Interstellar - Part 7

Ledger executed that whole scene so well, now that I think about it there are numerous funny moments.

-Line about the suit not being cheap, "You oughtta know...you bought it".
-Line about not getting a nickel for Gambol's grandma.
-"Didja balls drop off?"
-Pencil trick.
-"Let's not blow...this out of proportion".
-"Here's my card..."

Unequivocally funny stuff, maybe not over the top but certainly as funny as anything else out there.

I've found Ledger's performance one I can watch over and over again without getting tired of. There's just so much stuff he does in every single scene. He puts an incredible level of detail into his performance that's far beyond what a majority of actors do. He's never just there, delivering lines. He's always doing like 5 different things at once.

Which is funny, because I used to think Ledger was kind of this dull, bland pretty boy until Brokeback Mountain. Maybe he just didn't get a chance to sink himself into a role until BBM and TDK.

Event Horizon is not anywhere near a good movie to me. I've watched it multiple times to give it a chance and still don't see a good movie. With some serious rewrites and a good director it could have been a good film.
Event Horizon is just too messed up for me.
I saw the movie once, years ago. I remember very little about it - except that I thought it was bad.
I admit, It's not good but it is still creepy. :o

Paul W.S Anderson is a hack who isn't a smart enough director to pull off a film like Event Horizon.

It's really a fantastic performance, a reel of all his scenes in TDK is basically a multi-layered comedy skit. Like you say, with a lot of detail.

My roommate tends to be easily confused by movies and he followed Inception just fine.

I have only seen the movie once but it confused the crap out of me. I don't understand the movie at all and I found it kind of boring. I think it may be a movie you have to see twice to really understand it.

And can't forget the part where Joker starts spazzing out to mock the henchman that got electrocuted, then spits on him. :funny:

I love that part. The first time I saw the movie I couldn't stop laughing at that. I also like when he is driving the truck and is like I love this job or something like that.

I went to see TDK a few times in the theater. One time, the audience was quiet with no discernible reaction (don't know if they weren't into it, or just a subdued audience), but another time you could tell the audience was loving every second of Ledger.

I remember watching the scene with Joker and the Mob bosses meeting and I my reaction was slightly off-putting; finally seeing Heath really cut loose as the Joker. It took me a few seconds to take it all in because he was so damn creepy, yet darkly funny at the same time. Such a great moment seeing that movie back in summer '08.

I'm actually watching TDK right now and a moment that always makes me chuckle is during the chase when Joker is climbing into the cab of the big rig and he's saying "Harvey Havey Dent...Excuse meee I wanna driver." And he pushes the dead driver out of the truck and all you hear is his body go THUMP as he hits the ground.

Haha the truck scene from start to finish is great. After it crashes and he stumbles out and let's his gun off is also hilarious.

Ledger just walks weird as The Joker. I like how he comes flopping out of the semi like a fish, tries to get up, falls over and shoots his gun into the ground, then does this weird little writhing thing to get up and starts blasting away at random cars.

There's just something freakish about the very way he moves.

I remember even taking note of how creepy his movement was even when I first saw the TDK prologue.

"No no no no, I kill the bussss driver..."

His mannerisms sold the performance. Tilting his head, licking the corners of his mouth, walking stiffly, having that kind of creepy slouch, deadpan eyes.

The creepy head tilt and the way he sidles sideways before the bus crashes through.

He put an incredible amount of work into that role. Maybe the most dedicated CBM performance ever. No "picking up a paycheck" about it, he worked just as hard on that role as he did on Ennis in Brokeback Mountain, which some people would argue was a more "serious", "deeper" role. And maybe it was, but Heath I think took both equally seriously, and that's admirable.

I remember how everyone was going crazy about Ledgers performance when they released the first clip online with him during the scene where they burnt the money.

''Tell your men they work for me now''

"Let's cut you up into little pieces and feed ya to ya pooches. See how loyal a hungry dog really is. It's not about moneyyy. It's about sending a message. Everything burns."

Yeah I remember that clip and my excitement went up even more if that was even possible at that point.

Did the TDK boards die? Is this the new TDK discussions thread?

Nah we just got to discussing Nolan's ability to do humor because a reviewer said his films lacked humor and the discussion led to the Joker and TDK's humor. We can go back to discussing the nit picky reviews and pessimism if you'd like.:p

This thread is exactly about Interstellar? And where are the moders?

Anybody seeing the movie in IMAX Tuesday night? 8 PM showing for me. Just curious to see if I'll be one of the first on the Hype to post my thoughts or if there'll be several of us that night.

I definitely plan on keeping everything 100% spoiler free and just giving general impressions.

I won't be seeing it till Friday evening.

I wont be seeing it until a week after it opens. :')
