And thank god, because the original conception (per the Art Book) was to have the HAHAHAHA's tattooed on both his brows. That would've crossed the line for me.

Oh god really? SMH... Ayer needs to chill with the tattoo's man, he has some kind of weird obsession with them. It's fine to like tattoo's and want to add some but he definitely went overboard with the tats in this movie.

Exactly, Leto himself was great and did everything he could to make his performance great. The problem was Ayer's garbage characterization, asthetic, writing and WB being so hands on about everything and cutting most of his scenes.

People also keep talking about Leto having bad line delivery... Where? Aside from "Hunka Hunka" what line delivery was bad? Are we also gonna pretend that every Ledger line was delivered perfectly? As much as I dug his performance I think he could have toned down the lip smacking a lot, but that's all gravy for people.. They'd rather focus on the 0.2 seconds LetoKer playfully growled and then they b**** about that and other things. Listen I'm not saying Ledger wasn't great, because he certainly was, but let's not discredit LetoKer because you're not a fan of what Ayer has done.

I didn't really have any problems with either the characterization, aesthetic and writing. It's mostly that the madness is not earned, and comes across as superficial, because what we got were basically clips of the Joker, which stripped away the context and his (hi)story with Harley Quinn. And that's the main fault of the movie. The reduced so much of the story to little info snippets, that much feels unearned.

Having said that, I ended up enjoying the movie anyway, mainly for David Ayer's style and atmosphere, and the characters. It's a fun movie. But very uneven, with an overly fractured and reduced narrative, and which hints at something SO much better.

They really are. The Ace Chemicals scene, imo, is his best scene. And his lines on the helicopter, to me, sounded like things TAS Joker would say. Especially the "bird is baked" line.

Ok I now official blame Ayer for the version of the joker we got in Suicide Squad.

The better question is should have fought Ayer on some of these decisions.

Then again at that point Ayer may have been overconfident. After BvS he said the lesson there is to pay attention to what the fans want. If he could do it over again he'd probably at least remove the "Damaged" tat.

I think thats the problem. The Arkham stuff is rushed, the scene with the security guard is another that looked chopped down.

The Ace Chemical and helicopter stuff are classic/great Joker imo.

However, there is too much hit and miss on the other stuff. That shouldn't be the case with the Joker especially with limited screen time. I still don't blame Leto for that as much as Ayer. I think he had a cool idea in his head, but he couldn't execute it as well as he hoped.

Solid Joker, visually at least. I like that he has a similar facial structure to Conrad Veidt in TMWL. If only he had been given at least one real scene. Looking forward to Jared/Joker in the Bat solo film, I think if given the chance he is going to come back with a vengeance for this one.

What hurts the most is: He probably had more than one real scene. It's a pity that the studio hacked it down to pieces because of the Internet backlash re: Batman V Superman.

Suicide Squad needs an Ultimate Edition as much as Zack Snyder's movie... if not more. I hope we'll get one.

Imo, an alternate cut would be far better than just serving up deleted scenes because we'd get to see it all in the proper context.

Thinking back to that weird Joker Batsuit I think based on the vision part of the final battle and the fact that we know he was present there but was cut that the vision Enchantress gave Joker would have been where it would have appeared. If this is the case hopefully we get an ultimate cut of the film so we can see it.

Leto was fine as Joker imho. I am still interested in seeing more of him.

I don't agree with those who want him recast. Why recast someone who is in the movie for only about 6-7 minutes? It would ruin the continuity of these movies.

I think Leto can be a damn fine Joker if given more to work with. There were parts of his performance I really thought were very Jokerish.

To me it seems a no brainer, but maybe there a little worried that people will always expect Ultinate curs and that could harm cinema takings for future DC properties. Maybe they'd be more clever doing a Joker Cut later on down the line.

As much as I would love to see an extended cut of SS, it's really baffling to me as how we don't get to see the best version of the recent DCEU movies in theaters. BvS UE and whatever that was cut from SS would have been much better received and it still would have made tons of money at the BO. As a DC comics fan, I really hope that WW can finally buck this ongoing trend.

Ditto mate, I even loved the BvS theatrical cut but UE was miles better. SS I'm unsure on but I really liked the film as it was, just wish so much hadn't been cut.

Agreed. But I think Jared leto expected better movie and not have so many scenes cut. Still bad version of Joker though.

I've said this before and I will say it again. Leto has what it takes to be the Joker we all deserve. I bet if we could all sit in a room and watch all the unused footage that was shot, we would all be amazed!
I think the problem though is that they tried to put as much joker in this movie without too much of him... I understand that this is a SS movie. I thought it would have been totally bad ass to have maybe 1 -2 scenes with the joker in it and that's it. But make each scene 6-7 minutes long. Why not extend that torture scene and really show what Harley went though and the things that joker must have said to her as he is doing this.... and then lets see the scene where joker and Harley interact in the streets. I really do hate it for Leto, I'm sure he is super frustrated at all the time and effort spent for less than 10 minutes of screen time? And this movie not being more dark was really a disappointment as well... BVS should have been what SS was and SS should have been what BVS was...
