The Amazing Spider-Man I love Spider-Man but I hope this movie fails.

I have fireworks already set in place to be seen from everywhere in the nation when webhead731 ends up liking this movie.:woot:

ummmmm what happens if this movie is better? Lol dude quit ur crying. Ur gonna be there opening week. This is like casino royale and batman begins all over again.

Maybe.
As of right now I am not paying for it. If my friend can get me in for free, great. I'll only pay freaking $12 if it looks like it may be okay.

And I was really psyched for Casino Royale and Batman.

I notice you keep attempting to insult others in an attempt to discredit them. Why is that? Resorting to name calling does not a valid argument make.

Further, I’m not going to discuss the behind the scenes situations (ie: how quality isn't always determined by who is or is not involved) with you because at this point, you clearly can’t comprehend that you are not disagreeing by arguing with me – you’re practically screaming “I AGREE WITH YOU!!!” at this point without even realizing it. It’s clear your desire to argue is overshadowing your ability to understand what anyone is saying on that matter.

When did I EVER call you a “Raimi fan boy”? I don’t think I even uttered his name or even subtly suggested such a thing in my previous posts. Even if I did, I wouldn’t consider that an insult or attempt to discredit you because I enjoyed the Raimi films as well. I won’t argue that redoing the origin is stupid – I hated that idea when I first heard it. I still am less than thrilled about it – but seeing how they’re added so much extra material and story into the origin (ie: Oscorp and the mystery of his parents), I feel a little better, and am even intrigued by it.

As far as SM4 is concerned, you seem to be forgetting that Raimi and Tobey and Kirsten LEFT SM4. THEY QUIT. Because of that alone, Raimi’s films WERE DEAD. Would you REALLY want to see a continuation of Raimi’s films without the director or any of the lead actors returning? I know I wouldn’t; that’s just ASKING for a repeat of the 90’s Batman films. The ONLY logical thing to do would be to make an entirely new Spider-Man film; different director, different actors, different story, etc without risking the baggage of past movie franchises who swap out the leads.

You keep saying that Webb is not giving us anything new. And yet you ignore every facet of this movie that proves otherwise. The only thing that is being rehashed is the origin, but as I mentioned above, its proven that the origin is going to be wildly different, so it will be quite fresh and (hopefully) interesting. Everything else about the movie is something we have yet to see in Raimi’s trilogy (which I'm not damning them for lacking). The true romance of Peter and Gwen, a mystery concerning Peter’s parents, a more comic book accurate representation of Spider-Man. A less dorky and modern take on Peter. Curt Conners as The Lizard. A “young” Aunt May. Webshooters. The list goes on. If you still want to argue against the reboot, you really will need a new war cry, because Webb is most definitely giving us something new.

I’m still not getting your reasoning about hoping this movie will fail. Or perhaps it’s you who is not understanding your own desires, because your entire argument seems to be pretty hypocritical. I’m going to try and hit the bullet points of your argument, perhaps you can point to where I’m wrong, so that I can better understand you?

You say:

You’re tired of reboots.
Rebooting is lazy; they should just continue with what they have.
Despite Raimi, Tobey and Kirsten quitting, Raimi’s Spidey films should have continued.
The above, plus the critical failure of SM3 was not a good reason to reboot Spidey.
You hope ASM fails, because that is good enough reason for Marvel to reboot Spidey.

Is that pretty accurate?

Do you have a source where Dafoe said that? That’s the first time I (or anyone here, it seems) have heard this. Regardless, it’s a shame it wasn't used; I would have liked to have seen how much further they could have pushed that; though I did like the helmet, just not the rest of GG’s outfit.

Maybe you didnt say I was a raimi fanboy but its hard to keep track of who I'm speaking to because there are ALOT of posts directed at me and a lot of them have valid points I want to touch base on. I agree name calling is immature but I was just irritated. If you read a lot of the posts directed at me, even if its not directly stated most of them are condescending and it bothers me most people didnt even take the time to read my first post.

Anyway for my points. I do appreciate even if you disagree with me, that you took the time to try to understand what I am getting at. It seems like this whole thread has turned into an argument about Raimi vs. Webb and I will admit I am getting a bit off topic. Away...

You’re tired of reboots.
Yes.

Rebooting is lazy; they should just continue with what they have.
Yes, Spider-Man 3 wasnt great but it made money and it wasnt bad to the point where it couldnt have been saved.

