The Amazing Spider-Man Jamie Foxx IS Electro

I'm surprised by the positivity behind this possible casting news...even though the thread title suggests he got the role...

I always pictured Electro as "over the top" and I'd see Foxx as a more inspired subtle character. So if this happens, I'm intrigued.

And for the record, I thought a lot of people were going to hate this news. But whatever, nerds are unpredictable.

I think Foxx gets a lot of crap from people in general despite being good in 'Ray', 'Collertial', 'Dream Girls', and hell even 'Horrible Bosses'. And hopefully Django can only boost him out of that 'singer career' stigma that he had for the past decade. It's like how it took a decade before people started to like Ben Affleck again after his 'JLO/Bad movie' stage.

I am just not a fan of any of the casting choices they've been making in this movie. Not a fan of Garfield's spider-man (although that is a direction/writing problem since he would actually make a great PP with the right guidence), Emma stone's gwen, the lizard, aunt may, uncle ben...certainly NOT a fan of shailene woodley being Mary Jane (huge wtf to me.) and I'm definitely not feeling Jamie Foxx as Electro. Sorry but no. These movies possibly have the worst casting choices of any superhero movie I've watched.

I actually liked everyone else cast in the first one except Gwen and Parker.

Then you certainly have a problem, IMO. :D

Garfield is a better Parker than Tobey was. Garfield can act. Emma, Aunt May and Uncle Ben are great choices also, those three are GREAT actors and 2 of 'em have already done greaters things with their careers in the past and Emma is following that track just like Andrew. The lizard... now I would have liked if Connors was somebody else... Rhys is ok but he didn't actually convinced me.

Garfield is just kind of an ugly guy to look at. He talks way too fast. His Parker was awful. Why tell Gwen? Inside the costume again not enough jokes. A few scenes. His best scene was yelling at the end. He looked old as hell. I never understood why not just cast a teenager? I could go on.

Garfield was believable as a late teen so i don't see how you think he "looked old as hell". His Parker was a lot more accurate than Tobey's in my opinion. Maguire was too nerdy and Garfield talked too fast....i mean...you're never gonna please everyone.

Here's the thing when casting actors who are the age of the character your casting for WHEN the character is under 18.

Odds are the actor won't have much experience and there fore you run the risk that the actor will be... well.... bad. Casting an actor who is older, you will at least get a halfway decent performance.

Though TBH, I highly doubt age mattered at all when it came you Garfield. He was cast based on his talent.

And as far as him looking old at times, I don't see it. I look older than Andrew did in TASM 7/10 and I'm only 18.

From the just released Collider interview:

Why Oscorp is important to Webb’s Spider-Man universe:

“When I was thinking about the universe as a whole—and I talked about this with [screenwriter] Jamie Vanderbilt way back in the day—that all crazy stuff in this universe emerges from Oscorp. Oscorp predates Spider-Man and Peter Parker. His parents were involved in some way. And Oscorp represents… The building itself, there was something iconic about it. To me it’s like the Tower of Babel, which is this testament to man’s hubris. Peter’s relationship will evolve with it over time. That was really one of the central components, one of the pieces that tied all these stories together, this relationship with Oscorp.”

So why Electro?

"I think Electro is an incredibly visual, exciting, dangerous villain. There is a lot of appealing stuff that is going to happen as the world emerges.”

Where they are at in production:

“The script’s done. We’re doing little tweaks here and there for characters and locations. But it’s done and it’s fantastic. I feel really, really good about it.”

I'll be honest, the choice is so odd it's tough for me to judge it.

Perfect summation of this situation.

How can anyone judge this? Yeah, you can be mad that he's not a white actor but its not right to say whether or not he's not right for the role based on the color of his skin. That is asanine and borderline discriminatory.

Huh, is there any way I can delete my last post. I mean if I can't express my opinion what's the point? I watched the movie and gave it an A-. Best comic book movie of the year. The only thing I felt holding it back was Garfield and Stone. Just my opinion. SHould have hired a real teenager for Parker.

Its fine. And I think avengers blew it away

I'm totally with ya. I hate it though

Let me just say this.

Excuse me for this, but, of all the ****ing actors in the world. The pick Jamie Fox. Jamie Foxx is my least favorite actor out there. I HATE jaimie fox, I think he's an arrogant bastard, and he comes off with that jaimie foxx arrogance in all his roles. I hate this casting choice. Hate it with a passion.

I'm pissed.

Sounds awesome!

I think Jamie Foxx is a cool, outside the box choice. He can be really cool as Electro.

Based on talent he brings and star power, I think that this (Jamie Foxx ) is awesome choice !

Jamie Foxx? Yeah well this is at least going to be fun leading up to the movie. He is hit or miss and he doesn't have that many hits in his corner. He was good in Ray and that's about it. He got upstaged in Collateral...and that's about it for his career highlights.

i approve :D been waiting to see electro on the big screen for years :D
can't wait to see what foxx brings to the role

I don't agree.

While he may not have a bunch of Oscar nods under his belt, he has been good in alot of films, including The Soloist, among others.

I watched Collateral before stumbling into this news...I am very surprised/curious/optimistic.

I'm with the guy who said this was to odd to judge.
If you told me to guess who'd be playing electro and gave me a thousand years to do so I don't think Jamie Foxx would have ever crossed my mind.
We'll see how this turns out.
But seeing as ASM was my second favorite CBM of the year I know the franchise is in good hands so I'm not worried.

There are a lot of people that have been in a lot of good films. Jamie Foxx is not a character actor. You will see Jamie Foxx the entire time. I'm not saying he's terrible, but lets take a look here...was anybody hoping Jamie Foxx would be Electro? No. Some of you would have been excited had Tom Cruise been cast as Electro. It's an odd choice race aside as race doesn't matter for non major character to me at least but it's very odd that people are getting excited over Jamie Foxx...who isn't that great of an actor. He may pull it off, who knows at this point, but I think that deck is very much stacked against this movie.

This has reached Topher Grace as Venom territory.

wasn´t Leadger and odd choice? i remember everyone hating when he was casted

Jamie Foxx certainly is a very good actor with a big enough name draw who is no stranger to action-based movies. My question is, considering Electro is considered to be on a B-list villain for Spider-Man--a very high B-list, but B-list all the same--is it a part that can carry the movie as the main villain? Granted, if the sequel takes it's inspiration from Spectacular Spider-Man in that it re-creates Electro as a tragic villain who--due to changing into a being of pure energy and forced to be in a containment suit, no longer able to experience touch or taste or smell--gradually becomes more and more unhinged, it might work, especially with Foxx's performance.

Although, something tells me one of the reasons the filmmakers also decided to go with Electro is because having a guy cast lightning bolts and energy blasts from his fingertips are some of the easiest, and therefore cheapest, special effects to make. After all, there's plenty of people on Youtube who make videos of themselves casting Force Lightning using nothing more than Adobe After Effects. :oldrazz: (Although, to be fair, they are more talented than myself since I don't have or know how to use Adobe After Effects) :o
