I'm Reading Your Stuff: General News and Discussion Thread

Also, I feel like everyone's just conveniently forgetting that a good chunk (6-7 months or so) of the past 3 years had halted pretty much every big piece of TV, film, etc. due to the strikes.

We've had a lot of people say there is something wrong in Reeves personal life and that it's to the degree that nearly all of them have shown great sympathy. Are we really doing this?
what does that have to do with what i posted lol. script is not on page 1

getting reintroduced to this world and bruce with sofia and the fallout from the penguin before getting into the main story would rock

Grace Randolph hints that Matt Reeves is going through a medical emergency.

“It’s not what Chadwick Boseman went through but it’s pretty close”.

Grace Randolph is a ****ing burlap sack filled with lies, snake oil and vermin. She’s just doing guesswork based on the obvious implications from people.

For what it’s worth, VA said Reeves himself is medically fine as far as he knows. And he clearly knows the story.

Lol, I wonder how connected he is these days.

I've listened to a few of his podcasts and he's also under the impression that we may get another show before the sequel.
That would be a great surprise.

I think I just found out what it is. It’s not Reeves himself but someone close to him.

Film Twitter this week has been particularly depressing in how everyone is just parrotting how Mickey 17 is an expensive flop for Warner Bros.

Like , what the ****?

THAT'S what people wanna fixate on regarding a movie that's just been released??! Why has everyone become an exec? When did people start caring about how much a ****ing corporation has done on the opening weekend (outside of the industry)?

I need to take a break from even just looking at social media, I think.

This is the way.

Given that everyone complains about social media on various topics (although I suspect some to actually secretly enjoy ranting about easily avoidable scoopers), I'd like to thank fate that I didn't develop this addiction. :funny:

I only use Instagram for work, and so its algorithm has transformed it into something vastly different from what I see the app looking like on other people's phones... which is a nightmare.

I admit I've started looking at Reddit a bit though....
Now I have to make the choice of letting it worsen my misanthropy or bothering to try and shape it to my interests. :o

Film Twitter in a nutshell

- cinematography obsessed (ironically it's always the same 2 cinematographers)

- large budget means the film must be judged prematurely

- James Gunn is the boogeyman, is to blame for The Batman II taking so long, and his Superman movie isn't "mythical" enough to be taken serious. I'm getting soooo tired of that film being targeted by film twitter. We are at the point now where it's being accused of having no hook and is relying on having a cute dog to get people interested.

I'm so tired of that app and the people on it.

So true, but it's always been this way, even on these message boards. Now, social media has just amplified it with it being an echo chamber of people with the same opinions.

Honestly what precisely it is doesn't matter. It's something sad, maybe even tragic, which is enough of an issue in Matt Reeves' personal life that he'd prioritise it over writing the script. Until Matt himself confirms what it is, that's all that needs to be kept in mind. Maybe Matt gets the script done and we're full steam ahead before the end of the year, maybe it gets canned because Matt simply can't do it with whatever else he's dealing with

Doesn't change the simple fact that some things are more important than a Batman movie.

So long as WBD is willing to push the movie out to accommodate Reeves' personal issues, far be it for me to doompost too wildly. If WBD is comfortable with waiting, then I should be too. And despite my frustrations with the delay, I hope it's understood that I do genuinely empathize with whatever Reeves has going on in his life. There are more important things than movies.

With all of that said, part of me continues to wonder when it might be time to throw in the towel on this. The cast is getting older, they can't keep their schedules open forever. More and more, this movie is feeling like it's going to become a casualty of bad timing and circumstance. It sucks, but it happens.

Honestly I think the wise move that keeps everyone happy would be to work on a new TV show instead, or Penguin Season 2, which can fit in this interim. Use that TV show to bridge Battinson's story and allow him to have a much more overt presence to continue telling his story (doesn't have to be as Batman necessarily), while also pushing TB2 back if necessary (yes, yes, I know). Matt gets the time he needs to deal with what he needs to deal with along with rewrite the script to accomodate where the movie's story can fit in, we get more Battinson and the Reevesverse. Win win

I will say the cast getting older isn't as big of an issue as it used to be. As I keep saying, Robert Pattinson has maybe one new wrinkle since 2019, same with Zoe and nobody else's age particularly matters. If I can live with Gus Fring, Mike and Saul looking visibly a decade older than they did in Breaking Bad, I can live with this cast looking 5 years older.

If it films this coming winter, it’ll be fine. Another delay it probably won’t survive - but we’re a ways off from having any reason to think that’s coming.
