Aha. Not quite the same thing though is it? Hamill's performance is as much down to the animators as it is him. The man's a fabulous voice over actor, but let's not pretend that equals a full psychical performance. Ledger is the best live action Joker hands down, and if it were just a voice performance he'd still be better than Hamill IMO. Hamill is fantastic, but he's two dimensional fantastic most of the time. I'd put his and Leto's takes on about the same level.

Luke and oddly The Trickster show me he can do it. Not Luke for menacing, but an iconic character that's a legend today. The Trickster because in many scenes you see Joker. All you have to do is unlease him. Plus just watching Hammil in the both alone can be unnerving and that's just his voice and face.

This is so true. I feel the same for when people cite Kevin Conroy as the best Batman. He is merely the voice. That's not me under selling what a brilliant Batman and Bruce Wayne voice he is, but he did not put on that costume and physically bring the character to life. So I feel he and Hamill shouldn't be contenders in that regard when being compared to the other actors. Because the other actors had to do much more than just provide a voice.

To each his own, but I didn't like Leto's Joker.

His behavior seemed random, but a more stupid and forced random than what the actual unpredictable nature of the Joker should be. I think the amount of stuff he has going on with his absurd costumes, tattoos and grills + Leto's overacting was just too much of a distraction from what I think the Joker should actually be about. And lastly, I felt like this Joker was just a little child who was upset his girlfriend wasn't near him.

To be fair, this movie didn't give Leto a lot to work with, so maybe the problem was more with how character was written ... but I'd be skeptical about this Joker going into a full length feature film with him and Affleck's Batman.

I'm still saying though.... WHY CANT WE HAVE THIS?!?!

Even the laugh is better than that dying parrot ******** Leto kept doing.

Hannibal is brilliant. I can see that. Also The Following had a great Batman/Joker dynamic. Think from that clip one thing we can agree upon - best Joker would be rated R and full freedom to be psychopathic?

Has Conroy ever done live action acting? Mark has. That's why I rank him as best Joker overall, just should have been cast way younger so he could be live action. Plus the dude has range. He goes from ICONIC boy off the farm to ICONIC scariest villain/s ever. I'm hyped for episode 8 because Mark, I think, will show a truly amazing character journey and I know he can pull it off.

Yeah Conroy has done a lot of live action acting. But that doesn't automatically make him Batman material. Likewise with Mark. Can only judge on what they have done, not what you think they may be able to do.

I see it differently, but to each their own. What was Conroy in? Mostly B mogies or ever in any dramas or notable films? Basically anything suggest tracking down?

We can agree on these things. And yeah , a Ryan/Joe dynamic mixed with just a tinge of Hannibal/Will would make for a good Batman and Joker dynamic.

No. Joker can easily be PG-13, as evidenced by past material.

Man, I love me some Hamill's Trickster in Flash, and Luke is Luke, but Hamill's isn't exactly what you'd call a great actor. He's got his niche, but there's about as much depth there as a puddle. He call pull off OTT maniacal lunatic with the best of 'em, but his range is quite lacking beyond that. You mention farm boy - but, and let's be charitable here, he's a block of ****ing wood for a lot of Star Wars.

"But I was going into Toshi station to pick up some power converters!!"

Awooooogah.

Joker should never, ever be r rated in anything, ever. Any descent into that kind of material can be explored in graphic novels like AA. In live action though.... no. Let's not completely take him away from the younger audience.

Some schlocky soap operas, some bit parts on TV shows, but nothing I would urge you to track down and watch. He's done some Broadway as well, but I haven't seen any of that.

The animated Killing Joke release would like a word with you :o

I'm still confused how that got an R rating. I saw more blood and violence in the likes of Under the Red Hood.

And I'd like a word with it over half an hour of terrible Batgirl shenanigans, including THAT sex scene (okay, implied... but you get my point).

Just awful.

Leto: "Where there any scenes that didn't get cut ?"
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sVKW0izq5ps&t=53

I really really want to see a Joker edition or something.

He seems to be really salty about all of the stuff that got cut.

Can't say I blame him ... Especially if adding some of those cut scenes would make his performance stand out more (or if the cut scenes actually ADD to his character).

I give Leto a lot of credit for even having the guts to take on the job. Ledger's Joker is not just the best Joker, it is possibly the best villain performance I've ever seen in any movie. I doubt we will ever see anyone top it in the superhero genre. We can only hope that future DCU movies give Leto better material to work with...and maybe they will tone down the Hot Topic tattoos.

I feel bad that Ayer kept overhyping him the past year or so only to give him 8 mins of screen time.

Take away the emotion, but we've never seen a Joker actor walk into a worse situation. Heath had incredible pressure, but he was going into a better situation with people that knew how to handle the Joker.

Nolan had a plan in place. Seems Ayer just thought it would be cool to have the Joker in his movie.

However, he did himself no favors with all those set reports.

Are we blaming Ayer when the studio cut 95% of the Joker scenes? Don't get me wrong, if the writing sucked then Ayer deserves plenty of blame. But we'll have to see those cut scenes before we can make a full judgment of the situation. The one thing I believe Ayer and Leto deserve plenty of criticism for is the visual design. The whole punk/emo/Hot Topic thing just doesn't work and I seriously doubt the studio came up with it. They likely would have just done a straightforward Joker from the comics.

The only time I think Joker's design looks good is when he's in a black Tuxedo. It works with the whole "trying to make his face look more like a skull" thing, in my opinion.

I get why they did the design like the way they did; Joker would be the type of guy to "parody" gang/mafia life, but ... Eh. I just don't think it looks good.
