It's a Bird, It's a Plane, It's the Superman Costume Thread! - Part 1

Having finally seen the Comic Con footage, I think the suit will look phenomenal on film. I understand that people have affection for the Reeves look, but when I look at Cavill in this suit, I see Superman. I see a Superman that fits in this age.

I don't understand why you call it the Reeves/Reeve (whichever you meant) look, when it's really just the classic Superman look in general.

i dont like the MOS suit because the red/blue is unequally balanced... if it were balanced, yes i would like it a lot more. with that saying, there are a lot of great things about the suit... but the lack of red bothers me too much. i'm completely open to a new interpretation, but i would like to see color balance as well.

You're saying you wanted this?

of course that's not what i want... out of all the possible manips of that suit, why do some people have to pick out the worst ones? is it sarcasm?

Not at all. That was the closest I found to what you mentioned.

It's 2012. There will be no spandex/cotton. Time to accept that.

Even witht he colors muted its a vast improvement over the returns suit

That's because the SR-suit had the opposite colors muted, which looks like ****. I'm sure it had some sort of emo-symbolism.

Nevermind the colors, that suit's proportion of elements was completely mishandled. It had booty shorts for pete's sake.

Yes. The briefs were so low riding on the hips that they looked like booty shorts with a belt.

Ok, that's what I thought. They're a bit stumpy yeah, but I totally prefer them to Donner's diaper. And every other live-action version really.

You've got to be kidding me, really?

There is no way I can get past how effeminate looking the SR shorts are and much rather prefer Reeve's Hane's mens's wear.

No kidding. I could never get past how they looked like old man's diapers.

Each to his own, I guess. I'm in touch with my feminine side. :oldrazz:

They are a tricky thing to pull off in live action, I mean in a way that doesn't make them so obviously look like one or the other. However, in this day and age im sure it could be done. And I always thought Snyder could be the one director to make it happen. But they went another way. And made an awesome suit which I now love as much as I would a slightly more classical styled one (no designs or texture, trunks) im sure. :yay:

They ARE hard to pull off, but yeah, Snyder probably could've done it post-Watchmen with his no-nonsense classic approach to certain elements.

The classic suit. One day, man...

Can I just put this out there: we all do realize that trunks or not... what Superman wears completely defies logic and is all in all very silly, yes?

I sincerely think that the trunks could have been left on and it wouldn't have made a difference to the general public if the movie itself ends up being as awesome as it seems it's going to be. His suit just is what it is, and it is silly. I think that it's the comic fan crowd mostly that seems to have the biggest issue with his look. The only way to completely eliminate the silliness factor and give the same air of legitimacy as say batman's suit is to completely replace it with something else.

From an earthly perspective, sure. But I cant really argue against alien dresscodes and as such the design could be anything. But of course, it still has to look cool.
Kryptonians probably think our clothes look like something we shot and pulled out of a tree.

I also believe they could've just adapted the suit as it was design-wise, but still used the same materials they used for MOS. Slapping the trunks on to the MOS as it is would probably clash with the ornament-thing, so where'd that leave us?

People know how Superman looks basically. Didnt prevent them from watching SR. That movie wasted its opportunity though.

But whatever... MOS is shaping up to be great, and the suit will probably fit that mythology, classic or not.
