I don't think you can trade anyone over until after you beat the Elite 4

That's a rather about-turn from the likes of Team Galaxy. I'm interested. The new Pokemon don't really bother me so as long as I can trade in my Platinum version guys. I might pick it up end of the month. White or Black I wonder...?

I've heard there's some post-game teaser that's storyline related as well.

White has an exclusive area called White Forest, and Black has Black City. I've heard White Forest was a let down from many on /vp/. So I plan on getting Black for that reason and for the fact that we finally get a Dragon/Fire type combo.

From what I've heard, and seen on youtube, both are letdowns. Black is just a little square city where you can fight a handfull of higher level trainers, and buy some nice items. White is just a little forest area where you can catch older Pokemon and get the same items you can buy in Black City by finding them on the ground daily. So in black city you pay for the items but can get them whenever you want, and in White forest they're free but only a few or so a day. You also have to link up with other ppl to make both of them get bigger. They also balance eachother out in Pokemon as well. In White forest you can actually catch a Jigglypuff let's say, in Black City you'll encounter a Wigglytough so you can trade for one over GTS.

Tho I do like the idea of not only different Pokemon, but different areas to make the games different enough if you purchase both, it seems like the actual implementation was a bit of a let down this time. Then again this is just a first step, by the time gen 6 shows up on the 3DS we'll probably see a much better version of this.

I flipped a coin and heads was Black so I got Black. didn't really research at all

Mine just boiled down to wanting Solosis and Braviary (who I could probably have gotten from someone in this thread), and wanting to face Iris as the last gym leader as her face is more recognizable to me from the anime promotions. That's pretty much it, beforehand I was even more wanting Black and made a last minute change of mind.

Also, just ran into my first shiny this generation :). Caught a pink haired Deerling with a quick ball.

As I didn't know any of the Pokemon, version exclusives meant very little to me. Back when Red and Blue came out it was a big deal though

Since I'm always looking to grind my Pokemon to max levels, I think Black sounds more promising. I'll get it by the end of the month.

Which ability do you guys think serves Sandile better? Intimidate or Moxie?

I prefer moxie, it makes him an absolute monster in-game. Not sure how it does in the competitive scene, though.

Both seem pretty good. I guess I'll just use whatever the Sandile I get with the right Nature has.

I think both are great, tho I'm starting to lean more towards intimidate. I chose Moxie on mine just to try something new, and it works great. So neither ability is bad. However intimidate helps the entire team and can weaken a monster like Gyarados or Tyranitar, where Moxie's only good if you're in sweeping mode and taken out a Pokemon or two. Then again a sandile with Moxie who's taken out 1 Poke already will hit harder than a sandile without Moxie, so cases can be made for both.

Edit - There is one thing I'm kinda disappointed in tho, Sheer Force. When my Darumaka finally evolved I was eager to try it out, so used Flare Blitz and Hammer Arm thinking Sheer Force's ability(negate secondary effects to raise power by 30%) would negate Flare Blitz's recoil and Hammer Arm's speed drop, and both still went thru. It's still a great ability, and I'm happy he Darmanitan got it and dumped that lousy accuracy drop he had as Darumaka, but didn't understand the ability fully and had my hopes set too high lol. Then again if the ability did what I was thinking it'd be pretty broken I guess lol.

Sheer Force removes secondary effects like the chance of Burn in the case of Fire Blitz.

The first Rufflet I caught had it but I caught a second one with Keen Eye. Rufflet only learns 1 move that is affected by Sheer Force, a special Flying move.

Thanks for that heads up on Ruffet, I was planning on Sheer Force for him since I like the ability. It's useless tho if only one move uses it, you're right.

Also did a bit more of a team shake up. Took out Zoroark for a Joltik, and finally took out my Servine for a Ferroseed. Jolitk is already showing some awesome, he's already fast, but using thunderwave makes electro ball deadly.

Ferroseed tho, is just a monster, and it's not because of his power or anything. I put rocky helmet on him, and watched an Audino 2 levels higher than him hit a 5 hit double slap, even with an oran berry go off, and take himself from 100%hp to 0 in one turn. Right now his attack is crap, but I can only imagine what happens when I get some moves like stealth rock, toxic, leach seed, ect. I already put rest on him, and aside from having a bad fire weakness and a 2x fighting one, seems like he's going to be an improved Fortress.

