So they did aliens because it was set in the 50s? I get it.

I hope they kep it away from the 60s with tribes of hippies with blow guns spiked with LSD while he tracks the Golden Bong.

It's not the years it's the... what was I saying? *breaks into giggles* You hungry?

someone should please explain to me why there is so much hate over temple of doom? i love that effin movie
except the whole raft falling from the plane scene

Because it shows very violent and dark scenes like a heart being ripped out and set on fire, human sacrifice into a molten pit, child slave labor, and a terrifying cult leader were all quite unexpected in 83 after Raiders was such a lighthearted family adventure film. People hadn't seen much of Indy yet. Plus it also disfigured Indian and Hindu culture with some of its gross depictions.

I love Temple of Doom, I never get the hate either. To me it is just a notch below Raiders.

Yeah, the raft scene is a bit over the top, but every Indy movie has those moments. Overall, I just love the movie.

The Marcus thing is really my biggest annoyance in LC. In Raiders you certainly don't get the feeling that he's the kind of man who would have gotten lost in his own museum, given the fact that in Raiders he says "I'd go after it myself were I five years younger," referring to the ark.

The Marcus stuff bugged me, they turned him into this bumbling, slap stick character. Something that I did not get from Raiders.

Some of the stuff with the Sr Jones bothered me too. I never cared for the scene where he scares the birds on the beach, causing them to take out the plane.

Things like that just were ...

that airplane scene was hilarious. the sound Connery makes as he's scurrying the birds away with his umbrella :woot: he was just being smart and improvising since Indy ran out of bullets

but yeah, the Marcus being a bumbling goof i did not understand. in Raiders he came off as a calm, quiet, and smart person. but in Last Crusade he was the total opposite. i guess somewhere in between Raiders and Last Crusade he got hit with being a senile old man big time

let me say, i think KOTCS would have been better if they could have found a way to incorporate Salah

Rough couple of years for poor old Marcus :woot:

Had Temple of Doom come out in 2008 instead of Crystal Skull;

People would complain about the action sequences being too over-the-top.

They would say Short Round ruined the movie.

They would say Willie ruined the movie.

They would have complained about no Nazis.

Don't try and deny it.

I will deny it. Temple of Doom is the best Indy film and a lot better than that last one. So don't start draggin' Temple of Doom into that Nuclear Refrigerator with you.

:doom: :doom: :doom:

Do whatever you want. I'll just sit here with 4 Indiana Jones movies to enjoy.

Honestly, he's probably got a point. I mean, let's be honest, Willie is annoying as heck, and she doesn't hold a candle to Marion. I love Short Round, because I loved him as a kid, but if TOD came out today, in the age of the internet, you can bet people would be going off on how campy he was.

Give me Short Round over Mutt any day. I liked the little guy.

I liked Short Round too, but the reason most of us do is because we grew up with him. If TOD came out today, you can bet money people would be b*tching like crazy about it, in the internet age.

And honestly, I didn't mind Mutt. He wasn't a character I loved, but I didn't hate him either.

You probably have a point. I'm sure there would be complaints about Short Round.

I always assumed some of the fondness towards LC was partly a generational thing. Figured that might be the first Indy movie the younger generation saw in the theaters. I'm a little bit older and was lucky enough to have seen Raiders and Temple in the theaters.

I wish I could have seen the originals in theatres. That would have been great.

But yeah, I'm 21, and most of the kids in my generation like Short Round because, for the majority of our lives, that was the only kid in the Indy series, and he's the one you grew up with.

TOD really was an odd mix in terms of the Jones series. You have some of the darkest moments in the original trilogy, and at the same time, you have some of the campiest.

Ain't that the goddamn truth. We had nearly 30 years of Short Round to be exposed to and grow up with him. If the movie came out 2 years ago you can bet your ass people would complain about him.

I've liked both Willie and Short Round the most since I first saw TOD. I would have complained about Mac more because he bumbled around.

But think if TOD were made with the same technology used for KOTCS and you throw in Short Round and Willie. That would have influenced the hate even more. Becuause when something's bad, something ele is worse because of it.

Willie still gets on my nerves at times, as good looking as she was. Short Rround slightly annoyed me the first time but now I've grown to love him.

Agreed 100%

When one aspect of a film turns out bad, people start to say the whole thing was horrible. KOTCS had some pretty great Indy moments. The motorcycle/car fight was classic Indy, as well as the crazy jungle guys who kept jumping in and out of the ruins.

It's similar to how people are treating the Spider-man movies now. Before SM3 came out, I remember getting flamed to holy heaven for voicing some of the displeasures I had with Spider-man 2. After SM3, suddenly there a lot more people who have issues with it, and some even saying it's a bad film.

I actually enjoyed KotCS for the most part. I can look past some of the godawful parts, and the fridge thing didn't bother me. It was over the top but I wasn't sitting in the theatre thinking, **** that!.

As someone who was around in 1984, the reaction to Temple of Doom then was pretty much on par with Kingdom of the Crystal Skull now. A big disappointment with an annoying kid sidekick, a useless female love interest and an over the top cheesy supernatural event.

Time does heal all wounds.

Yea I enjoyed indy 4 too minus just a few things I would have changed.removed.

Me too. I guess people forgot that Indy movies were never supposed to be realistic in the first place.:o

My only gripes with KotCS is Mutt's hair and ILM dropping the ball with the jungle chase with the Russians.

I was around when TOD came out too, and to be honest, I really don't remember that type of backlash. The one thing I do recall was a lot of concern over the violence, for the time (i.e. Pulling the heart out). That was the biggest concern, that this film was a little less than family friendly.

You could very well be right, though. You definitely have a different view of things when looking back on a fond childhood memory.
