Rogue One James Earl Jones is Darth Vader in Rogue One

This movie just proved to me Darth Vader was just toying with Luke Skywalker or that he didn't really want to kill him after seeing how he tore apart that ship.

This movie just proved to me Darth Vader was just toying with Luke Skywalker or that he didn't really want to kill him after seeing how he tore apart that ship.

That was already pretty clear in Empire and Jedi. In ESB he had no intention to kill Luke as he wanted to recruit him as his apprentice. In ROTJ he was internally conflicted because he felt the pull back to the light.

The real question is what was his excuse for not tearing the rebels apart in the corridor beginning of A New Hope? Was he just tired after massacring a bunch of them an hour earlier? :oldrazz:

Weakest vader appearance yet, he had cheesy lines and his costume look a little off. Either have him as the big bad or don't have him at all. Also, did i miss something or could Vader have easily kept the rebels from getting the plans in that last scene, if he had just hurried up a little?

Yeah, sorry.

Nothing will top the awfulness of his one appearance in Revenge Of The Sith. Nothing.

His costume and helmet look so cheap looking. He moves his head so easily and freely, you can feel how lightweight and plastic his helmet and mask is. The actor could have done a better job of showcasing some weight to his movements. It's was particularly bad when he was on his Star destroyer and tells the crew guy to prepare his shuttle. I cringed at that last part when he's walking away. He turns and walks away with zero body language or flare and heads straight down the hall like a really bad cosplay character lol.

They basically maintained the suit look from the 1977 version is what I got from it. It wasn't supposed to look as sleek as the more recent ones you see on film or in museums or whatever.

Yep and you could see they kept the reddish lenses from ANH. I appreciated what I saw.

Again, I really liked the tone they struck with Vader. He wasn't the barely-mobile version we saw in ANH, and he wasn't the ADHD kid on crack either. It was rather close to the "feel" of the character from Vader Down.

My only gripe with him in regards to the story was he did nothing. He killed off some rebel common soldiers in a failed attempt to retrieve the plans and that was that. Then again, if they'd put him versus the protagonists in the final battle you just know they wouldn't have resisted making it some sort of "epic showdown" and that was precisely what his appearance should not have been in this movie.

For all intents and purposes, in this context Vader is a demigod.

I loved the amount we got. It was perfect in my opinion. We got the context of his place in the Empire, the Emperors muscle, while not overshadowing "The Empire" itself as the actual villain as a whole. I like him in small doses as the boogie man so to speak.

So he shouldn't have been in ANH or ROTJ?

Vader was not the main villain in this, Krennic was. Vader is like that guy you know of in like urban legend. Like people know he's part of the Empire but haven't seen him, or lived to tell anyone. That's why the rebels that got cut down were probably ****ting themselves beforehand.

I really like the surprise Mustafar appearance, even as much as his great lightsaber fight.
It's a nice piece of added backstory that really adds a lot to the character without having to use a lot of exposition dumps. Just seeing him in the Bacta tank in the center of this mausoleum on the planet where Anakin was reborn as Darth Vader is very powerful.

His interaction with Krennic was also very great. We've seen Vader do that before, but I really liked the dialogue and the way he put Krennic into place was great. (I also dug Ben's role as Krennic)

The more I think about it, my only issue is that he really could have got the plans in that hallway. Even with the distractions of he'd moved just a bit faster or used the force to grab the disk like he did those weapons it would've been over. I feel like Edwards could've rectified that by getting the plans taken just a bit sooner. Otherwise, I have no problems at all with Vader in the film.

Yep, they even brought in the original sculpture of Vader's helmet for the first film. Edwards said they made the decision to go for a look similar to the first film, even with the problems of the first film' suit.

Wouldnt be surprised if they even went as accurate as to make it non-symmetrical, like the original.

They did a lot of stylistic suck, as TV Tropes puts it, in this movie. You noticed the scout walker on Jedha walked in kind of that jerky stop motion gait.

A little explanation I saw on tv tropes.
Following onto the thought of the Rebels making off with the plans just ahead of Vader. His hallway slaughter of the Rebels was quite impressive (and possibly even cathartic for Vader), but it took slightly more time for him to accomplish than it did for the Rebels to pass the plans along and keep them out of his grasp. If Vader had just chucked a grenade or even opened fire with a blaster to one-shot the guy with the plans, he would have succeeded in his mission. Vader went for something flashy and terrifying instead of the simple approach, and thus failed. How typically like Anakin Skywalker.
He could used the force to throw his lightsaber down the hallway and cut everyone in half.

People tend to forget that as badass as he is, he's still Anakin Skywalker under all that black, lol.
