Really bummed that they cut so many of Jared's scenes... like what the actual ****?

It's called film making harry. You shoot a lot of material but in the editing process which has lots of various influences, choices are made to keep some material and discard other stuff.

I read just read the new 52 Suicide Squad about 3 weeks ago.

Joker was just kinda "there" or he'd just do crazy stuff with no real explanation.

So if they put that in a film context I can understand people getting disappointed. It was still good, but he's not crucial to SS just Harley.

Joker's appearance in the new 52 Squad was just a crossover for Scott Snyder's Death of The Family. I read that some of the other Batman writers refused to delay their ongoing storylines for Death of The Family like how Grant Morrison didn't crossover Batman INC with Snyder's Batman storyline.

I can understand too but the Joker is meant to be more guest-star than straight up star in scenarios like this. Works better so he doesn't get over-used (like Magneto).

If the Joker is an underwhelming character in this film, and I'm afraid he might be, the blame has to mainly go on Ayer. Seems like besides the voice/laugh and some mannerisms, Ayer had full say in creating this tattoo obsessed, crime/cartel leader that relates to his other cop movies too much...

I don't think he's underwhelming. His screen time absolutely is, but his character is captivating. I thought some of his dialogue was funny and completely unexpected. If you read quotes now out of context it might sound weird so try to avoid those spoilers but in the scenes it caught me off guard, I thought it was great. His moments with some of the characters he is pretty intimidating imo, but again, these scenes are very brief and seem like the should've been longer so it's pretty much just a tease of the Joker.

Honestly the tats didn't even phase me.

Was the 'damaged' tattoo and grills explained?

Was anything about any of the newer changes to the character?

No. He does use the hand tattoo a couple times. Most of the joker stuff is simply in context to his relationship with Harley. They didn't really explore his character.

...was Leto's laugh(s) good? Varied (different from the trailers)?

Oh god, I'm grasping for something to like! :funny: :(

He laughs a few times but from what I can remember they were very similar laughs. Definitely don't expect Hamill levels of variance.

I liked them. You have that slow with the extended ahhhhhh laugh from the trailer, then you the slow laugh a couple times which are pretty much the same, and there are few of his frantic AHHAHHAHAHAHA laughs, which I think is great and a smiley-squeel or two. It's not as varied as Ledger's, but Ledger also had a boatload more screen-time. I guess it doesn't really veer off from what we've heard in the trailers, but it seems people mistake that slow laugh for his sole or primary laugh when I think he does this frantic one more.

I don't really have an issue with Joker being very supporting, it's a Squad movie after all

I have not bought in on Leto so far from the clips in terms of look and voice and I am guilty of seeing the guy as bland in terms of his physical tools. I hope he has not been miscast though many have pointed out he has a supporting role in this film. Though supporting or not it is about the impact.
will see it in a couple of days but the reactions so far dont fill me with confidence

Well inexplicably they're continuing on with Eisenberg as Lex so Lefo.can't be that bad.

Joker feels included more to serve Harley's story rather than anything else.

Seems like the New 52 Suicide Squad issue of Harley/Joker was adapted to film.

Most of Joker is just with or about Harley.

I guess the main thing to wonder is why change the Joker's look so drastically for just 10 mins in the film. Especially since there's no guarantee Ayer will include Joker in Suicide Squad 2. Then again New 52 Joker constantly changed his look so maybe thats the plan. I've grown accustomed to it. Its just if Ayer is taking full ownership of the character....use him.

Well I think sequel would have Harley so it would also have Joker..and they will use Joker in Batman films, right?
