Iron Fist Iron Fist General Discussion Thread - Part 1

He was already established for decades as a martial artist. Spider-Man fought Firelord in one of his issues, but that was only a long time after he fought other street level villains. He didn't start out fighting cosmic foes.

It's like finally having the technology to make a proper Hulk film, and having him fight corrupt sheriffs, bar room bullies and angry truckers from the 70s TV series.

When people see a Hulk film, they expect to see him fight other powerful opponents and to smash. When you watch an Iron Fist TV series, you expect him to fight other martial artists because you want to see who has the better skill. You don't want to see him fight scientists and technicians.

I do wonder which supporting guys we will end up with and of course who be next cast.

He did it in the first issue of the Brubaker/Fraction run, and people were fine with it then. :o

That wasn't so much of a fight as it was the ridiculous @$$whoopin' of biblical proportions tossed out by Danny, Luke, Misty, and Colleen. I mean seriously, in the comics Hydra, Aim, and The Hand are synonymous with 'endless punching bags to make the heroes seem more capable'.

I mean look at The Hand. Supposedly one of (if not THE) pre-eminent groups of assassins on the face of the earth. Mowed down like so much chaff.

I'm really hoping Daredevil turns them into something more capable. Then, utilize the war between the Chaste and the Hand, and the demons the Hand worships - and you've got a plentiful army of grunt to be knocked down like dominoes.

You could tie K'un-Lun into this, depending on what route they take for the city's origin. Maybe Shou-Lau is an ancient enemy of The Beast, or The Chaste was formed by people who had been trained in K'un-Lun...who knows.

But I have to say...give us something OTHER than Hydra.

Well Luke is invulnerable for the most part and Iron Fist is arguably the greatest martial artist in the Marvel universe, and that's minus his chi powers. It isn't saying much if your being mowed down by those kind of guys. In fact I'd rank the Hand above the League of Shadows in terms of capability.

And I don't think we are getting Hydra. That's an AoS thing now. I suspect AIM will become an AoS arc as well. We'll have enemies like the Hand and Steel Serpent making appearances. Steel Serpent was already hinted at in Daredevil. Madame Gao could very likely make her next appearance in Iron Fist.

No more Hydra. They've been done to death.

Agreed. I'm bored of Hydra. I think they should relegate them to Agent's Of Shield for a while and focus on over groups on the other films and TV shows.

Agent Carter is features a forties incarnation of the Secret Empire.

Madama Gao allied herself with Nobu (the Hand) in Daredevil, so we should expect more link between all of these group.

what if they are henchmen ?

what if they are henchmen ?

Why can't the henchmen be other martial artists?

Have you seen all these Bruce Lee films? Eg Enter the Dragon? The henchmen in the background who serve as cannon fodder are not scientists or technicians but people who try to fight him using martial arts as well.

If Iron Fist is fighting non-martial artists, especially just AIM or Hydra, it puts this back in the territory of crappy early martial arts movies from the 70s and 80s made by Hollywood which weren't part of the Hong Kong film industry. These often had their own brand of white martial artists who tried to compete with the Chinese ones, and often ended up fighting these random thugs who were obviously no match because they didn't know any martial arts themselves.

What if Hydra is replaced with The Ten Rings? We know that they're still out there and honestly they make more sense for the organization that Xao belongs to. I'd also make Mandarin Shang Chi's dad.

IMO, the series needs to go like this.

Season 1: Harold Meachum and Chaka Khan (Colleen Wing introduced)

Season 2: Steel Serpent and Crane Mother (Orson Randall and Shang Chi introduced)

Season 3: Xao (other Immortal Weapons introduced)

Save Khan for Defenders.

Agreed, even on AoS Hydra is played out. I think if there aren't any major evil groups in Iron Fist lore (which while I doubt even though I'm not that knowledgeable on hi rogue gallery) I'd rather the writers pick up some relatively unknown group and have some creative fun with it than use Hydra again. Connected universe is nice and all but beating a dead horse is still beating a dead horse.

I was really hoping the Ten Rings would so up more in AoS, I wouldn't mind it in Iron Fist though. While I really enjoyed Iron Man 3 and what they did, the Ten Rings were just so underused, I wished they would have at least a meaningful connection with the first movie. But the "All Hail the King" short is a great entryway to make them a threat for the television series, so the movies can keep introducing new things and the television series can explore some of those in depth and in new light.

But I have a feeling they want Iron Fist to stand on it's own without borrowing too much with the pre-existing MCU.

They could replace Hydra with a group called the Dead Horses. :o :bdh:

And Zhou Cheng could also make a great boogeyman, like Zoom in the flash,in a season 3 or 4.

I too def want to see more of the hand. More of aim and other villain groups be used in the mcu. Sucks hydra pretty much been the only big baddies around.

I predict they aren't going to use Chaka Khan. It will probably be Meachum as the main villain for the first season. Basically he will be like Iron Fist's own Wilson Fisk.

They also need a physical threat, I wonder who they will choose.
Maybe Meachum will be strong in this, or they will develop the Ninja more.

Maybe they'll make Chaka Khan into a woman whose real name is Yvette Marie Stevens.

Or maybe they'll just refer to the villain as Chaka.

Meachum is a nobody. It would be a waste to make him the nemesis in a television show that may or may not ever get a second season.

As I said in another thread; Davos. Have Meachum as a stepping stone villian.

Davos tends to make the most sense. I would want him to stick around for more than a season assuming this gets a second season. He is Iron Fist's signature villain.

Yeah, but then I think many of us expected Bullseye would be in Daredevil season 2 as well.

There's still the argument/theory that he was in season 1. That said... what if they're keeping people like Bullseye, Davos, etc, for the Defenders series?
