I'm Reading Your Stuff: General News and Discussion Thread

Jeff Sneider says Reeves has completed the script and Robert Pattinson has read it. He also strongly hinted that Reeves has refused to show the script to Gunn and Safran.

Man, hate to say it, but when it's all said and done, I think The Batman 2 will be the last movie of Matt Reeves's universe. I think Matt Reeves will just be in a producer role for the DCU down the road. So much potential is wasted on what they could have done with this universe, which is basically being pushed to the side for the DCU. Maybe I am reading too much into it,but it seems like they're being dismissive of the success Matt Reeves's universe has brought to DC. Outside of The Batman and The Penguin series, there has been nothing but negativity and flops since The Batman came out. Maybe the Superman movie will do great.

Obviously, I love the Batman character, but I don't know if I'm going to support the DCU Batman stuff. I really don't like Andy Muschietti's style of directing from what I saw in The Flash. Maybe my tune will change when I see the finished product. I really disagree with two cinematic Batman at the same time, and that's another reason why I think The Batman 2 will be the last one to make room the DCU Batman. Sorry the rant lol
If The Batman 2 is Very Successful, Anything’s possible.

Jeff Sneider literally every time he brings up James Gunn:

I mean, Reeves has been saying publicly since September that he's "just finishing the script" which was 7 months ago now. If he's not done I would be surprised.

He's been talking with actors about the story as Pattinson and Serkis have confirmed that.

IMAX has confirmed a release. I'm sure Pattinson knows exactly when he's filming since he's an in demand actor and his schedule must be set months in advance.

None of us actually know what Reeves deal is with WB studios, but when he did sign, it was before Gunn and Safran took over and I recall his deal being announced by Andy and DeLuca.

It's entirely possible that Gunn and Safran haven't read the full script because it's not a requirement for a greenlight. All these things are dealt with contractually ahead of time and none of us will know the truth to any of this.

Sneider said Reeves refuses to take notes from Gunn and Safran. The film is not DCU and falls under the purview of Mike De Luca and Pam Abdy.

It would not surprise me if Gunn doesn’t have total veto power over Reeves (not the same thing as giving notes!) but that just objectively is not the situation at the studio as far as literally any information we have indicates.

Gunn: Yo, can I give notes?
Reeves: No
Gunn: I'm asking nicely dude, you know I'm contractually allowed to
Reeves: I'll just never finish the script! CAN'T GIVE NOTES ON SOMETHING YOU CAN'T READ

I’m in a bit of a “watched pot never boils” situation with this rn. We’re all going to be a lot happier if we put away this Schrödinger cat idea that this movie is simultaneously just one day away from a massive news drop, while also somehow being dead in the water.

Let the man work. Take a breath. And stop paying attention to those who advance their careers by working you into a frenzy.

He can't help himself. "There's friction behind the scenes about what to do with Batman" is, broadly, believable - sure, why not, sounds like it could be true. But that isn't juicy enough so he has to come up with some elaborate mean girl scenario. Are Reeves and Gunn gonna have a cat fight in the cafeteria next?

It’d be great to see little bit of a time jump, especially if Season 2 of Penguin doesn’t happen.

Thought it was already confirmed Part II starts within a week or so of Penguin's finale? Hence the excitement for another winter setting in Gotham.

Is it such a good idea that all three entries of this socalled Crime Saga all take place over the course of a single month? Seems like it might limit character progression and storytelling opportunities.

I've seen movies with magnificent character journeys that take place over a day or two, so no, I can't subscribe to that notion.

That said, there's nothing to say there won't be a time jump after Part 2, either.

Only time is gonna tell, truly, for the answer but as it currently stands

Catching Up with James Gunn and Peter Safran of DC Studios, Part II

"Safran continued. “His crime saga that he’s telling. The Batman trilogy,""

Not quite the horse's mouth, but from somebody who's probably seen into it or at the very least is in close contact with somebody else who's stared directly into it
This is the most direct source we've gotten regarding the current status and that was only a couple of weeks ago. Until we see a more direct source dispute it or update it, this is what we've got

Just because it's planned doesn't mean it'll materialize. Just look at the Authority, Swamp Thing and Waller.

Didn't dispute that. As I said, time is the only thing which is gonna give us the true answer. But if they pull the plug, there's not exactly gonna be a big delay in it being formally announced. As of this exact moment, we've still got a trilogy coming despite the current circumstances. That can absolutely change on a dime, but that is the current status

I just hope Reeves' treats Part Two as a standalone entry, like Nolan did with his films, in case a third entry doesn't happen. I'm not rooting against him (I love Cloverfield, Let Me In and Dawn), but in the current studio environment and Zazlav in charge, if the sequel underperforms it doesn't seem likely that we'll get any more. Especially if Reeves wants 200 million+ like the first one.
