Things change. Trust me, if this franchise kills at the box office, they'll keep making movies. There will only be three films though. It's been confirmed twice already.

Dude, I'm not arguing with you about the jealousy angle. That actually makes perfect sense as an underlying reason why Jameson doesn't like Spidey. I'm talking about the ridiculous motivation of, "I hate all people who wear masks because a guy in a mask shot my wife." What does he do on Halloween, lock himself in a closet?Yes he did. Like I said in my last post, one of the earliest Spidey comics dealt with this. ASM#10.
And there are plenty of other instances in the comics as well.
Tragic event? No. But when you've got a huge chip on your shoulder, from a character standpoint, it's good to have a reason, and even better if it's one that can at least be sympathized with.
Yes he does. But it's because, as his reasoning in ASM #10 and other issues points out, he does so because he wants to knock Spider-Man down so he can feel better about himself. He also believes (at last publicly) that Spider-Man thinks he is better than everyone else and his actions are nothing more than him flaunting his superiority and that his battles are either staged, or that the bad guys wouldn't exist if Spider-Man wasn't around.

Telling me I'm wrong isn't arguing?Well, you DID say that Stan Lee has never given JJJ a reason to hate Spidey, and your own reason was wrong. I was correcting that, not arguing.
In other words, he hates vigilantes. OK, I'll buy that. Once again, it's the "single traumatic motivating event" that I think is lame. If you disagree, fine. Can we get past this now?As far as the cartoon's reasoning, you're certainly entitled to your opinion of it, but based on your halloween jab, I think you might be missing the point.
It's not the literal act of wearing a mask that he hates, it's the mindset and actions of someone who thinks their anonymity gives them the right to do what they want regardless of the law or consequences. The mask is just a metaphor for that. And that's just one of the reasons given in the cartoon (the others being what I've mentioned previously).
JJJ basically hates him because of a Freudian reason. That's what it boils down to. But on the flip side as gruff and self serving as he is, he can be a nice guy when need be. I liked in SM1 when he didn't even think twice about not selling out Parker to Goblin when he asked.
I've never been a fan of the "masks" angle. I think a mixture of underlying jealousy and a strong distaste for vigilantes works best.

What I meant by my previous statement was that Stan never felt the need to concoct some hokey story from Jonah's past to explain his hatred for Spidey, or people in masks in general.

Lots of people seem to forget that alot of people would be like that in reality. There is really no need for a traumatic event like that. The lack of such would rather make Jonah mirror the everyday person in a better way. Most people dislike vigilantes without having suffered from a traumatic thing. That would make Jonah much more interesting, at least in my opinion.
By the way, I don't want Jonah's wife to be murdered. I like in the comics that he has a wife.
There is in one comic where Spidey swings past Jonah's office and looks inside and notices how Jonah looks older and more fragile. It's pretty late as well. Instead of mocking him, as Spidey usually does, he instead gives him a friendly advice to get some rest and spend some time with his wife instead of working late. Jonah, very surprised by this, goes from angry (as a, for him, natural reaction when seeing Spidey) to reflecting about what Spidey actually said and goes home, kissing his wife or something.
That's just a great scene IMO that I'd love to see in a movie sometime, in ASM3 maybe.
Jonah actually is a widower. His first wife (and mother of John) was killed by a mugger in the comics. He didn't marry his second wife until ASM#150-something.
Sounds like a great scene. Do you know which issue that's from?

Yes, Teacher. Please don't make me stay after class. No more than when a teacher puts an x on an incorrect answer in a test.
Then you need to learn to express yourself better.
That isn't what you were saying at all.

Definitely, i love them. And the Spidey Vault too was a very neat acquisitionAgreed. It's a great way to be able to enjoy all those older comics as a hard copy and with a reasonable price tag.

Sheesh, you really need to get off your high horse there, Mr. Perfect.
That's where you're wrong, Pal. Go back and look at my original comment that started this debate. All I said was that the mask thing was a lame retcon.

Finally, you say something I agree with.who am I to pass judgment on a persons opinion?
For the record, I don't feel any hostility toward you. I am, however growing weary of your condescending and superior tone. I made a simple statement about my opinion and since then all you seem to want to do is badger me into agreeing with you.Dude, whats the with unneccesary hostility? All Ive done is try and give you accurate information.
whatever man. I've been nothing like that, but you're welcome to imagine whaever it is that makes you feel better.yep they're in colour, though i knw what u mean bout the black and white ones. The masterworks though are beautifulIve always been iffy about getting the older collections none of them (that Ive seen) have been in color which is a big turn off for me. Im assuming by your description the Masterworks is in color?
