I don't know, I think it should be Captain America because he's been there right at the first phase, with Spidey only possibly joining at the start of Phase 3? But I won't be surprised if Spidey eventually became the face of Marvel Cinematic Universe.
For all we know Steve Rogers will get killed off when Chris Evans retires from the role... and Sam Wilson will become the new Captain America.

I think the first Marvel Spidey film may not be that successful at the box office, but if it restores the faith of fans and critics, the next one could be HUGE. That's our shot at getting a $1B gross for Spider-Man.

Yea, sort of like how batman begins and the first avenger had modest box office takings, but then their sequels took off big time

I can see the first marvel Spider-Man doing very well on RT

Iron Man, Cap, and Thor may very well be sitting Phase 4. It wouldn't surprise me in the slightest if he's the central character in Phase 4 if they lock him in for Phase 3 and build him up. Notice the suspicious amount of characters that would be introduced in Phase 3 that just so happened to have major roles in a title called New Avengers (Spidey potentially, Doctor Strange, Luke Cage, Iron Fist, and Jessica Jones definitely)...

This is something that has crossed my mind as well.

I think it's hard to recreate the success RDJ had. The guy has so much charisma, the acting chops, and he was a perfect fit for Tony Stark in general. It's rare for all of that to come together and deliver an iconic product onscreen.

Numerous times I have watched RDJ over the past few years and wondered if we'll ever get Spidey in the same limelight. While it's difficult to replicate that success, I think one of the things Spidey will have going for him is the added interest of being the new kid on the block. There will be vested interest in him just because he's an icon in general, but people will especially be focusing on him to see how he gets along with the other characters, given that the others already have a camaraderie between them.

With that being said, the opportunity to make Spidey the leader will definitely be there, that's for sure. However, they'll have to put him in situations that earns him that leadership - that's what makes the prospect of him being in the MCU even more exciting. Maybe he uses his powers in a way that the others can't, he puts his life on the line against an enemy, or something along the lines of that. Regardless, he'll certainly have to earn it.

Given that he's been Marvel's prized possession, I can see them making an effort to eventually make him the face of the MCU. It gets me excited just thinking about it.

Great post! All of this

I feel like we're better off getting spidey in phase 3 than having had him in the mix since phase 1

True. We will also appreciate it so much more when it finally happens!

I think what's special about Spidey is that he brings a whole new element to the notion of superhuman beings in the MCU.

He's neither of those:
- wealthy philanthropist
- super soldier experiment
- "miracle"/Inhuman
- magical being
- god

He just so happens to gain these extraordinary powers. How and why... that remains to be seen. Maybe in order to avoid repetition they should keep his origins a secret, up until some writer comes up with fresh idea that would still be sort of faithful to the comics. It's a difficult task tbh... we already had the genetic approach to his powers. The radioactive one might be too old fashioned.

spider man. Spider man is loved like no other super hero outside of maybe batman. Even though asm2 didn't do while if another superhero's had movies like sm3, asm1 and 2 they would be in a lot worse shape then asm2 706 million it made.

Spiderman ...... why? Cuz he's had different incarnations and is still loved. iron man has robert downey jr and thats pretty much the one reason he shot up in popularity. With spiderman he's been around for a long time and seeing him react with the MCU would bring the character back on top where he needs to be.

That to though. I think after sm3 and asm1 and 2 that it is going to take a good/great sm movie first to get people back same reason I don't know if star wars will make has much has people say after the prequles. But I think a second solo sm movie could make at least 1.5 billion if not more people just love spidy. Sm1-3 are all around a billion with inflation right now and that is with no 3d and with a smaller internation market.

Depends on when Spidey Joins, if he Joins in Phase 3, then Iron Man/Captain will still be top dogs. Phase 4? Then, I'm guessing its Spider-man.

When Spidey joins the MCU, he will most certainly replace Iron Man as the flagship character. Especially since Downey is on his way out after IW.

Right now I would say cap because of how cap 2 turned out and we don't know if we are going to get a iron man 4 or not and even if we do probly not any time soon. I think after cap 3 we would get the first solo sm movie before cap4 or something. Say this happens. We get cap 3 2016, sm 2017 and then cap 4 2019 and then a second solo sm movie in 2020 I think by the 2020 sm will be top dog.

If Iron Man's supremacy ends, Cap will be the top tier.

I'm sure I've read in numerous interviews that the Avengers will have a rolling roster. By the time Spidey is hopefully introduced the current big 3 will either be at or nearing the end of their runs. I believe Spidey will be the flagship character of the MCU. It'll take the Avengers and the MCU in a New direction.

We'll probably see him a couple of times before he gets his own film. They'll make us want one by showing us what they've done with him.

In a slow progression from small parts to eventually getting his own solo films, Spidey will once again be on top. He's had a rough go of it lately with lackluster films, mediocre video games, and a ridiculously bad animated show in USM, but even with all that, Spider-Man is still so popular. A proper representation on the big screen a few times in that slow progression should get rid of the dirty waste that is currently smearing his face and he'll reign supreme.

Before the Infinity Wars- Iron-Man.

Post Infinity Wars- Definitely Spider-Man.

RDJ deserves to go out on top, IMO. But as soon as he makes his exit, Spidey will take over.
