Interstellar - Part 6

Well, Cooper even asks "then what?" in one of the new TV spots.

It's best to just wait and see the movie before deciding if the plot makes sense. The Empire article also revealed that the mission was being planned for 20 years in the movie.

The movie is also set somewhat in the future, but no specific year.

The theory about being able to travel exponential distances of spacetime through wormholes is a very popular one in the world of astrophysics though. This will still be one of the most science-based sci-fi films in a long time.

New banner (and new trailer will debut online this Wednesday).

the logistics make no sense, you find a habitable planet (God knows how with our current technology) so what then? you have to yourself travel back, and then select very very few people to travel to this new planet again (with some unknown type of traveling, and in a ship with very limited size for transportation), and then re establish a new colony.

The problem is that if that's the plan then humanity has the capacity to travel to remote systems and has access to incredible sources of fuel and flight capabilities. So how the flying hell are we in the border of extinction with such power? why wasn't this plan put in motion a long time ago? you don't build this things in one day, the technology had to exist for a few years at least, even in a cruder way. Did they have to wait when all was lost to display this insanely advanced technology? It makes no sense, maybe there is a reason in the story but from the trailers and the spots that seem the mission , to re colonize other worlds. No wonder we at the edge of extinction with such plans in motion.

And that's..why you have to watch the darn movie to find out.

I dont think its a very distant future, at least the tech on earth doesnt seem advanced at all, including fossil fuel vehicles, unless its a mad max scenario and all has gone backwards seriously.

Planning for a mission for 20 years also its a bit too much considering the circumstances, I know its nothing easy at all but 20 years? humanity could have been destroyed by that time. I don't know for the urgency of the matter things seems to go really really slow.

And if your pilot asks "then what?" after 20 years of planning then i dont know what the hell have you been doing all that time. There seems to be some seriously advanced technology in display so why hasnt been used before or how it isnt used for all humanity i guess we will have to see the whole story, i sure hope there is a reason.

Well of course, i don't expect to tell us the whole movie before seeing it, unlike other directors. I just curious of how will they explain those reasons, will there be other begins in this movie? Seeing Nolan tackling aliens, that would be worth seeing

THIS WAS WRITTEN BEFORE YOUR RESPONSE: Again, you're jumping the gun and assuming a lot without knowing the details. Hell, nobody can answer your question because nobody here has seen the movie. I see that as a total fallacy.

Well thats the fun of speculating, im just basing my statements in the trailers and the tv spots, nothing else. I read statements of people who said that they seen the movie, they were pretty positive so i guess they will explain a lot or the movie is so enjoyable that those details wont matter

Looking at the banners, posters, empire pictures etc etc how much of the actual movie do people think will be set on this ice planet? Cause everything seems centered around it.

Also it seems whoever posted all this stuff was legit. Possible BIG spoilers

Alright so here is what I know. A lot of it is stuff we already thought but I can confirm a few things.

1) The footage from the trailer(s) is from the first 3rd of the movie. They are playing it pretty safe with the meat of the footage.

2) Chastain and Affleck are the grown children on MM.

3) MM is not the first person to take this trip. A few other's have gone. Matt Damon being one of them and also Anne Hathaway's husband in the movie. They have not been heard from.

4) Matt Damon's ship is damaged and MM runs into him on another planet. He has been there a while and is apparently out of his mind. He tries to kill MM and take his ship. During the skirmish, MD damages the device that maintains gravity in the ship and the scene that follows is apparently the inception hallway scene on a gross amount of steroids.

5) The ships are not futuristic looking. They are made from scrap material essentially.

6) They film on several different "Planets". They use practical effects for planets such as Iceland etc. We should expect nothing less from Nolan.

7) There are also different dimensions and time warp. Not sure how that is going to come into play but I can only imagine it's going to be awesome. Damon is in another dimension in what seemed to be the future.

8) The space ship has a robot that travels with them and is essentially a exposition device to explain some of the story.

9)MM apparently lands on a planet with a shallow ocean. Just a few feet deep. When he steps out of the ship, he sees water and what looks like mountains in the distance. Come to find out, the mountains are actually an enormous tsunami wave heading right for him. I want to see this badly.

There was stuff that I was told by this person that even they had trouble describing because it was so incredible. They saw this stuff with their own eyes and couldn't comprehend what it was. They also said that the amount of security on set is insane.

Take it for what it's worth. Very very trusted source.

You know how in iron man 2 it takes 30 minutes to come up with a new technology?

That's not real life.

Robots?

I was hoping he'd resist someof the sci-fi tropes. Ah well.

How is it a sci fi trope? It's a robot. Robots exist and are used today. It's hardly like they are a cliche.

That might the first time I've heard someone scoff at the notion of a robot in a sci-fi movie, haha.

The way the robots actually work in this movie seems really cool and different though.

It's a space program that likely had to include technology that had not yet even be invented. It would take years to plan and then to create whatever is needed as well as tests and more planning it's not a huge jump to think this could indeed take years. Especially as if this is set in the real world nothing quite like this would have been done before
at least not successfully
.

Also MM's character has quite clearly been left out of the dark as to what the actual plan is. Also the human rae cant exactly be in too much of a dire situation if (and largeish spoilers here)
they are talking about 1 year to them being 10 earth years or whatever, they arent talking like it's been 10 years at home and everyone is dead. Also the rumour is that Chastain is MM's daughter so the Earth is still carrying on

Robots being in a sci-fi movie are all of a sudden a bad thing now? :funny:

I think the most exciting thing about this movie at the moment for me is that we're going to see the effects of relativity in action, and explore the inherent emotional, maybe even heartbreaking side of that.

Nolan first played with relativity through the conceit of dream layers, but just taking that idea and applying it to a space voyage...it just makes too much sense. And the weight of it will be even greater knowing that the time is actually passing in Earth reality, not just in a dream.

Sounds believable. Not entirely surprised that [BLACKOUT]the chinese robots have been cut.[/BLACKOUT]

I'm disappointed; Nolan should've skipped overused sci-fi tropes like space and science. :P

Looks great. Anne should be the lead in a superhero film based off this little flight GIF!
