I'm Reading Your Stuff: General News and Discussion Thread

Depends, it could pick up right after the penguin at the beginning but then there could be a significant time jump.

The length of time. Again, compared to industry averages (and ignoring the circumstances that have resulted in it taking 5 years to make a sequel).

I’m not sure this needs further explaining.
pretending that, mind you not a 5 but an almost 6 year gap is not insane, is crazy.
It was five years between Temple of Doom and the Last Crusade. It was 27 years between Return of the Jedi and Phantom Menace. There was 6 years between the Two Doctor Strange movies. 5 years between Ragnarok and Love and Thunder. 7 years between Endgame and Doomsday.

Your use of insane, which means shocking or outrageous, is incorrect. Especially as there was a literal work stoppage in the middle of this and we know there are issues happening in the creator's life. Oh, and a whole ass TV show.

The only comparable examples are Indiana Jones and Doctor Strange imo.

Return of the Jedi - end of a trilogy

Avengers - Age of Ultron - Infinity War - Endgame were all 3 years or less.

Thor - again, end of a trilogy

I’m well aware of the circumstances that led to the delays, as any board member who frequents this corner of the Hype would be.

The movie was delayed because of numerous (and unexpected) circumstances.

5 years is a long time between sequels.

Both of these things can be true. Both are observations.

Again, I’m not sitting here screaming for Reeves’ head or pounding my desk in anger because it has taken as long as it has. I’d rather he take whatever time he needs to take care of himself because I’m not a heartless b******.

But you continue your pointless vendetta against my comment! You’re doing the Lord’s work! :kingpin:

There's a wide gulf between "long time" and "insane" though. On no planet is a 5 year gap between sequels "insane." Especially when we know there are real reasons for it and even got a TV show in between. It's actually perfectly sane. The hyperbole in fandom in general has gotten beyond silly at this point.

Was the space between Indy and Strange sequels insane? How about between SPECTRE and No Time to Die?

If you acknowledge there are reasons for this, why call it insane? It's like FC said, there's a lot of hyperbole. It feels like there is an entitlement for a character that has had a constant presence on the big and small screen for over 3 decades.

Would I love for the movie to already be out? Yes. But what I want is Reeves story continued. I don't want content for the sake of content.

I like how I’ve basically said the same thing, but you’re still hung up on the word “insane”.

If it’ll help you all sleep at night, I’ll amend it to “5 years is an unfortunate amount of time, but given the circumstances and the movie’s small place in the grander fabric of life, it’s acceptable and not worth talking about any further.” :D

none of the movies you mentioned had entered development as soon as TB II in those gaps, and they weren't planned, this is just obtuse lol

Yeah. If some are okay with a 5 year gap - that's totally cool. I find myself less bothered by it. But the examples people have used to explain how normal it is, aren't really fair equivalents.

I still maintain that most people complaining are upset not necessarily because of the actual length of time and more to do with how many times it was delayed. It makes people feel duped. Nobody likes being over-promised.

It's a bit like a package delivery; if FedEx says a package will take 2 weeks but will deliver of the 19th - I'm not upset. Because at least I know it's gonna be awhile, from the jump.
But delivering on the 19th starts to tick me off when FedEx kept saying it'd be here on the 6th, then the 11th, then the 14th, and you get the point.

it's just getting rough out here.

Cinema Con in 1 hour. The Batman 2 news from James Gunn i hope.
I feel like any news about Batman would instantly steal the headlines coming out of CinemaCon for DC. Whereas they’ll want all the talk to be about Superman.

I’d be pleasantly surprised and I hope I’m wrong.

Especially when you use MCU characters as examples.

Characters like Dr. Strange and Thor appear in other films in between their own.

In particular, Thor undergoes crucial character development in both IW and Endgame, two films released within two years of Ragnarok. IW even picks up nearly exactly where Ragnarok left off.

I like to think I've gotten more patient over the years, and I'm certainly trying to be understanding of Reeves' personal circumstances. But a five-year wait is a lot for me, and I'd be lying if I said it didn't affect my enthusiasm a bit.

i am about 90% sure the timeline of this film shifted months ago, there is no way this is gonna pick up right after penguin.
The heiarchy of DC changed. :letsrock:

It's nearly a 6 year wait, honestly.

It's effected my enthusiasm a lot.

I kinda hope there's a time jump, at this point.

When did each of those movies go into development?
