With recent announcement that Black Adam won't even be in Shazam even though they've lined up the friggin Rock to play him and now a Joker origin movie planned I feel like they just dashed my hopes that DC's movie division with its reworked executives set up might know what they're doing now.
If the Joker origin movie rumour is true it'll be conclusive proof to me, because that should never had made it passed the first suggestion. Maybe their worst movie concept yet.
I could go on but what do you all think?
Idk anything about the Black Adam deal, but I wasn't too excited one way or the other about that.
I actually think this is all a great idea and the right way to go. They can still have a cinematic universe, but it doesn't all have to connect and fit in with one another, and dilute the entire universe with way too much stuff going on. Just keep it confined to the JL extended film series, and then anything else, the creators have free reign to do what they want. Batman shows up in a Joker film, it can be s different interpretation, it doesn't have to be Affleck or JK Simmons as Gordon, or even pidgeonhole the director into having to make a film based around the Leto version
The DCEU films have their own tone and themes, but I wasn't too crazy about the idea of having to make a Lobo that fits into that world, for example.
This way, if we aren't happy with a certain incarnation of a character, we aren't stuck with it, somebody else could try a different interpretation. I think it creatively frees up everybody, and we can even get cool Elseworld stories. I would kill to see a live action Kingdom Come for example
The comics have been doing this for years, why not the films? They don't have to follow the Marvel formula and cram every single character and show into the same series
Edit: Kinda jumped the gun on my post after reading the OP, so apologies that this has nothing to do with the current conversation
