i respect writters of movie sites who knew that he wont be hired back and squeezed around 5 extra articles in 2 weeks out of this story.

To all the fans without an adblocker who clicked on all those articles and gave them money through ads. cute :hehe::up:

I'm surprised Feige didn't come back as soon as he heard the news. Find it odd he's still on holiday. According to the variety report.

Very sad. The MCU will never be the same to me. I won't be seeing the next Guardians or CM either. These cowards aren't getting my money.
Why the outrage and grand standing now? Why did you buy tickets for Disney/Marvel movies before? Disney isn't exactly squeaky clean. Why did you buy tickets when 'criminals' and people with shady pasts have and are still working there? You should have stopped giving them money a long time ago...

How long before another article pops up saying disney may still bring him back in some capacity?

And I'm fairly certain the people saying that they're going to boycott either Vol. 3 or the future MCU films will still either be first in line to buy a ticket or to get the films when they come out on Blu-Ray.

Admittedly, I haven't seen an MCU film in theaters since Doctor Strange because money and other reasons I just haven't felt compelled to see them on the big screen, but some people claiming they won't see upcoming Marvel Studios films are probably all talk. Not all of them, but some sure as heck are.

Very disappointing :csad:

My hype for GotG3 is much lower.

Other studios have interest in Gunn so he ain't exactly blacklisted. But we'll see how part 3 fares.

Great news. Now lets get on with our lives.

Agreed. It definitely taints thing a bit. I was watching the Director’s Roundtable extra feature on Infinity War which gathered most of the MCU directors including Gunn and it was a bit uncomfortable to watch now.

I guess its SOMETHING that Horn met with Gunn after initially kowtowing to a cybernazi scam, but this entire situation reeks. Firing a director for edgy jokes made (mostly) before his contract was signed sets a bad precedent for the Mouse. Lets see if they hold all employees to the same high moral standard and purge their ranks of anyone who has ever made an offensive joke.

And shame on Feige for not standing by an employee who delivered two wildly successful films and had the full support of his cast and crew. I wonder if Iger offered to make him Horn's successor so long as he toed the company line.

As nice and romantic to think that Feige should have given them hell to keep Gunn we don't know the full story behind the scenes. I was unfortunately involved with a HR matter in my company recently and my supervisor was left out it because it had become a company matter.

I'll see it...just potentially not OW. It's going to now depend on how the movie looks and who is doing it now. If they don't knock my socks off, I may voice my displeasure by skipping OW.

It's sounding more and more like Gunn WILL be back, but not til AFTER the fox deal is finalized.

Here's the thing. The Disney Fox acquisition is now going through INTERNATIONAL regulatory approval. This means regulators from around the world now have to approve the move.
So, Disney is going out of their way to try and do everything as on the up and up as they can, so as to not upset any international sensibilities.

In other words, rehiring Gunn for GotG 3, at this moment, would be suicide for the Fox deal. Said deal will probably not be finalized/finished with international approval until mid 2019.

So, I'm guessing middle to late next year we will be getting an announcement that Gunn will be directing F4 or the next Deadpool/X-Force, or something more Gunn-esque.

This is probably why they haven't scrapped his script. It's probably part of a compromise to attempt to maintain some integrity, and not throw the baby out with the bathwater. Obviously they never had a problem with Gunn's vision for the films.

What's OW?

Yeah no. It's a PR nightmare for sure, but James Gunn is not going to sink a billion dollar deal years in the making.

Disappointing on so many levels. I have to admit this curbs my enthusiasm for not just GOTG but the entire MCU in general. If Disney can be the "bull in the china shop" any time they want just for the sake of some virtue signaling then it's clear to me that Marvel's future is on shaky ground.

Even the Fox acquisition feels less like a win. After Infinity War I'm fully expecting more homogenized, lackluster POTC, Cars, Lone Ranger type of drivel. I hope I'm wrong and that I'm just overreacting. I hope GOTG v3, the new X-Men and FF all blow me out of the water. The FF certainly can't be any worse off than they ever were. If the MCU can keep Feige then I think things might turn out all right... at least until the next random bomb dropped by the higher-ups.

But this whole situation blows. Meanwhile, entertainers are held to higher standards than political leaders. It's all so messed up.

The idea that Disney doesn’t want to rehire Gunn because it could jeopardize the Disney deal is ludicrous. Gunn would’ve been fired and not rehired even if the Fox deal wasn’t going to happen — and Fox shareholders and international regulators in other countries either don’t know about the James Gunn scandal or don’t care at all. It won’t be a factor in their decision making when deciding upon whether or not to approve of the deal.

So correct me if i'm wrong here but Disney/Marvel will use Gunn's script but won't let him direct?

Makes no sense. If he doesn't "fit" with Disney's "family values" surely they won't still have him involved by using his script. Note, I'm glad they're using his script but the "moral logic" is ass.

Agreed. Gunn not being rehired is not a move to make sure they can buy FOX. That's just....no

I'm ready to move on from the whole Gunn situation. I think Vol 3 will be pushed back, at least to the July date.

As far as Bautista goes, Drax leaves a lot to be desired in the MCU for me so if he's not back I don't really care.

It takes alot of will power to be able to hold out for two years until Vol. 3 is released to boycott the film.

They'll be fans who will remain bitter at Disney over this firing for sure, but given that there seems to be a new fan outrage every few months, I find it hard to believe that that many fans will really end up boycotting or not seeing Vol 3 in two years.

Two years is a decade in internet years. Fans will move forward from this, though they won't forget about it and they'll likely hold a grudge.

I'm skeptical it will be enough of a grudge that they won't see Avengers 4, Captain Marvel, and Spiderman far from Home, let along GOTG Vol 3.

I don't really care about Gunn or Bautista, so I'm happy for the team to move on in whatever way they can.

They'll both get work elsewhere and the Guardians/MCU franchise will keep chugging along.

I'm not boycotting MCU films. I know myself, LOL! But, my hype for GotG3 has taken a hit and at least I may want to speak up about that by not contributing to OW. If enough people even just do that, still teaches a lesson. On average, I see an MCU film like, 4 times. I saw the Cap sequels and the Avengers films about 6 each. GotG3 if they don't find a way to win me over what happened here may get only 1 or 2 out of me.

In a way,it's nice to have closure on the matter.

But I am so disappointed with this whole situation and like a few others, my excitement for Volume 3 has been severely dampened.
