Infinity War "I Will Bathe The Starways In Your Blood!" The Thanos / Josh Brolin Thread - Part 1

My god. Thanos is such a compelling, nuanced character in this. Beautifully played by Brolin. He really steals the film.

I liked how he was smug without being smug. It's hard to explain until you actually see him.

He almost feels reluctant to be following through with his mission. He understands why the characters are fending him off and empathizes with them -- but isn't blinded by that empathy. He still maintains his sole focus of blinking out half of the universe.

Brolin captures all of this with his nuanced mo-cap performance. You can see the toll of his mission in his face and voice. He's such a highlight in this movie.

What I appreciated about Thanos was how respectful he was of his opponents. He appeared cruel when [BLACKOUT]torturing Nebula and goading Peter,[/BLACKOUT] but there was a purpose behind those behaviors. And he actually seemed sincere when showing empathy to [BLACKOUT]Wanda and the group on Titan[/BLACKOUT]. A terrific villain in what has become a
trend at Marvel Studios.

"I hope they remember you." It came off even more sincere in the film as opposed to the trailer.

You can't say Marvel doesn't take their criticism to heart. I mean look at how the villains have gotten progressively better over the past couple of years: Ego, Vulture, Hela, Killmonger and now Thanos. Even before that I thought Zemo was excellent. Kaecilius was a slight bump - he wasn't terrible in my mind but didn't break the mold either.

For me its interesting how in the trailer it almost comes off as a taunt, but now its more of a sincere hope.

He addressed Tony by his name. That's something.

His interaction with Wanda was intense. that sympathetic/emphatic pat on the head.

Hell in Nowhere when the Guardians confronted him, when he said "I like him" it felt legitimately like a Father approving of a child's significant other.

I really think the Academy REALLY needs to start looking at the acting performances in these comic movies. Because damn did Brolin put on a clinic and carried the film. ALL IN MO-CAP.

I feel privileged to live in a time when Thanos would go down in cinematic history as an all-time great villain. God bless the Russos/Markus/McFreely, they did Starlin's baby justice and save him from his generic modern comic portrayal.

Iron Man
making Thanos bleed that little speck of blood pissed me off a little.

Top billing means you get to do more damage. But is it any worse than Cap's?

Thor did the most damage by far, but still **** that
Thanos isn't ever supposed to bleed from Iron Man.

C'mon. Brolin's line reading after that was soooo worth it

Almost, but
"All that and not a single drop of blood" would've been even better.

Well that was Stark going all out. I thought it was great. He was throwing every thing at Thanos. All for a little drop of blood.

The Titan fight was so inventive.

I don’t think so. Sorry

I guess we just gotta agree to disagree.

Nah. Tony had more advanced Tech, and has routinely been shown to be a powerhouse in the films. It was fine.

Not to me it wasn't, but it's not a big deal it didn't ruin the film for me.

The whole thing seemed like a heavy burden that only he could carry. I was waiting for him to crack open a cold beer at the end lol

The Russo's said this before, but Thanos' arc really is the backbone of the film. He's arguably the main character, the one that all the others revolve around. And he gets possibly the biggest emotional beat in the movie. Well... second biggest.

That scene was literally Tony desperately throwing every single he's got in the suit at Thanos. It barely made a scratch on him. Barely

The great thing is that this is only the first half of Thanos' story. Cannot wait to see him again.
