The Dark Knight In Heath We Trust: A Ledgerbration: The TDK Joker Appreciation Thread

DDL in TWBB was better by a big margin imo his relationship with his son (who wasnt his son) alone was more layerd then anything Joker did in TDK.

Its also hard to compare a comic book villain in a comicbook film (which is what TDK is at the end of the day) to a more realistic and gritty film its why actors like Hopkins in SOTL is far more chilling a portrayal then Heath ledger in TDK.

Another example is I remember watching Don Cheadle in Devil with a blue dress th other day and you just sit there thinking "thats one crazy Sona***** i would hate to meet" mainly because i have heard of and can imagine guys out there who are just like Mouse who care absolutely nothing for anyone but himself and is just plain without empathy at times.
No.

Nathaniel, apparently you didn't get the amazing, legendary performance Heath Ledger offered the world in TDK and that's OK, to each their own, but this is a place to Ledgerbrate.

And the Joker was different?

In the context of the type of movie? yes i would say so TDK great as it was was a comic book movie about a guy who dresses as a Bat to fight crime no matter how good some of the acting was (and legder was good imo just slightly overated) it will always be seen as below a more realistic movie.

I LOVE joker please dont get me wrong, Joker is a great character but he is a fantasy construct while Mouse in Devil in a blue dress is a character in a more realistic movie and personally far more chilling because of it.

You would think this troll would learn his lesson, considering that one of the times he was banned (maybe even under his last alias?) was due to his trolling in this topic. Ah well, hopefully, history will repeat itself, and maybe it will be permanent this time.

Well um, yeah, since the Joker didn't have a real relationship with anybody in TDK. :oldrazz: He led Bats on and brainwashed Dent and mocked Gordon, and that was really the gist of the whole thing. The magic was how charismatic he was, despite his deadliness.

They're all tremendous performances that worked in their own way. Anything beyond that is personal preference.

No one is disputing some good performances, The Bat/Joker relationship was good if a bit one sided, but my point is DDL relationships and the acting in general in a more realistic movie will be seen by most as far more layered. the fact he seems to care for his son at times (when he goes deaf for eg) but reveals he used him as a tool for business in the movie is skillfully done as is the way he knocks heads with the young religous leader as he bargins with his father for the land, the father who is plainly a weak man is astounded by the sums offered but the son (who clearly despises his weak father) realises something is off when a stranger appears to offer good money for land that seems worthless, its wonderfully acted stuff.

Its personal preference on such debates for sure but i think any clear thinking film lover can realise TWBB is a far more layered and emotional movie then any comicbook offering yet seen.

Why do you call it trollin? the discussion turned to TWBB on the last page with a comparison to ledgers joker and i chimed in with my thoughts.

Is it the fact i think DDL is better in that movie then ledger qualify as trolling???

I dont get some of the thinking here no one is bashing ledger or Nolan here. and i have never lowered the debate to insults or anything like that.

So why the hate?.

Why, indeed. You were told to stay out of this topic, as I recall, and yet you keep coming back and looking for ways to subtly insult or downplay Ledger and his performance. There is a Michael Jackson thread on the celebrity forum that I read from time to time, and even though I think he was the world's greatest dancer, I don't think he was that great of a singer. Nevertheless, I keep my textual mouth shut out or respect both for him and, more importantly, his fans who post there. It's not my place to say negative things about him in what is pretty much a tribute topic. This seems to be a concept you do not understand. And, as a matter of fact, if you read the opening post of this thread, you're pretty much off topic when you do such things.

Whether certain roles are better than Ledger's in TDK is a matter of personal preference. Some might think J-Lo's performance in Gigli was better than Ledger's Joker. It doesn't matter. There are other places to discuss such things.

. Very well said.

I could cite a reason, but I'd simply be repeating myself, as well as the sentiments recently voiced by others. I've grown tired of cautioning you for continual behavior.

Goodbye, Damiean.

Thought I'd post this for fellow Heath fans. Poster for The Imaginarium of Dr. Parnassus got released:

And here's the trailer in HD from back in August, for the, oh, maybe 4 people who haven't seen it yet :woot::

US and Canada releases are 25 December 2009. UK release is 16 October 2009. Other European countries either get it this fall already or in January/February next year.

Other release dates.

French posters for The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus have been released by Metropolitan Films. One of them is of Heath:

I think I prefer him on the big blue poster from earlier but that's just me. :yay: On this one, due to the lighting, he looks almost unlike himself. Almost.

The others are of the rest of the cast, including Johnny Depp, Jude Law and Colin Farrell. The three posters:

Wow, I hadn't seen that trailer yet. That movie looks fantastic!

In an article released today at:

Terry Gilliam, speaking about Heath, is quoted as saying:

"He was still, in some sense, speeding from playing The Joker, which had liberated him in a way that he had never experienced before."

He went on: "He was always telling me 'I am doing things in scenes that I didn't know was inside me. I cannot believe it'."

At least the Joker role was satisfying to Heath before his death.

I think they changed his eyes in this poster, no? i think that's why it looks different. I dunno, i agree something just doesnt look right.

i think he looks a lot like Errol Flynn in that picture

Not just for the poster. It appears that Heath actually wore blue contact lenses for his role of Tony in this film. It does look odd, I agree. He looked so much better with his natural brown eye colour. I can't get used to the blue eyed look. :cwink:

'Dr Parnassus' had its UK premiere last week, in London. Terry Gilliam and Verne Troyer were in attendance. No sign of Johnny, and Jude Law was promoting a play in the US.

Good read. Glad to hear Heath felt a new "confidence"?, from playing The Joker.

^It's a shame that, except for TIODP, he was unable to put his newfound confidence into practice. Imagine all the great characters he would've played. :csad:

I just want to say I'm so glad this thread was started in late 2007.

I'm really tired of people saying people only liked Ledger's performance because he passed away, and things of that nature. People were excited by the brief trailers that had been airing and no one seems to remember that.

indeed. i am sick of it too. the performance is the performance. his death just made an already brilliant performance even more legendary.
