequel"
this movie rocked 8.5/10

When you look up the definition of a summer movie in the dictionary, a picture of Star Trek should be there.

Seriously, what a ****ing movie. I can see myself seeing it 10 times and never getting bored.

Abrams nailed it and then some.

as a non-trekkie, even I have to say this movie was CRAZY GOOD!!

I can't say anything that hasn't already been said, but damn I can't believe how well the new crew worked together, even Bones (who I thought was the weakest member of the crew, but by no means a poor performance).

When the inevitable sequel comes, I don't want there to be a Khan. I never saw WoK, but to me that would feel like a cheapshot. Don't try to remake Khan, just give this Kirk someone just as tough to defeat

I saw it Friday and loved it...thought the actors nailed the characters, the visual effects were fantastic, and I loved all teh homages to the original series.

I don't see this film as a reboot, but more of a re-imagining of the Star Trek franchise the two biggest things that tell you that this wont be the Star Trek that you know
are the destruction of Vulcan and the death of George Kirk (in teh original series Kirk's father lives long enough to see James become captain of the Enterprise) so I don't mind the whole alternate time line thing.

And, that poor red shirt being killed on the away mission:applaud

I look forward to the sequels:applaud

The thing is it doesn't even have to be a remake of Khan. It could be a whole new re-imagining of a Khan prequel.

10/10 in all aspects.

I have to agree with this sentiment. As a non-fan of Star Trek going in, I must say that the movie completely knocked it outta the park!

I'm typically hesitant to call a film perfect but, this re-imagining of Star Trek is pretty damn close to a perfect summer film. It hit all the bases--action, humor, story, characterization and even a lil' horror.

Bravo...BRING ON THE SEQUEL!!!

:applaud

Saw the film last night and it was bloody brilliant. I dare say it was the perfect movie that was comprised of quality action, drama, romance, fx, suspense and well placed/timed humour. There's nothing pretentious about this film and simultaneously it doesn't underestimate the audience. The actors were brilliant and Karl Urban's Bones McCoy was just spot on....every one was spot on and excelled in their respective roles. Star Trek is the real movie to kick start the summer off. Great film. 9/10.

I loved this film. As a HUGE Star Wars fan (not just the films, but the EU and the comics), I had always been averse to Star Trek. But my anticipation for this actually got me watching some Trek, and there is some good stuff out there. And now I've finally seen the film, HOT DAMN.

I kind of feel like I'm cheating on my (Star Wars) boyfriend. I feel all dirty and bad, but also happy  lol.

Stuff that I really liked

-The whole opening sequence was bad ass-the part where the Starfleet Officer is [blackout]sucked out into space[/blackout]was eye popping.
-Chris Pine. He was awesome, nuff said. Can he be Hal Jordan now please?
-The [blackout]uhura/spock relationship was unexpected and really added some emotional depth [/blackout]
-The scene with [blackout]scotty in the pipes[/blackout]

The only thing that really bothered me about the film was Abrhams continued use of lens flare. It became fairly distracting by the end of the film. Other than that, Star Trek gets an A+ from me.

Can we get a few examples of movies you do like?

Why? So you can tell him he has bad taste? Let's not get into that. Everyone is entitled to their opinion.

Any how, with all the good word I'm hearing from people who are non-trek fans, I may have to check it out before dollar theater as originally planned.

Hey, let him have his opinion. My best friend, who is a big Trekkie himself, called me last night after he seen it to ramble on how he hated it, and how it ruined so much stuff, screwed up this and that, blah blah blah...

This movie isn't going to win over everyone, especially with this fanbase.

They need to be more open minded.

As long as it goes both ways. If the changes are so small that all it takes for a fan is an open mind to accept them, then all of the people who admittedly hated the previous Star Trek but loved this are closed minded, right?

No, but some people didn't like it because they took away the stagey "everyone sway left and right" style action, a new set of actors, and the props don't look as cheap. That's pretty silly.

Excellent movie. Hearing Pike's Kirk utter, "I don't believe in a no-win scenario" had me geeking out.

Ok, I have three questions before I decide to see it...

Does Kirk seduce a green or blue woman?

Is there a scene where the team consists of Kirk, Sulu, Spock, Scotty, and some random guy like Ensign Ricky who ends up dying only to have Kirk scream his name melo-dramatically?

Is there a ridiculously elaborate plan that is then described with a simple metaphor?

If the answer to all of these is yes, I will swollow my pride and see it ;)

(I'll actually see it anyway, because the word of mouth is just tremendous).

Yes. Green.

A redshirt does die.

There's an elaborate plan - don't remember if they use a metaphor though.

Seriously go see it. Its the best Star Trek film since Khan.

:lmao: That's awesome. If we can find a babysitter tonight we'll definitely check it out.

I am a treker and I support this movie

I was hardly a Star Trek fan, but this movie was pretty awesome and made a fan outta me. The whole cast was impressive but Pine, Quinto, Saldana, and Urban really stood out for me. Can't wait to see it a second time.

Its weird.

I wish the Star Wars prequels were this well acted and riveting.

Maybe someday when they reboot the prequels ;)

I really enjoyed the kobiashi(sp) test and showing that sequence it was really ode to the Star Trek movies it was nice to see that.

This is a film that will hold up to several viewing. In seen it the 2nd time yesterday and it was better the second time
