Infinity War "I Will Bathe The Starways In Your Blood!" The Thanos / Josh Brolin Thread - Part 1

He's in my top 3 villains of all time, above Joker and close to Darth Vader level.

After this I would honestly watch a 2 to 3 hour movie about Thanos's origins on Titan to him raising Gamora and the rest of his children as warriors. That stuff is definitely compelling enough to be it's own movie.

While watching the movie for the 2nd time, i notice that

Thanos was visibly hurt at the very last scene. He was limping and had trouble sitting down. So its doubt that the stormbreaker injured thanos badly (when he had all the infinity stones)

Hes a great villain but Joker and Magneto still ahead imo.

Yeah it almost killed him, at his most powerful too he had to retreat.

Which Magneto?

I like both young and old iterations of Magneto and theyre played almost equally well as each other so id consider them the same (and the fact they are meant to be the same person anyway).

But right now, Joker Magneto and Thanos make up my trinity as the best movie comic book supervillains by a distance.

I don't know how I keep forgetting Magneto, he's amazing but he does have the benefit of SEVERAL films compared to only one film for Thanos and Joker.

Thanos > Magneto in ANY film.

Agreed and that's saying a LOT as I rank Magneto very highly on my villains list.

Agreed. I think Magneto has been done wonderfully on film. But, Thanos is just another level.

What about The Joker ? Curious to know your opinion about him vs Hans Landa, Anton Chigurth, The Joker, Vader,...)

The Joker is a better performance and character overall. I think Thanos speaks to me more because I am a Marvel fan (though I like DC as well, Marvel for me is Coke and DC is Pepsi...like both but when I want a soda, I prefer Coke) and Thanos was always one of my favorite villains and they nailed him. But on the merit of the work on an unbiased film perspective, I would award the point to the Joker.

The fact that's even able to be discussed let's you know how much of their A-game both actors brought.

Magneto had 1 good movie and after that he’s had the same storyline in every movie.

I maybe in the minority.....but fox has sort of screwed up magneto in x men apocalypse.

I agree with that, but he was amazing in First Class and Days of Future Past. Apocalypse doesn't ruin those movies for me.

Disappointing villain. I expected a Darth Vader but got purple cartoony Homer Simpson.

Says King Thanos lol.

But that's fine, its all about opinions. I can just relate to Magnetos cause more than Thanos. If they actually gave some detail about Thanos' backstory in the movie, about how he was born a deviant and outcast by his home world, maybe I would have been more emphatic with his character. But the way Magnetos journey from Auschwitz to how hes formed his philosophy is more clearer and better expressed than Thanos in the movies albiet Magneto has had more than 1 movie.

He was great, but IDK quite where'd I'd rank him overall yet. I'll have to ponder that some more.

Thanos was so very well represented here, he was a menace and powerful with depth. Loki has finally been dethroned.

Magneto is an excellent villain in the way that Thanos tries to be - we can empathize with Magneto and understand his motivations for what he does. It's easy to see why he feels the way he feels and because of that his actions are justified. With Thanos, they tried to create that same level of motivation/determination in the history of Titan and what happened. however, with all the powers of the universe, couldnt he just as easily create new planets, new resources, new technology to allow populations to thrive without genocide? For Magneto, he didnt think humans would ever understand him or accept him, because he had seen first hand what being an outcast looked like.
