Jared Leto IS The Joker - - - - - Part 14

The marketing really screwed up big this time. I think theres gonna be a lot of people in the GA who will feel misled thinking they are going to see a movie about Joker and Harley Quinn. Then theyre gonna tell their friends "Dont bother, dude, Joker's not even in the movie." and that will hurt word of mouth.

WB had a weird plan for sure. They made second movie The Dark Knight and Death of Superman and 3rd movie SS including introduction for Joker.

Kinda messed up plan. It could work greatly but apperantly they couldn't execute well.

All they had to do one Batman movie with Joker & Harley in it after Man Of Steel. And Wonder Woman solo. And Superman sequel with Lex or Doomsday in it. They would be in same place with better movies.

It's like they are trying hard to outsmart themselves.

The order should have been: MoS sequel that introduces WW. WW solo. Batman solo. Flash solo. Aquaman solo. Justice League.

Leto is a terrible Joker. He does some slightly interesting things, but he's simply not The Joker.

Jared Leto is more like a moody rockstar who is a big fan of The Joker, or like some kid who joined The Jokerz gang in Batman Beyond who idolizes The Joker. But he never becomes The Joker.

Also, I'm not angry at all about this. I understand why they went this way. They needed to make something totally different to avoid comparisons with Ledger. They needed a different type of Joker. However, in doing so, it never quite works.

Disappointing to hear :csad:

I'm still really excited to see his interpretation tonight when I give the film a watch.

Disappointing to hear :csad:

John Campea said his Joker was like a modern day Cesar Romero.

If you go in with that kind of thinking you'll really like it..

However, the story and lack of usage does him a disservice.

A lot of my GA friends are looking forward to seeing the Joker in this movie. They are going to be so disappointed that he's not really in the film.

They should have made Batman solo before JL. Ben Affleck is a good director and people liked his Batman.

Should've went:

Man of Steel 2 debuting Lex, and Bruce (not Batman) in summer 2015.

Wonder Woman this summer.
The Batman w/ Joker and Harley this winter 2016.
Justice League debuting Aquaman and Flash summer 2017.

Legs will be terrible even if people like the movie overall. False advertising is something audiences don't like. Joker heavily featured in marketing but barely in movie. That's a problem.

So are my friends I'm going with to see again on Thursday, but the tastes we do get are amazing and he really pulls you in

Seems you either liked Jared Leto's Joker, or you simply hate it.... doesn't seem to be any middle ground.

Some say he's like a modern day Cesar Romero:

like i said, polarizing.

I don't want anything spoiled for me before tomorrow night, but reading the comments on here though is a little bit concerning. I have waited since the end of the first time I saw TDK to see the Joker again. My expectations are already high, but not in a way where nothing could possibly live up to them if Leto doesn't shine line Ledger did....which is going to be very difficult. I would never compare Leto and Ledger. I do hope that Leto gives me something to hang onto until we see more of him with a much larger role.... Maybe this will be our Lex all over again??? Maybe what we see of this joker now, is not meant to really wow us...maybe they didn't want the movie to feel like a Batman/Joker/Harley movie...like someone else said, you cannot have Harley without the Joker, so he HAD to be in the movie. Lets just all hope that we will get the joker we deserve in a future movie. (Batman solo?) (Justice League?)

Yeah. I feel like they were so adamant in their "We're not copying Marvel! We're different!" mindset, that they thought they could go about doing the same thing Marvel did in a different way. And maybe they could have... there's no rule that says you "have" to do things Marvel's way... but if you're going to do something different you have to think it through. And it doesn't seem like anyone did. I mean, if that THR report is true, then the film Suicide Squad was initially intended to be isn't what we'll be seeing this week. And the main problem for that is BvS. BvS was so dark and gloomy and messy that WB apparently panicked and tried to make a movie about a bunch of VILLAINS more lighthearted and fun. If anyone there had any sense, they would have taken steps to ensure that the film with the TWO MOST ICONIC SUPERHEROES OF ALL TIME wasn't a depressing slog and let the movie about a team of killers and psychopaths be as dark as it needed to be.

For those that have seen the movie/in the know:

Do you think Leto can pull it back for a solo Batman movie?

Drop the tattoos/grills/modern gangster thing and go for something more classic?

Well, unless the tattoos are supposed to be temporary, he can't exactly just wash them off. But he could cover them up, except for the ones on his head. And I guess he could remove the grill without it affecting the continuity of the overall story.

Or, f*** it, if everyone ends up hating Suicide Squad, they could just skip the tattoos and not even explain it. I doubt anyone would mind.

Pretty funny Esquire article on Leto's "method acting."

Okay. It wasn't done there. The gifts have kept popping up in interviews with various cast members for more than a year: love letters, a dead hog, used condoms, etc., etc. We get it. The guy considers himself a "method actor," which, as I've said, is irritating if you're anyone except for maybe Daniel Day-Lewis. But you know what Daniel Day-Lewis doesn't do? Walk around telling everyone he meets that he's a method actor as if he's some sort of proud vegan.

:lmao:

Batman could always punch the 'Damaged' tattoo off of his face.

Nah, a Suicide Squad film this early in the game was actualy a very ingenious plan. It would vastly expand the DCU film universe, at the same time the studio would be able to do something their competition hadn't yet. It's only blowing up in their faces because the film have aparently not been very good.

i still don't get why everyone has such a huge problem with how he looks. it's just a facade anyway. characterization on the other hand,...

but, i will see that tomorrow.

Ideally that would have been better, but it would have been virtually identical to Marvel's first phase of films leading up to The Avengers, which WB/DC was trying to avoid.