Despite Raimi, Tobey and Kirsten quitting, Raimi’s Spidey films should have continued.
No but also yes. They shouldnt have forced them out in the first place but since they were gone they should have approached the reboot understanding there was just a majorly successful trilogy. We dont need to see the origin again, we just need to get on with the story. I feel like rehashing the origin is just the easy way out and kind of cheap overall. I do agree a younger Aunt May and the parents are different but Richard and Mary were never that important. Plus theres no Jonah Jameson or anyone from the Bugel.

The above, plus the critical failure of SM3 was not a good reason to reboot Spidey.
It wasnt a total failure, it could have easily been Spidey's temple of doom. It wasnt great but it could have been a lot a lot worse.

You hope ASM fails, because that is good enough reason for Marvel to reboot Spidey.
I hope it fails so maybe a message is sent about reboots and whoever makes the next reboot will be a little more careful to make sure it works.

Also on a side note. To the person who said I cant compare the Spider-Man 2 to the Amazing Spider-Man, why can't I? Thats like saying I can't compare Batman Forever with the Dark Knight. Theyre both about Spider-Man and they're both about Peter Parkers emotional struggles.

So to Anono Domini who pointed out I havent said anything bad about the Avengers. Just because I havent said anything, doesnt mean I dont have opinions on that. I'm skeptical that it will be able to combine the 4 franchises into one successfully, I also blame it for screwing up Iron Man 2. I like Captain America and Thors costume and I'm excited to see Tom Hindleson return as Loki but Im uncertain.

I'm sorry.
The movie looks incredible! :D

Is that what you wanted to hear?! :D

lol Sorry I am stating my honest opinion. I'm not going to lie.

Who knows? Maybe the trailer will look good.

You don't have to apologize for your opinion. Your opinion sucks...but you don't have to apologize for it. :woot:

At this point I don't care if the reboot fails. With an ugly costume design and a rushed and forced production (out of Raimi simply quitting), they don't deserve a success. They treated Raimi like crap and getting a ton of money from this would not be fair. I don't want to see this Spider-Man plastered all over walls and toys for the next decade. They need to change the look, because, I am sorry, the costume is a big deal. If it looks stupid it really hurts the movie no matter how you sugarcoat it. I see that and I just shake my head on how dumb it looks. Just like I do with the Batman nipple suit.

Aside from a pretty good cast, the rest of this is just unexciting. I also just can't stand they want to do it in 3D. Seems like everyone is doing that for the money only nowadays, and it comes off as cheesy. I sure hope they have Spider-Man shooting webs at the screen for no reason.
Like, it's not even the fact they're rebooting it. I didn't want a Hulk reboot really, but I warmed up to that because it was looking great and I ended up liking it. This? No. Sorry.
Yeah, all the supporters are going to bag on this post, but oh well. :o

I'll be bringing this post up when the movie turns out to be a major success

With so much Raimi love that you have, I can understand why you're not for the movie, but c'mon....it's not Webb's fault, it's not the cast and crew's fault....don't be hating on the movie just because of the studio. Hell, we should have been boycotting Nolan's Batman films with how Warner Brothers screwed up on Batman Forever and ESPECIALLY Batman & Robin, but we didn't.

You ended up liking the The Incredible Hulk eventhough you didn't want it. Maybe you'll end up liking TASM aswell, I mean who knows, right ?

Don't knock it till you try it.

Not knocking it completely. I mentioned there are good things in the past.

Thing is, with TIH it was actually looking good to me and I changed my mind pretty quickly.

Okay? I never said it wouldn't be a success. It may very well be.

I'm just saying they don't deserve it.

The movie deserves it as much as Batman Begins deserves it.

And you may not have said they deserve it, but it will still please me to rub the hate you have on it back to your face.

You have no right to hate on the film because of the studio. That's childish. As I said, we didn't have hatred over WB anymore with that they did with BF and B&R, because they gave us Batman Begins.

They'll still try to spin it as a failure, no matter what happens.

I once knew of a guy that posted at another forum I use to visit. He had a MAJOR issue with The Dark Knight, this guy just wanted the movie to fail in all possible ways. He was 100% certain that it would a be flop, critically and commercially. Well, we know how that turned out. Suffice to say...that guy was never heard from again.

LOL! So this guy has the power to decide who 'deserves' success or not.

Nolan took him out of the equation.

So if the film is a success, and for all the hard work the cast and crew put into this film, they still don't deserve it? jeez...

But the difference is that Batman Begins looked awesome.

To me and many others, this does not.
I'm not hating on the film simply because the studio. I am hating on it because just about everything I've seen looks bad. Sorry I can't change how I feel.

You can bring back whatever post you want. If I like it, great. If I don't, oh well.
Drop it.
