The Dark Knight In Heath We Trust: A Ledgerbration: The TDK Joker Appreciation Thread

I just want to say I'm so glad this thread was started in late 2007.

I'm really tired of people saying people only liked Ledger's performance because he passed away, and things of that nature. People were excited by the brief trailers that had been airing and no one seems to remember that.

I think Ledger's performance is good enough to defend itself. People didn't like it just because he had died. They liked it because it was awesome.

Now so many people going to see the movie might have an explanation in that. TDK was destined to be a legend. The movie is extremely good and a masterpiece of the genre, but Ledger's death was into the equation.

It was a fantastic performance by Heath. I judge a good performance on the basis that I have been fooled by the actor. I was fooled by Heath. His characterization of the Joker felt absolutely natural, which is a testiment to his talents. I could imagine this Joker guy truly existing in my world.

Well done, Heath Ledger, wherever you may be.

I came across this amazing fan art of Heath's Joker with a Nolanized version of Harley Quinn. Couldn't think of a more appropriate thread to put it in:

^:wow: Oh wow, that's amazing! I like how Batman is in the background with redeyes.

I never imagined Harley fitting in to this series, even with Joker. But that's still a great pic.

I don't know, if Ra's Al Ghul, a 600 year old immortal can be put into Nolan's movies (albeit stripped of all his most interesting elements), then Harley could work, too, IMO.

Ra's was a 600 years old mortal in BB?

But no, for me Harley has never been a convincing character. Ledger's Joker would have her neck broken in less than 2 minutes.

Lol, no I mean in the comics. One of Batman's most outrageous villains made it into a Nolan movie, so I think Harley could, too. Not that I think she will now that Ledger is gone.

LOL! Probably right actually.

I agree, unless she is anything like the Harley from Azzarello's Joker graphic novel.

It's not supposed "realism" that's the problem, it's more about characterization and tone.

Yeah, and that was changed in Begins, too. Ra's is an eco-terrorist in the comics who tries to preserve mother earth via very harsh methods. In Begins he was a warped crusader for justice.

IMO, Nolan hasn't really gotten any villain 100% correct, except for Two-Face....which was still begging for a bit more. But was pretty great from what we got out of it.

Correctness is all about perspective. These characters have gone through so many interpretations throughout the years, that it is really difficult (if at all possible) to really label what "correct" may be. The Joker of the 1960's is a far cry from the Joker of Arkham Asylum: A Serious House on Serious Earth. There is no definitive version of these characters - because there are constantly changing as new artists and writers are brought in, new storylines are explored, and so forth and so on. That's what's great about comic books. They are constantly changing. And we, as fans, get the pleasure of reading through their vast history and picking out our favorite story arcs and character interpretations.

To some people, Nolan may have gotten the villains 100% right. For others, 100% wrong.

Ahhhh, so you're saying it's all subjective and up to personal opinion?

Hehe.....

I'm pretty sure that was fan-made by someone on the Hype.

I concur. That's pretty darn awesome.
