Interstellar - Part 5

The Guardian says 175 minutes.

Interstellar, the Oscar-tipped latest offering from Christopher Nolan, looks set to be the British film-maker’s longest movie yet, with a running time of almost three hours.
A listing on a cinema website in Australia, where the much-hyped science fiction epic is due to open on 6 November, suggests the film will run for 175 minutes. That would make it a full 10 minutes longer than the final instalment in Nolan’s Batman trilogy, The Dark Knight Rises, which ran to 165 minutes in 2012 and was up until now the director’s longest film.

This movie's runtime is like the universe itself...constantly expanding. :oldrazz:

Heh, if THAT'S the case then once the screen fades black when seeing it in IMAX, there would be no end credits as 170 minutes is the MAX limit in IMAX. Pun intended...:p

What's confusing me is I thought the limiit was 165 minutes, which is the total runtime including credits of TDKR.

It's weird how there's a few conflicting reports about the runtime. But it seems like we can safely assume it's a close to 3 hour movie. They can also speed up the credits if need be.

I think Avatar's Extended Cut release was the exception as that was 171 minutes.

God, yes!

More review.

I had the luck of attending a screening of "Interstellar".

I don't work in the business, but the LA people can probably piece together what my profession is and what theatre I attended. Heard there will be some more screenings to come and heard talk about NY screenings.

I'll say this:

Jurassic Park, Titanic, Return of the King, The Dark Knight. Interstellar will be a cinematic event on the scale of those movies. This is a movie that both the critics and public will rave about. Nolan pushes every right button and the result is gonna be not only box-office success but a serious run for the Oscar. Interstellar will be the movie to beat this year and I can say that with 100% confidence. It's a movie for young and old, male and female. It's the closest I've seen a sci-fi flick being to pure Oscar-material and I never thought Nolan would win an Oscar but now everything is pointing to that. The hype and whispering that goes around right now in the business has reached The Dark Knight-level and it came from nowhere.

The film is Nolan's best since Memento and it is not even close. Really can't go into much details but it is non-chronological and the biggest changes from the script are apparently the structure and scenes in space (haven't read the original, heard from others). It's a lot more twisted than what Nolan has said in the press but at the same time it is quite an easy narrative.

Two scenes got big gasps at my screening. One is a smash-cut (it's not what you think, it's as un-Kubrick as you can get and yet absolutely perfect within the context) and the other is a surprise cameo which was my favorite part of the entire movie. I'm betting 90% of the public doesn't even know he's in the movie.

Oh my lord... 175 minutes?!?. No drinks for me on the day of the screening then. There is nothing worse than desperately needing the bathroom during a movie.

My hype. It hurts.

Lol, and so will my bladder.

I need to steer clear of this thread.

Hype levels reaching unhealthy heights.

I for one love how long Nolan's movies are becoming. So much awesome content and he and Lee Smith keep the pace so sharp, smooth, and rapid that the films don't feel as long as they are. I can't wait.

The Hype Level Rises

I can't wait for his next film.

Interception
240 mins long

That quote is the third or fourth time I've seen someone mention the "smash cut". Seems to be a memorable moment for many.
