Thanks for the needless insult.
Not really an insult, just my reaction...
What the hell were you even saying dude?

Seriously disappointed by the pictures of civilian Max Dillon. Glad to see he's fulfilling the stereotypical, over-the-top creepy, nerd archetype. But it's cool, because that's exactly the dumbed down, infantile level that Hollywood has conditioned the general audience to operate on.

This along with the "glowing blue man" in a black suit are indicative enough to tell me that the filmmakers not only lack any imagination whatsoever, but feel the need to hit you over the head with what they're trying to say. So pathetic.
Okay... guess someone's not happy with how things are turning out...

That's not really a surprise. Judging from the way several posters criticize ASM and their reasons for disliking ASM, they definitely have some specific idea on what they want (regardless of what they want is good or bad in actuality). Obviously, their quick dislike of everything they're seeing at this point won't get better in the actual film because there are certain things these guys just won't let up on, and are not going to be satisfied with. Wait for the next reboot, maybe it'll do things the way you want. Or you can just make your spider-man movie in your head every night when you go to sleep.

But then again, there are those people who will say what they will now, but when the actual film is released and they see it, their opinion changes drastically. That really does happen all the time.

Your theory is half right. Of course everyone's got ideas about how a certain character should or should not be treated- that's why these forums exist. duh. If you're perfectly happy with and want to praise every decision that Marc Webb makes, that's perfectly fine. It's your prerogative. These aren't praise boards though, they're discussion boards. If I see a decision made that seems particularly contrived or redundant, then I'll voice my thoughts on it. You can respond intelligently, or you can complain about what you percieve as other people complaining.

But then again, there are those people who will say what they will now, but when the actual film is released and they see it, their opinion changes drastically. That really does happen all the time.

It happens all the time. But after being on these boards for long enough and anticpating movie after movie, seeing the setpics, interviews, all of that, not once have I been drastically surprised by the final result in the theater. Sure sometimes one is pleasantly surprised by a good film that meets your expectations, but more often than not, it's a let down time and again.

It's almost a joke at this point. Set pics, video, whatever are released. They look awful, fanboys assure that it'll look MUCH better in the finished product and then it doesn't. I'm all for being optimistic, but not blissfully ignorant.

That's all well and good, you want more. I get that, but until we see some actual footage and how it actually plays out, we shouldn't be quick to axe it or give it almighty praise.

Fanboys will say what they will, but that isn't always they case. People were saying how awful TASM's suit looked in in early images. But when they actually saw it in action most of them were pretty suprised.

Yeah, you're right about that first part- Maybe I'm just coming off as a bit harsher and cynical about this film than I actually am...I'm not giving anything the axe, but I find it difficult not to be skeptical given some of the information we've been receiving...

In the case of the TASM suit, after seeing the set pics and whatnot, I wasn't surprised or blown away by an increase or decrease in quality. It was exactly what I had expected from all the pics and videos.

So many...people...without avatars...arguing...hurts...eyes...

Slavish devotion to the classic comic look would speak more for lack of imagination and hit you over the head with the fact that Electro is based on electricity.

And besides, what are the filmmakers "trying to say" by having a glowing blue guy in a black suit? Do tell. Lol.

Spider-Man will turn Max evil by mocking him - only to learn absolutely nothing and continue cracking jokes about the guy as he goes on an insane rampage.
Unlike Batman or Supes, Spider-Man seems to really have no concept of compassion towards his enemies nor does he ever seem to comprehend that his words have actions and that routinely humiliation mentally fragile people will only make their behaviour far, far worse.

It's why he's such a good character, because he's such a damn hypocrite. He knows absolutely nothing about responsibility and is just about the most immature, selfish creep in the Marvel Universe.
Honestly, don't think I'm dissing him, because this is all why I admire the character.

I just hope people see that side of him more and ask if his constant quips and jokes pushed Electro to lengths he wouldn't have resorted to otherwise.

Haha, I like your take. In the early comics it did seem like he went too far at times, especially with jumping to conclusions. I'm not sure if he "bullies" his enemies as much in modern comics, but in the first 155 issues he does frequently.

Huh? This sentence hardly makes any sense. Who's saying the adaptation of this character needs to be "slavish" to the comic book? Damn, fanboys only operate in extremes. How would a costume that referenced or payed homage to the classic costume be "slavish" or heavy handed? Was Avengers "slavish" and heavy handed? Is the TASM2 Spider-Man costume "slavish" and heavy handed? Why is it OK for one costume in this movie to appear exactly like the comic book, but the has absolutely ZERO resemblance. (in case you need this spelled out, no one is asking for the star mask or bright costume, but a toned down, cinematic interpretation- this requires creativity)

This is what I'm saying, with a little imagination, they could have incorporated a dark green or yellow into the costume, similar to the dark indigo and blue on Hawkeye's costume in Avengers rather than go the boring route with the generic black suit look.

Also, how does a glowing blue man with pulsing veins not hit you over the head that he's "based on electricity"? (I'm still not clear on what you were trying to communicate there).

I forgot that fanboys are also the insanely literal types. The Max Dillon look is heavy handed and over the top- and to me, the Electro look is the Sony "creative" team, playing it safe, going with the tired "glowing blue guy" (look! look! he has electrical powers! You can tell cause he's glowing and blue- because, uh, electricity!) The black suit is also creatively bankrupt. The tried and true path for making a character appear cool/mysterious/menacing.

How would you make it obvious a guy has electrical powers without making him glowing or something similar? Not being facetious. I'm curious. Because that may be "creatively bankrupt" but it works pretty well in most things.

It's the same reason that we didn't need to see the Scarecrow in Batman Begins with a full "scarecrow" costume complete with hat and scythe. To me, the glowing blue guy thing is the obvious, over-the-top villain route. I would have prefered that they go the road less traveled, which is the more subdued, subtle route (which is totally doable). Put more of an emphasis on the character and story rather than having to resort to juvenile, predictable visual cues.

As for his powers, I'd think that Dillon using his powers would be an obvious demonstration of him having them.

Like this:

Make it so the smokey stuff is Dillon's skin, like its barely restraining his electricity/lightning.

Turn him into a dark cloud...?
That's sounds extremely silly.

Then it would just remind me of:

Lost409_2.jpg

And as much as I love LOST, I don't see it working for Electro...

As it stands, I'm liking the look of Dillon and Electro in this.

No; the stuff you see on my elemental that's dark clouds would be Max Dillon's body; the electricity/lightning would be inside, arcing out of the eyes, mouth, and piercing the skin at random points. They could be magnified action potentials from damage to Max's neurons by whatever gives him his powers/condition.

Max would be decaying over the course of the movie until he's pure lightning; this would require mocap going into the third act. Remember, this is just a way to remind us that Max has control over electricity.

1.) Please, point out the flaws with my previous post. I'm not being sarcastic or anything, I'd like critique.

2.) How do you think Dillon's mom will figure into the plot?

We already have a source material... Why deviate to something absurd?

It isn't any more absurd than a blue man with sparks; that and mine are physical changes. That isn't meant to perpetuate an argument; that's just my rationale.
