You mean you want to see Thanos have actual base level super powers without the Gauntlet?
If so then I agree, I want to see some energy beams shot from his hands, energy absorbtion, and telepathy/telekinesis. I also would like to see some of Thanos's technology, like his force field and his special chair.

I'm not saying no to all this, but just that some of the glove's power would feel redundant, if he'd have all his powers like in the comics. He'd probably be able to pull off all of the above mentioned abilities, with the Power and Mind Stone alone. And he was already way overpowered without using a Stone. He beat Hulk's ass single-handedly.

He can have super powers and not be OP. Regardless of TK and blasts, stormbreaker can still kill him.
Thanos beating Hulk's ass singlehandidly is not overpowered.
If Hulk put up anymore of a fight it would have been a nerf. Thanos has trashed characters physically who would trash Hulk. Even in the strength department and specifically in the durability department, Thanos outclasses Hulk. Better strength feats in the 70s..and he has been upgraded two times since his arm look that destroyed a planet.
Of course, cant forget him no selling blasts from Silver Surfer, which KO'd Hulk..and then beat Surfer to near death in 6 punches.

I can't believe how much Thanos lived up to all of the years worth of hype (AND MORE). I want to see the movie again to make sure, but I am almost ready to say that he's my favorite comic book movie villain of all time.
I love how they updated the character from the comic books in this movie. He's essentially a calm, death-obsessed maniac with a messiah complex in this film. And it worked. It worked SO well.
I like Zemo too, he was a "underdog villain goes up against the big guys"-type deal that the MCU hasn't done yet. The main problem with him (apart from his plan) is that he was a villain in a movie that didn't need one, especially when Tony was already playing the antagonist role. Toomes/Vulture in Homecoming was a better execution of Zemo, IMO.
On topic, Thanos was amazing. Immense screen presence, physically threatening, intellectual, and still feels rather human in spite of being a CGI creation. He had great interactions with various characters, particularly Tony and Strange. He occasionally had a bit of dodgy CGI, but it's clear that they worked their hardest in conceptualizing Thanos on both the writing and CGI implementation. He left a pretty good impression when I saw him in Guardians 1 even when he ended up getting nothing but jokes about sitting in a space chair and losing Infinity Stones, but it's nice to see Thanos being fully realized as a strong villain, and easily the MCU's best villain overall.

Yep yep, I feel they made Thanos as power as they could without making him OP.
He's the baddest dude in the universe, it's okay for him to have energy blast, energy absorbtion, TP/TK, his super chair, and a force field. Like you said Stormbreaker is able to kill him, so that in itself keeps him from being completely unbeatable.
LOL. No, I was thinking they are pushing a Thanos story were the Titans went extinct because of over population and the subsequent self destruction of their own planet.
In many ways, that is what is happening on Earth. Over-population is a major issue now and will be even more going forward. The story will push this angle.
Thanos is right in wanting to save life but the means by which he wants to go about it are all wrong. Just as Killmonger was right but his actions were wrong, so is Thanos.
So, just saw the movie and yes, it looks like they tried to give Thanos a purpose that was not just crazy and evil. His actions were evil but I do think he believes he was doing something good.
The whole idea of sacrifice was well done in the film. Gamora asks to be sacrificed for the common good. Vision asks to be sacrificed for the common good. Thanos is making 50% of all the life in the universe to be sacrificed for the common good.

I love the petty, arrogant, emotionally stunted and unnecessarily cruel version of Thanos that is commonly seen in the comics. But we see a lot of those types of villains, and I'm glad the Russos and Brolin adjusted the character in the manner they did. I found the calm, emotionally mature and respectful version the Russos put onscreen to be an all time great.
He's so nerfed and his characteristics is altered quite a bit but that's perfectly fine. Do you prefer this version of reasonable, emotional bad guy or the cartoonish maniac in the comics who destroys half the universe just because he loves a girl ? The latter wouldn't work well for me tbh.
I thought Thanos was adapted fairly well. He's an absolute badass, but he also feels somewhat incomplete. I didnt really get any sense of any obsession with death, which is a defining aspect from the comics. Loving death could easily have been adapted in a metaphorical sense.
Here he just felt like killing was a means to an end. He didnt seem to have the reverence for death that he does in the comics at all, which was missed. There was maybe a hint at it with the way the Black Order referred to the deaths of their vanquished, but it came across as more of an ego thing for them and Thanos than a real reverence for their sacrifice.
I wish theyd gone a bit more into his insecurity as well. That was always compelling about Thanos in earlier stories. Didnt get much of that here.
I would have liked just a bit more, both about his origins, and his relationship with Gamora and Nebula. Not entire sequences, just bits of info here and there in existing scenes. Theres a sort of
I wish youd be proud to be my daughter moment on Titan
, but the conflict hinted at there is incomplete.
This is a sequence begging for the "I did my best" speech. For instance, there easily could have been the idea presented that he grew up in a culture where you basically had to compete to survive due to limited resources, and he knew nothing but survival of the fittest, and he was tough on Gamora because thats all he knew. That could have rolled over into the half of the population that survived being the fittest. Something. Anything to indicate he cared about her, or her experience. That scene felt half-baked.
Because instead, the film expects us to understand that shes his daughter so he loves her and thats just supposed to be powerful. He doesnt address the fact that hes clearly failed her in some capacity or why, its just not a very nuanced relationship that is presented, but its all supposed to have major emotional impact in a central moment later on. I just didnt feel the film earned that emotional beat.
I generally thought the character was undercooked in some ways. There are some decent ideas introduced, but they arent explored much. In terms of motivations, he kind of came across as a Bond villain.
There are limited resources so I have to kill a lot of people
hasnt been used in a while but its still a fairly generic motivation for a villain to have. And theres a major issue with the exploration of it in that its not explored.
Because thematically, aside from the fact that
He has a magic glove that can supposedly do anything, which makes his solution to the problem seem out of line
, this is a fairly weighty concept that is introduced, with all kinds of intersections with relevant themes in this franchise, but then theres no conversation about it within the film.
Unless I missed it, no one throughout the course of the film asks him
Have you tried like, anything else to correct the problems you're concerned about?
And therefore, the issue ends up being window dressing, a weak justification for slaughter, and ultimately the film makes no statement about the nature of limited resources, responsibility of power, the solutions too big for heroes to punch their way out of anything, really. That was disappointing.
