Ah the classic tactic of attacking the source material when you don't have a better alternative.

Saying he's always looked silly is attacking the source material?

It's not neccessarily a bad thing...its just always been inherent in his character.

Read the earlier comics...they play up his inherent over the top silliness in relation to his villainy.

He wasn't designed that way on accident.

He has the same look as Darth Vader more or less. Why is Doom "silly" and Vader not?

The justifications from some people here about why it's okay to **** with Doom as a character and not adapt him accurately is mind boggling. "He's silly" "He's dated". No. He's Marvel's greatest super villain. And Fox has never done him right. Let's stop defending his **** treatments alright?

Vader also looks pretty ridiculous. Ridiculous looking villains are often memorable ones. (Shrugs).

And I didn't say Doom IS silly. I said he generally LOOKS kind of silly.

I don't know if anyone else said "It's okay to mess around with Doom because X", but I certainly didn't. Show me where I've actually defended anything about this film's version of Doom.

A more comic-accurate portrayal of Doom would work in a European medieval castle setting. That would allow for the knight's armour, the tunic and even the gipsy sorcery.

But for some reason they - twice - haven't gone down that route in establishing the character in that setting. He ended up in his Laverian castle in FF:RoTSS but already had his look from the origin in the first film.

Eh...unless the guy is just kinda nutso, him hanging around, even in a castle, wearing what comic book Doom does would be a bit much.

What should be honored about the design of the comics version is the concept of his armor (hopefully functional), the idea that he masks himself, and that he has a sense of the regal. You can get away with a cloak and a hood just fine. The tunic and big belt he has been depicted in might be a bit much. Maybe underneath the cloak in some capacity.

I am glad this movie isn't going to get a sequel so we don't have to worry about how to take this environmentalist video game playing blogger character from this film that the filmmakers had the nerve to call Dr. Doom and try and make him into the comic book version of Dr. Doom. The foundation is not there for it.

Marvel Studios could basically throw Iron Man, Doctor Strange, and Loki in a blender to get Doom and it would be infinitely better than any other film version to date.

People need to get that 'too silly to translate' BS out of their heads. Marvel has proven time and time and time again that that isn't true.

Eh. Marvel has often adapted their characters and costumes just like any other studio, with an eye toward being a bit more grounded. Functionality seems to be at the forefront in a lot of their designs.

After how poorly Fox's attempts to "ground" Dr. Doom have worked out for them I'd be surprised if Marvel went too far away from the source material if they had their hands on the character.

If there's any good thing to take from this is the fallout from this film will be oh so enjoyable.

I actually think Dr. Doom's classic design would work just fine. Latveria being "medieval meets science-fiction" and all that. It's a stark juxtaposition that would produce some interesting visuals.

That and Dr. Doom is insane.

I never realized it until watching the first Story film two days ago, but McMahon's Doom had a sparkly silver shirt under his cloak. I always thought that was armor.

That reminds me. Where'd Doom get his green cape in this movie?
