Post Christmas Warner Bros is busy making release date changes for next year before it rings in and beyond. The most prolific move is that Matt Reeves’ The Batman sequel is heading from Oct. 2, 2026 to Oct. 1, 2027. Production isn’t scheduled to get started until late summer and with a VFX heavy sequel such as this one, a fall 2026 theatrical release is within reach.

Reeves’ The Batman was the first fire-breathing theatrical release for Warner Bros. post Covid after implementing a day-and-date release strategy on Max; the movie making $369.3M domestic, $772M WW. The feature spawned a Max series, The Penguin, the third-most-watched HBO or Max debut season around the world following The House of the Dragon and The Last of Us.

Now we know why the DCU Batman movie is postponed for a little bit lol

Man, I had a feeling that it was going to be moved but I thought it would be moved to March of 2027. :wall:

this is ridiculous at this point. not even to march? ANOTHER YEAR DELAY?

Well my friends, I guess you could say this movie releases………
when hell freezes over

This actually might force Gunn to combined the two universe 🤣 potentially changing the title. Let rumors flood gate open about the DCU.

I apologize if this is uncouth to speculate on, but I wonder if there's something going on in Reeves' personal life. I get that he's a slow writer, but something else is going on here.

In any case, five and a half years between movies is an enormous risk just from a general enthusiasm standpoint. You're already seeing some burnout with the hardcore fanbase. Are audiences going to be there for this by the time we get to 2027?

I'd also wager that this is a deathblow to the idea of a trilogy. Like there's no way now. :funny:

I know many here don’t wanna hear it but I’m telling you, one of the big things here has to be them waiting for the initial reception to the DCU before proceeding ahead

Still think it's possible the delay is to rework this into the DCU. Depending on the success of Superman. If it's a hit, they combine. If not, they just move forward with Batman being it's own thing and possibly spawn it's own universe.

Just waiting on all the sycophantic nerds acting like it’s no big deal for a sequel to take 5 and a half ****ing years. You guys have been in denial for a long time, maybe this delay will finally make you realize REEVES IS A SLOWPOKE. We need more Batman onscreen. Let other filmmakers work with Battinson or make progress on a recast for the Gunnverse. Either way- this 5.5 year wait between movies is unacceptable. Who knows how much longer audiences will even care about superhero movies?

So, currently untitled, sequel will be CGI heavy and a year delay, are they really going to merge with DCU?

This is ridiculous, I’m not even going to care by the time this stupid movie comes out. The Batman was considered boring and overly long by a lot of casual fans. This is anecdotal but casual non comic book fans in my personal life have talked way more positively about Penguin than they did The Batman. The world Reeves created is brilliant but this **** is taking too long. Won’t be surprised if this **** gets canceled.

Hmmm... this only makes sense if their goal is to merge both universes. Honestly I think it's something else.

Yep.
