I'm Not Messing Around, I'm Doing Important Stuff in The Superhero Cinematic Civil War Thread - Part 61

I never saw Batman Forever in theaters and I really don't know why other than my attention being entirely on the Power Rangers movie which came out a couple weeks later. I wouldn't end up seeing it until it came out on video later that year but I had the Batman and Riddler McDonalds glasses, the comic adaptation, a couple of the action figures (Bruce to Batman, a Robin, Two-Face and The Riddler) and the Batmobile toy. I still have a soft spot for that blue light deco.

It's not the worst Batman movie nor is it the best but I do think that Val Kilmer is objectively the most underrated Batman. Somehow, even with Riddler and Two-Face chewing the scenery, Forever is very much Bruce's movie.

But is it the best Halloween superhero movie? :hmm

It really is a great scene, in a show with so many. I'm sure Corenswet will be great, but I'm not quite ready to move on.

And to be fair to Gunn, that scene is one of the benefits of the television format. It is a payoff to 7 episodes worth of build up, which is a lot more than Gunn has to work with in a movie.

Now, the follow up to a reveal, no I would not trust Gunn to handle that well.

EDIT: Also, sadly for FF fans, its looking like Naked Gun may have more juice than expected.

Not worried in the least. Projections for FF have been going up every update. Right now looking possibly at a 155+ OW. It's gonna do well

The is the kind of thing that should ONLY happen at the end of a Superman's run. That's why it works in S&L. I don't want to watch a whole series of movies (or show) with Clark Kent as a celebrity. Would actually hate that.

How about a group of civilians on a runaway monorail lifting him up like a Messiah? :o

And if it is The Authority, that not-really-a-sequel sequel to Superman is gonna have The Authority in it. Lines up too well with it being a passion project for Gunn and him currently writing something, etc etc etc.

I dunno, I think there is enough there for a good writer to work with, without going with the obvious celeb route. As a status quo for a long time, who knows.

Whatever it is, it's just not what I want to see from Superman at all, except as an ending.

Been collecting various DC graphic novel in the last 2 years (there are a lot of translated version being released here!)...and I must say despite my username, I think I've been very much in love now with DCU 😆 (Greg Rucka's WW, Geoff Johns' Aquaman, Geoff Johns' Green Lantern are my personal top 3 favorites)

And at the top of that, I also very much anticipating Superman more than F4 (i know, i know its blasphemy to say that as a true believer at heart, haha😅)

Planning to re-read Infinite Crisis, Superman Secret Origin, Up in the Sky, and All Star in the upcoming weeks before July 11th :legacy:

Speaking of Superman...
the 3 main seiyuu (voice actor) for Japanese dubbed are already set.

All three seiyuus are very well known for various roles in anime, the voice actor for Lex especially, and also the voice for Engineer are two of my favorite actors, so really curious to hear their voice performances:legacy:

(Also a fun fact: the voice actor for Lex is currently known playing as a Kamen Rider in the newest entry of the franchise, Kamen Rider Gavv)😄

That scene was just fantastic. But I also thought the interview after with Jenny Olsen and the meet up with Jimmy was handled with so much sincerety also and Hoechlin just sold every moment.

I agree it is benefit of the TV format, but these writers just handle the dramatic moments so so well.

Well I hope it's not some version of Superman & The Authority. Even Morrison couldn't make that work. :funny:

Yeah, I don’t know The Authority all that well, but it always seemed strange to me that he wanted to introduce a team that had two Superman and Batman pastiches while simultaneously introducing the characters they were loosely based on. You can obviously have Apollo and Midnighter there and take the time to really differentiate them from Supes and Bats but it just feels like a tall order. We have the Engineer in Superman and maybe that will lead to more appearances down the road but no need to rush any of that.
