I Am Number Four

I am just over half way through the book now and really enjoying it, for those who have seen the movie, is it close to the book or are there some changes?

i heard

the house fire scene doesn't involve the fire

and that scene in the trailer with the cop car, i dont remember from the book at all

The movie stays pretty true to the book. I will be honest, there are definitely some changes and some things are left out, but I don't think it hurts the storyline at all. Let me know if you think so too after seeing the movie!

I guess it depends on whats left out, as long as all the history of Lorien, etc is still in there, as thats pretty essential.

Hhhmm, yeah same here about the cop car scene, not sure what to make of the fire house scene though, wonder how else they will do it?

So I was on RT looking at the movies that are coming out this week. I remembered most of them Rango (looks great), Take Me Home Tonight, The Adjustment Bureau, the last one is Beastly that has Alex Pettyfer in it

and Im thinking I have not seen this film advertised at all. Ive seen the trailer online, but I see no web banners, no sponsored events, nothing.

With alot of people in Hollywood banking on Pettyfer being the next big thing they sure dropped the ball with Beastly. If it flops, along with the mix of a jerk attitude, a flop (Stormbreaker), a couple of disapointments (I am Number Four and basically every other film he did), and poor acting abilities I can see Pettyfer being a forgotten memory by this time next year

I think they shelfed that Beastly movie because I remember first seeing a trailer for it a LONG time ago.

It probably sucks. I mean, it has one of the Olsen twins playing a f**king witch. Give me a break.

No, they did... see here:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Beastly_(film)

It was supposed to come out last summer but then they moved it to this year, supposedly because they didn't want it to clash with Zac Efron's Charlie St. Cloud movie. That might be true... or they might have pushed it off because they knew it sucked and wanted to see it reworked a bit. But it's just strange that they moved it to a date where it has the potential to cut into the box office of movies that star its two leads (#4 and Sucker Punch).

YEah they pushed it back shelving a film implies they stop production on it

Well, I finished the book and really enjoyed it, so will try and watch the movie tomorrow, although its gone off pretty quickly here.

The book Beastly is based off of is actually pretty good. My only disappointment is how they made him look. In the book he looked sort of like the Beast did in the Disney animated version.

Well I saw this yesterday and actually enjoyed it for what it was, my only problem was had they followed the book a bit more it would have been much better:

Couldnt believe they virtually gave Bernie Kosar within the first 5 minutes, he had a great slow reveal in the book and it was just ruined here.

Also, why was Number 6 fireproof and not John, why change their powers? It just makes no sense, 6 could have still done her rescue act with John at the end with her powers in the book of controlling elements, why keep her invisability but give her John's power of being fireproof? It was just a pointless change that wasnt needed.

Also, why was Henri killed half-way through instead of in the final battle like in the book, he should have been there training John and it didnt even show one scene of him teaching John to control his abilities, like being fire-proof and his telekinesis.

Couldnt believe we didnt get any flashbacks to Lorien and the Mogadorians invasion of either, those parts were great in the book. Didnt like the 'power-up's they could give each other either and also thought the Mogadorians were really under-mined as a threat, in the book, it took all of John's efforts to kill one, and then he was practically out of the battle, here, he kills several no problem. Also with the Mog's, they were much more mysterious in the book and were hardly seen until the end, wish they would have kept it this way in the movie.

Overall I enjoyed the movie, especially the action at the end which was very well done but much less grand in scale than what we got in the book, but if they had just stayed a bit closer to the book this could have been a really good sci-fi movie/franchise, bit of a shame really, 7/10.

Yeah, well... I guess they were afraid that the traditional approach wouldn't resonate with modern teenage girl audiences, so they turned him into an Emo-Cenobite/Shinzon/Billy Corgan or something.

I hate it when you run into street witches that curse you.

Just saw this.
Eh the first hour was below average. Not terrible, just not very good. The villains were bad, the acting was pretty wooden or bad except from Timothy Olyphant, Jake Abel, and Callan McAuliffe. THen the characters themselves were pretty lame too. And then the love story was pretty stupid. I actually like a good love story but this one moved way too fast.

But the climax and basically everything after Number 6 showed was badass. I wish they couldve kept the action going longer. That basically bumped the movie from being a 3 to something higher

6/10

It was an okay adaption but I hate how they cut very important things and changed the WHOLE story of sam.

^Agreed, the book just told the story much better, and I felt they missed out too much from, especially to do with Number 4's father and the slow reveal of the Chimera.

I was suprised with the amount they kept in but this movie is barely at or under 2 hours and 15 more minutes to go ito detail about the Lorien race and flesh out Sam would have been awesome. Having Sam wear the glasses would have been nice, he in no way looked like i pictured him.

^Exactly, surely a bit more effort and time could have been made to show the end of Lorien and at least explain a bit more about their race, how the Mogadorian's defeated them with sheer numbers and beasts who were supposed to be a lot bigger than what we got in the movie.

Also they could have at least explained that they cant go back to Lorien because it is now uninhabitable. And I agree about Sam, I wish he would have gone into the woods with John and Sarah and that other girl like in the movie, it was weird the way he just followed them in.

Watched it earlier today, it was alright. The plot was ok save for some of the cliché stuff. I enjoyed mostly the last 30 minutes of the movie. Liked Olyphant and wish Palmer could appear more, Number 6 was totally badass, she and the Chimera. I'm a bit curious on the book now.

The movie was surprisingly good. The best thing about the movie? That the Thor trailer was playing in front of it. :awesome:

what things did they cut? i would love to see this movie come out as an extended edition. it had a lot of good potential and the longer it went on the more i got into it. it seemed corny from the beginning tho. glad it quickly seperated itself from the likes of percy jackson cuz that was the direction i thought it was going to go in. at first i thought the villains were stupid cuz of their playful nature, but they made sure the audience knew thats just how sadistic the main one is and that he is still very much a bad guy. i kno the 2nd book hasnt even come out yet but i hope they make a sequel

^They cut a lot from the book, in the book we get flashbacks to the day the Mogadorians destroyed Lorien, a lot of flashback's in fact, and there are stones in the book that they use which have various different uses.

The powers of Number 4 and Number 6 are different as well, in the book, its Number Four who is fireproof, not number 6, her main power was controlling the elements, which I cant fathom why they changed as the last scene with them on the football field would still have been possible. The Mogadorians were also A LOT harder to kill in the book, 4 kills 1 and then is basically out for the count, in the movie he killed quite a few. There were other changes as well that go deeper, Sam's story was a bit different, as was 4's reveal to Sarah. Its a shame they cut so much, but maybe there is a DC waiting for us.

I just checked this out today and I really enjoyed it. I didn't really know anything about it, hadn't read any of the books so I didn't have any prior expectations. There were a few moments where I though uh oh is this going to be another Twilight but thankfully that wasn't the case as half way through it was already 10x better.

I'm not sure how well this did, I don't think very well but I'd love to see some sequels.

An easy 8/10 for me

I guess since I didnt read the book first I have a different perspective. The movie wasnt that bad I'd give it a 7/10. I'd like to check the book out though. Also since I dont really know about the books does the story continue from where they left it?
