"I am DOOM! What MODS Dare Stand Against Me! - Part 2

It's not even a telling of the Fantastic Four. This is the basic problem.

But wait. This is Ultimate Fantastic Four. You know, the story in which Ben and Reed came from a farm-town where Ben was a skinny baseball player who was abused by his brothers until he was turned into a d***less creature that walked around naked while the others created containment suits and struggled with their powers from within a government facility run by a skinny guy in a suit named Harvey Elder while Victor Domashev was lost in the . . .

. . . oh, wait . . . :hmm

No...it doesn't. It doesn't make sense that this production has decided to change everything that people have enjoyed reading for over 50 years. If they wanted to make a brand new science fiction movie that has very little to do with the FF...then make a brand new science fiction movie that doesn't call itself the FF.

Chronicle 2 has been suggested/alluded to... even by those working on the movie.

It's one of the few things they've admitted.

I'm sure Trank will find a way to spin it soon. "I just meant it would be my second superhero movie starring MBJ. #Truth"

I somewhat understand your frustration with it because I get pretty peeved by what was done to the Nova Corp. However as a long time reader you have to be use to changes in character, look, and relationship dynamics. This group has been around for 50 years and changed a lot over that time due to various artist and writers on the books. This new group of people behind the camera and in front are essentially new writers and artist.

At least Xandar wasn't destroyed that time. I think if you want to see a real Nova movie you need the FF rights back so Marvel can adapt Annihilation.

I don't know about that because though you need Annihilus and his annihilation wave. The big hero in that comic was Richard Rider as Nova Prime. Nova Prime in the comics would of been able to take out most of Ronan's troops by him or herself.

Yes you need Annihilus which is tied up with the FF rights. And the Nova Corps can create powered centurions now that they have the power stone. Of course none of this can happen until they get the FF rights back.

Agree wholeheartedly.

The core concept of the Fantastic Four is that FOUR friends are changed by an accident that occurs during a space expedition. One Scientist, One Best Friend, One Girlfriend and One Kid Brother of said Girlfriend.

Taking Sue out of the expedition and substituting Victor -- the Arch-Rival -- is changing that core concept.

Look... in 50 years of stories you can easily pick and choose what items will work best for a feature film, and disregard those that don't. But core concepts should remain the same.

Superman -- scientist on doomed planet is able to save his son sending him off in a rocket to Earth where he's discovered and raised by a kind farmer and his wife. Kal El's initial arrival on Earth did NOT make Lex Luthor his arch-enemy.

Batman -- Young son of a wealthy Doctor is scarred by the tragedy of his parents being murdered by a burglar and dedicates his life to fighting crime. He did NOT meet the Joker while being raised in foster care.

Spider-Man -- gets powers when bitten by radioactive spider and thru his arrogance and inaction allows a burglar to escape custody, and later that burglar is responsible for the death of Uncle Ben. Norman Osborn was NOT the burglar who killed Uncle Ben.

There is a certain dynamic between Reed and Victor -- but the core of the character's rivalry is that Reed offers to aid Victor in his experiment but in his arrogance Victor ignores Reed and causes his own scarring accident that does NOT give him powers. Who does Victor Blame? Reed.
Meanwhile Reed's moment of arrogance leads to the accident that affects his closest friends by giving them life changing powers. Who does Reed Blame? Himself.

Putting Victor in with Reed during accident that gives the 4 their powers is bad enough -- as the accident can really only be the fault of one of those 2 people. Then you give Victor powers -- which was never part of the original Fantastic Four, though you could argue that Ultimate FF went that route. But now to remove Sue from the original incident? That's just stupid.

Change to simplify the story for the writer and directory is really just a shortcut for those not bright enough to adapt the original story into a satisfactory script.

Wait what? Sue is not in the accident? WTH?

Everyday is the same with this movie, everyday I get something new to be angry about :(

That's exactly it.

"Oh Doom is too complicated to do in this movie or tease for a sequel so we'll just do what the last movie did and include him in the accident so it's all wrapped up in a nice 1 hour and 36 minute movie!"

It's lazy stupidity at its finest. Or worst.

Yep. There's a quick scene of her sitting in a chair in front of a computer and there's an explosion that looks like how her powers look in front of her and she's knocked back.

It's ridiculous.

I can live with that to some extent. I loved in Superman TAS Brainiac as the kryptonian computer that doomed most of the kryptonians, and the Joker as the killer of Batman parents was ok... Doom getting powers in the incident is ridiculous, but I could be ok with him being involved in some way (as in the Heroes Reborn origin)

Mini rant
Off topic, but I despised the decision to make Joker the killer of Bruce's parents. It turns Batman's mission against crime into a typical revenge story, rather than the bigger picture of tackling the criminal underbelly, using a regular criminal. The Joker should be someone who challenges Batman's ethics as a polar opposite well into his career. It isn't a personal affair until The Joker makes it one by challenging Batman's moral limits.

On the main point, I agree that simplification of backstories are fine. Its just there are better ways to do about it. In Doom's case, this is old, and nothing new with regards to the films.

So Sue is not in the "event" but just happens to get powers along with the others?

Come on, people.

When they reappear in the lab after their escape from "Planet Zero" it causes an explosion that Sue gets caught in, thats how she gets her powers.

I'm just generally pretty confused about who goes to the negative zone and how many times. Doesn't matter, though, since I'll be seeing the movie soon.

According to Tobby Kebbrell while Doom is on the planet Zero he begins to understand the elements and turns science into sorcery.

Someone accidentally gave Kebbell a stack of FF comic books, and he's been trying to incorporate them into his movie character after-the-fact.

You mean Toby Kebbell, right?

From that brief snippet in the video, it comes out about the same as the idea that the futuristic science in Thor is perceived as magic.

But to be perfectly honest, his description of understanding elements gives me the impression it's not Victor Von Doom he's playing but rather it's Owen Reece, aka the Molecule Man.
