The Amazing Spider-Man J Jonah Jameson in the Reboot

As much as I would love to see Simmons back, there's no point in rebooting if they were bringing the same actor's back. It's all fan stuff that should be ignored. People just have to let it go and embrace a new JJ.

But Hugh Laurie is probably my top choice.

I don't understand the mindset that "it's a reboot, everything must go."

If we're talking about the main characters, then yes, everything has to change, but we've already seen that a reboot can work when you keep a side character played by the same actor. In fact, I would say M had a far bigger role in the new Bond films then JK ever did in the Spider-man ones. The same thing goes for Q in the Bond movies, with the same actor playing him with multiple Bonds.

It could easily work. There's no reason why it couldn't. And there's really no reason not to, other then people having the misplaced belief that you can't keep anything in a reboot that's remotely similar to the old series. Which I think is quite stupid frankly. The point of a reboot is to make the product better. Keep what worked and cut what didn't. JK worked.

People keep bringing up M in the new Bond movies but I really think they should have gotten a new actor with that franchise too. If they wanted a reboot they should have gotten someone new, especially since now there is a weird effect where the old M overlaps with the new M. Judi Dench even talks as if its the same character and the same continuity as the old franchise.

If they keep JK Simmons, I'd at least hope that they'd let him take JJJ beyond merely being comedy relief, as he played him in the Raimi films. Sure, the character IS comedy relief, but he's not JUST comedy relief....if you understand my meaning. Make him a real foil for Spider-Man, a real pain in Spidey's ass. They barely touched on that in the Raimi films. I mean, this is the guy who help bring the Scorpion into existence for the sole purpose of destroying Spider-Man.

Oh, I agree with that. And Simmons could pull off a more serious aspect of JJJ quite easily.

I just realized when I saw the title of the thread that JK Simmons would be recast:csad:

I'd love for him to come back but I imagine with a whole new reboot with a new cast an director that they'd clean house an start from scratch. What a shame I was excited when I read that Simmons had jumped on board for SM4

I'd like to see a Jameson that you don't want to upset. An intimidating a-hole.

There needs to be some humor in JJJ's rage. There can be a serious side sometimes but most of the time Peter finds great amusement in seeing JJJ get really steamed up because he knows he's gotten to him. If that amusement isn't carried over to the audience then a huge aspect of the character is lost.

I get that, but what's wrong with actual recasting? People have to let it go. I want to see something new, takr advantage of this reboot and not keep some people because they liked him specifically.

Even a-holes can be funny. But J.K. Simmons was just that. Nothing more.

Like you were saying in your last post, about seeing a JJJ you don't want to upset, we got a little taste of that when he fired Brock, that was a thunderous 'You're fired!'.
JK Simmons is more than capable of delivering an all rounded performance as JJJ, I wouldn't mind him returning at all. He is a truly great actor.
and Death's Head II made a great point about seeing Peter's amusement at JJJ's rages, that was something that we didn't get in the films that we need to see.

I didn't think of Laurie. I'm liking the sound of it though.

Jameson needs to play a more important role in the new film, rather than the comic relief that lasts one - two minutes.

Agreed! I think his character has so much more potential than just comedy relief.

Agreed, I don't understand this kind of thinking either. Especially when the actor who played JJJ was a great choice in these 3 movies!

Indeed, I hope they will do the Scorpion story this time where JJJ would have a more important part!

Yes. You're right about that. But there are so many other scenes where they make a clown out of him. Like when his desk bumps when he tries to take his medicine. Or him dressed up as Spider-Man. If that's not taking it too far, I don't know what does.

I'm in favor of recasting all characters for a completely fresh start. Simmons was great, but they made him too silly. They need to tone this character down a bit, and move away from the "caricature," as people have called it.

simmons had his time. he was great, but now its time to move one. we've already seen his jj let somone else giv it a shot. i think it wouldnt be as fun if we see him come back instead of seeing a new actor put their own twist to the character.

at the risk of sounding stupid. i dont get your sig. the only obi i know is obi-wan and i dont remember him sayin that and who is jim..

"Obi" is Obidiah Stane, the Iron Monger (the main villain from the first Iron Man film). Jim is James Rhodes, War Machine.
