Interstellar - Part 7

Didn't Faraci love Inception? I think his bitterness towards Nolan only applies to his Batman movies.

I have The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford on my top American movies of the 2000's list. It's in the top ten, actually.

76% Tomatometer; 66% Cream of the Crop

68 on Metacritic

Jesse James was an amazing movie. Definitely criminally underrated.

Even when he likes one of Nolan's movies his critiques always spin back around to Nolan's EVIL fans. It's been four years since Inception. He's officially in dissenter mode now.

EDIT: He initially gave The Dark Knight a positive review but he allowed the reaction to Edelstein's review to influence his opinion.

Yeah, I've noticed the growing phenomenon - especially at IMDB, the cesspool of the internet - that people hate Nolan because they hate his fans, not because they hate Nolan. Most of them have no legitimate reason to not like his films. I find this incredible. What kind of psychological problem causes something like that? lol

Hunger Games plus Big Hero 6 are both a big challenge for Interstellar, especially when you compare it with Inception's free run through the summer of 2010.

free runs are the winning ticket these days.

Faraci annoys me in general, but I don't believe he's biased here, either.

Imagine if the internet had been around during Spielbergo's heyday.

Faraci is in my same category of El Maybe and Jett. It's the category of "Oh, They Still Have Access to Keyboards?"

He's a big time troll. A few months back he slagged anime on Twitter and spent the rest of the evening responding (snarkily) to pissed off fans.

I'm no anime connoisseur, but I found myself getting angry reading his responses. He was definitely getting a kick out of it. There's something about passionate fanbases that he.... hates.

He did and I believe he was looking forward to Interstellar as well.

That's what I thought so too.

I can't disagree with this. :funny:

It's really sad. If I let fandoms affect my opinion on an actor/director, I would be HATING a lot of actors/directors/films right now. :funny: People really need to separate the two. I'm all for making fun of a fanbase but that shouldn't cloud one's judgement of the actual actor/director/film.

Faraci is a biased *****e but I largely agree with his view of Nolan's Batman films and I thought Inception was a masterpiece. He was actually looking forward to Interstellar so I believe his reaction is sincere. That doesn't mean that I'm not going to like the film more than him but I don't believe that he is trolling with this particular review.

I do hate a large portion of the Nolan fanbase but that doesn't affect my view of his films.

I wouldn't be so sure yet man, you guys are drawing a lot of conclusions from 30 reviews...

Maybe this is the movie masses love and embrace, even if it divides critics. Maybe it taps into the zeitgeist in ways we don't yet know. The reaction from the industry and academy voters was overwhelmingly positive.

Im not drawing this conclusion from the reviews. Im drawing this conclusion from the competition. There are a handful of serious oscar bait films that it will have to compete against. I just dont see this film winning even if it managed a 100% at Rotten Tomatoes, Metacritic, and an A+ with audiences. Maybe in a dead year like 2000 it would have won, but not this year.

Why must we talk about Pagliacci here? Can we not talk about that disgusting man here?

That's a great movie with excellent acting and some of the best cinematography I've ever seen.

I didn't think Interstellar was going to win two months ago and I still don't. Maybe I'll be wrong but I don't think I will be.

Snobby French reviews are in:

Just kidding, they're all absolute raves, Europeans are losing their *****:

Some of these are using google translate

We saw the film "Interstellar" by Christopher Nolan with Matthew McConaughey.. and it keeps all its promises

Christopher Nolan directs his 2001, A Space Odyssey. Glory be to him!

And if Christopher Nolan is the new Stanley Kubrick?

. Extremely simple and grand. Kubrick? Spielbergien? Kaufmanien? Zemeckisien? No, nothing like that. Difficult to imagine a more Nolanian than this film.

Less refined than Gravity, less playful than Guardians of the Galaxy, Interstellar is no exception to the norm of the Major American story. But the double temptation, marshmallow or philosophical (Nolan has always taken for Kubrick) does not alter the pure pleasure "escapist" in this ultra-spectacular épopé

French raves??? Has Nolan finally won over cinephiles?? :wow: :cwink:

In all seriousness, are any of those critics on RT?

That's a great movie with excellent acting and some of the best cinematography I've ever seen.
Roger Deakins is a genius. It's a bloody crime that he's still waiting for an Oscar.

Interstellar proves to be far probably the most beautiful tribute to the late Grand Master Kubrick cinema and at the same time suggests a self- conscious change of direction for Christopher Nolan

you can also see why very immense and inspiring adventure is probably exactly the right film at the right time .

Intelligent and exciting , Interstellar sets the need for mindless Hollywood products to expire. Nolan transformed the secrets of the universe in a cinematic playground , Profound and visually arresting moments are thought provoking

"Glory be to him!"

Lol what is this? The second coming?

Seriously tho Im surprised that the French critics are publicly praising it.

European reviews are probably more of an objective measure, they're probably not as embroiled in the anti/pro Nolan bull****.

I don't think they treated his past movies kindly though, especially Inception, I'm so surprised
