The Amazing Spider-Man 2 Jamie Foxx IS Electro - Part 3

I consider the character that's been around for 50 years, not the one that made 2 appearances in a now canceled series and one video game.

Regardless, the interpretation did make print/television, so it is an incarnation of Electro. If it helps, you can think of the bolt patterns around this Electro's face as references to the starburst lightning bolt mask of classic Electro. :yay:

I hadn't thought of that.
Well played.

I really don't like that excuse. Just because it's been seen in print, it's "from the comics" and therefore, somehow valid. When the TASM costume was revealed, there was uproar about how it deviated so much from the classic design- Then someone posted a page from a one-shot, revised origin tale from years ago that no one even remembers showing a costume that kind of, a little bit bore a couple similarities. They seemed to be happy with this because they could tell themselves it that the TASM suit was "from the comics".

My qualm with that is that there's no history there, these "new" looks aren't iconic and memorable in the way the "classic" costumes are.

But you know what? If they really blow me away with a really stellar, well put together film, I won't be too bothered about Electro's look.

Does anyone think there will be a schizophrenic element to Max Dillon. He is giving off vibes that he cannot tell betwee fantasy and reality. I guess that would be a new element for a villain.

Yeah, but now you're talking about his costume needing to resemble (or in this case look 100% faithful) the comic book for reasons other than the story.

These are iconic heroes and villains. They can go 100% faithful with a bright red and blue spandex unitard, which is, for all intents and purposes, completely cheesy, but they can't maintain even a miniscule amount of faithfulness for Electro's costume? It just seems incredibly stupid and narrow minded.

I've been on both sides before. Sometimes the changes make sense and really fit the character and sometimes they just don't make any sense

:applaud Exactly! All of this.

I'm a fan of ultimate spider-man, and I dont really mind his look per se, but Electro is one of my favourite villains, and I've always wanted some sort of live-action costume that somewhat resembles his 616, heck I know it looks cheesy as all hell and there was little chance but to me that is part of his character, giving him a plain black suit and making him look 'cool' is not what I think he should be. This is a guy who WANTS to get noticed, not blend in. Marvel Knights Electro's costume was one I always thought could be translated somewhat and would be the most plausible. Spider-Mans the hero, i get it so the villains are always gonna come second, but if they can have a giant naked green lizard, and a guy in red/blue spandex, would Electro's costume really be that far fetched? Especially when everyone is okay with this OTT take of MAX, like that isnt cheesy at all, but Electro's costume...oh no that would look stupid!

Personally I think a nice line would to take the USM costume, and take the lightning bolts and boots off his classic costume, and embedd it into the material, similar to how they did the X-Men suits. Nice combination of them both imo.

I can picture Jamie foxx as electro but I can't picture the 616 costume on the silver screen but if they could get done more power to them .

The villian always has to look good. It's a big draw for a CBM, that the villian looks cool. If Electro looked goofy I guranatee you people would be more on the fence with this movie. This is a "grounded" Spider-Man universe, so where would Max get a costume that resembles comic Electro? Vid's idea is not anymore intelligent then Electro just wearing whatever he has on. Max just so happens to find a suit that's green and yellow? How is that good writing? Max is a nobody anyway, he shouldn't be worried with protecting his identity, hell he doesn't even look like the same person. The most important aspect to any character IMO is the spirit of the character. Everything else is simply dressing. Electro isn't even iconic outside the comics.

But the thing is blue glowing Electro been making more appearances in the media: 2 more recent cartoon shows(3 if you view Spectacular Spider-man as a meld of Ultimate and 616 look), 2 video games, similar look with green and yellow costume post guantlet and a comic which you claim is canceled when it simply got a rename and a different Spidey(ultimate six#1-7, ultimate Spider-man#113-4,#157-159, ^ Ultimate Comics Spider-Man #5 (December 2011) ) .

So while it hasn't been as long as the green and yellow costume, it has been getting shown in media more and more(especially makes sense when ASM used alot of USM Scenes, picture, etc already that he did Early ASM comics, movie, etc)

616 Electro I don't think has ever even been on tv. He was in two games (MUA2 and SM2: EE) but that's it outside of comics and a few
toys.

I don't buy this. What about Kick Ass? Scott Pilgrim? Also we aren't talking about a literal translation of the suit, but a mere resemblence to his 616. Did Captain America look goofy in TFA? or Hawkeye and Loki in Avengers? Trust me, if they wanted to do a grounded take of Electro's costume then they would have found a way too...heck maybe they did but they preferred this one better.

Who said that? your putting words in my mouth I never said. I also did not once mention the mask, as if the suit was ever translated I wouldnt want a mask. It could be an Oscorp containment/prototype suit, or a stolen suit from NYPD or something.

That's it though, Electro's costume is as much a part of his character as everything else. I'm happy with the way they are going, and its pretty obvious why they went the way they did but theres a small part of me that was dying to see a live action Electro costume.

I disagree, it's just a look. A very 60s one at that; which is great, dont get me wrong. But the most important parts of his character are his powers and his inferiority complex, both of which they appear to have adapted into the film.

er.. he was in the 90's TV Series.

Really? I don't remember him being in TAS. Hi. 616 look isnt even really iconic outside of the comics. I personally prefer this look, because it can be viewed as a rebirth for him.

@ Scarlettess
I wasn't really talking directly to you to be honest lol I said Vid when I mentioned Max finding the suit, it was his idea from a while back. Also Kickass is different, the movie is more of a black comedy then anything. It's satire. Scott Pilgrim is also different because it's a different movie with a purposely arcadey visual style and pop ups. Kickass, Spider-Man, and Scott Pilgrim are far from being on leveled ground.

That mask wasn't going to work in live action unless you're planning on turning him into a joke. That's all there is to it.

Hawkeye wasn't wearing anything goofy, his costume looked almost black the entire movie (I know it wasn't).

Here is how I believe Max Dillion/Electro are going to work in this movie. Max is a guy who has always gotten the short end of the stick. He's always overlooked, he's the "ugly duckling", he never really gets anywhere in life no matter how hard he tries. He tries to live his life and ignore all of his misfortune, but also has very low self-esteem. Suddently he's granted powers, and not only that but he's also physically transformed into something that can be described as "badass". He's been reborn. Now he's no longer a joke, and all the power goes to his head, corrupting him. It could work.

Oh apologies then! lol it was just it under mine so I thought it was to me lol I get Scott Pilgrim and Kickass are different but they're still classified as CBM's. Just to clarify I dont want Electro to be cheesy or rediculously stupid, I'd want a costume that still fits into the movie.

Also I bought up Hawkeye because I think they did the perfect almagation of using the Ultimate suit with the classic colours (the purple), and made it look really cool when they could have gone with this.

My point is is that I hope they do something more along the lines of what they did for Hawkeye in Avengers, not just make Electro's suit plain boring black.

electro has a plain black suit in the ultimate comics though. it's only distinguishing feature is the lightning bolt shaped collar/opening

and...so does Hawkeye in Ultimates.....(mostly, albiet with a bit of red).

The lightning collar I'd be happy without, but if there was like a lightning motif somewhere on the suit, as a nod to his 616, then I'd be happy.