Edit - Hmm, may hold off on Ferroseed. Just realized Stealth Rocks, Spikes, and Leach Seed are all bred into him, he'll never learn them or get them from TM's. I think I'll just breed one pre or post E4 when I have more TM's and can team some Pokemon this stuff. Until then I'm not seeing anything I can really work with other than relying on his ability and rock helm to finish something off. Guess Servine is coming back lol.

I'm up to the 4th Gym in Black, I'm really just focusing on leveling up to get through the story easily.

Servine lvl 26
Pignite lvl 26
Dewott lvl 26
Munna lvl 26

Dewott knows False Swipe and Munna knows Hypnosis and Yawn (right now), so they will be my catching duo.

When I powerhouse through White, I am going to trade over an Axew as my main, since it learns False Swipe and those dragons take forever to level up. My main goal for both games is to catch em' all, so a good catching team is a necessity.

Keep using Ferroseed. Stealth Rock and Spikes are more for competitive play.

I was grinding my Pokemon while watching TV tonight. Got Samurott, Lampent, and Excadrill to level 50 just walking around the Victory Road cave with the doctor. My other 3, Fraxure, Rufflet, and Galvantula, can't level up well there so I just went by the grass you first see on route 10 fighting Audinos. I got Rufflet to level 53, used a Rare Candy, and finally have my Braviary.

Victory Road is quite cool, too. It's not like the old games where it's one massive cave but a series of caves on the side of a mountain. So you have the cave parts and some outer parts. It feels bigger but not some annoying area that takes forever to get through with trainers and wild Pokemon.

I tried the Elite 4 earlier but the Ghost trainer KO'd my Chandelure and Samurott which were my only options to beat her. I'll probably get the others to level 54 and then fight them.

Well, I kinda got in a new habit since I got back into Pokemon with the DS games, which is why I was thinking of holding off on Ferroseed. Since right before the Elite 4 you have access to most of the best EV grinding spots, most Pokemon, a lot of good moves, and fly to get around easy, I like to make my post E4-online team before them. That way my experience from the Elite 4 will just lvl up my online team for later.

Of course I can't even get someone to breed Leach Seed and Stealth Rock onto Ferroseed until after the E4 when I bring over Torterra anyway, so that's kinda out the window. After I play around a bit with the Gen 5 online team I'll see what I like, and what I don't, and then splice together my teams from Platinum, Heart Gold, and White and make that my new team. Atleast that's what I was planning.

I guess I'm saying that anymore I don't see the point in taking an in-game team to lvl 60+, and then having to relevel an online team after. Atleast when you have the capability to make a good EV'd team before you get into the really nice xp areas around the E4 and beyond.

Thats pretty much my plan. I know I want my Nidoking and probably my Mamoswine traded over. I'll probably integrate my Charizard in too. I'll have to finish up the Black before I make anymore decisions, but from the looks of it Gigalith and Conkeldurr are gonna be staying

Another thing I forgot to add above is that I don't want to have to raise two Ferroseeds as I want to try one in online battling. It'd be a different thing if I had all of my EV reducing berries from before, and didn't have to breed moves in.

As for the above, not sure yet how I want my team. Unless the 3 headed dragon is purely amazing, thinking I'll probably keep my Garchomp in. My water type will probably be a fight inbetween my sleep talk Milotic, and my Wish Vaporeon. If I keep a fire type in it'll be a toss up, loving both my Heart Gold Growlithe and Darmanitan. Also will probably include either Tyranitar or Krookodile. Everything else I just don't know, lotsa good Pokemon to choose from lol.

I would main with a Deino instead (or in addition to) since it doesn't evolve until level 64 and you can't use it in any gyms.

My Fraxure just evolved into a Haxorus. I thought Fraxure was pretty good, but he's awesome. Though I think the Elite 4 will still be tough since I lack a Psychic move and powerful Fire move.

That's a good idea. If the last 2 days have taught me anything, it's that waiting to level those dragons until the end is a big pain.

On a related note, I caught Kyogre today and officially have all 493 in the PC of HeartGold! :yay: Phew, that took a long time.

Gratz ^.

I'm realizing that not only were insects given love, but that there's a few more dragons than usual as well. I didn't even know there was another non-legendary dragon other than the axe headed and 3 headed ones, but just encountered a blue one outside of the ice gym.

Yeah, I believe this gen introduced the most Dragons as well as the most pure Dragons.

I grinded my Pokemon up to level 54 this afternoon and beat the Elite 4. [blackout]Also beat N but Ghetsis' Hydreigon caused problems. I turned it off since I didn't want to beat all of it tonight.[/blackout]
