Jared Leto IS The Joker - - - - - - - Part 16

The #1 thing I'm upset about with the DCEU is this idea that they have to modernize their takes on villains to fit this generation. Both the Joker and Lex Luthor would have fit just fine in their traditional form, they didn't need to be "updated" to be "current". Holey unnecessary and in both cases hurt the characterization and appearance of the characters. Don't try to fix something that isn't broken. Both terrible ideas.

You weren't here in December 2007, were you? The trailer that was released in that month caused this forum to go absolutely nuts. Up until that point there was a lot of the same squabbling over the appearance of the character (just as we saw in the lead-up to Suicide Squad). But as soon as people got a halfway decent look at Ledger's performance, they knew it was going to be great. That trailer was released before he died as well.

I feel bad for Leto that so much of his performance was cut from the new movie and I'm curious to see the deleted scenes. I also give him a ton of credit for having the guts to take on the role. But I also think the studio wouldn't have cut almost his entire performance if it was some mind-blowingly great performance. They would have known they had the goods immediately. Test audiences would have told them as well.

Can you think of a an actor walking into a tougher Joker role?

Not the main villain
Backstory just for Harley
Not as much time devoted to developing the character script wise.
Even with the additional footage still probably the 3rd or 4th most important character in the movie (Deadshot/Harley/Waller)
First time comic book director
Then had to follow in Heath's footsteps

Heath had an incredibly difficult situation as well. But at least it was 19 years since we'd seen Jack and Nolan already delivered a classic comic book movie. We trusted the script.

Kudos to Leto for taking on the role and now dealing with the backlash. Hope he bounces back with Affleck.

Seems there were so many different cuts of this movie that maybe one of the editors threw that line in there. Then they forgot to clean it up.

So basically , the movie is a ****ing mess, nothing matters , the Joker is Jason Todd even though he killed Jason Todd, Harley is Jason Todd's mom but also Joker's lover , so she enjoys incest,Batfleck is actually Deathstroke, nothing matters anymore , decent storytelling is irrelevant

Just not the best execution.

Although if the execution was great it still runs the risk of being dated years from now.

Two thumbs up to that.

Heck, there were plenty of people who didn't trust it. Many of them had to be proven wrong with the actual footage, especially since the whole permawhite/scarred mouth thing didn't exactly instill a lot of confidence in people who wanted a classic Joker design.

I give credit to Leto for having the guts to take on the job so soon after Ledger. But at the same time I'm sure he got paid more than he ever has for any movie role...so it's still a big success for him regardless of whatever backlash might be out there.

Or maybe its just something attached to Harley over the years. No one knows the exact date Robin was killed (they certainly aren't going to have a funeral)

They just know Robin is suddenly missing/dead and as years have passed they assumed Harley was there as well.

Its been a lot of stuff falsely attributed to others in history :cwink:

So I've got to ask. Do you prefer the look of Joker in Suicide Squad or the Purple Lamborghini music video? In the music video his hair is a darker green, which I prefer, and has the black around his eyes, which is more traditional for Joker.

I agree w/ those that say Joker's look was inconsistent in Suicide Squad and this music video only adds to that, and shows the look can be altered.

idk. To me his look wasn't that different. I also am not sure how I felt about his appearance in the video in general. Seems like a dumb marketing ploy. Why the **** would The Clown Prince of Crime be chillin' with ****ing Rick Ross and Skrillex doing some sort of... Idk, drug deal , I guess? On a boat? Lmao

That song is pure fire tho

Its one of the best video's I've seen all year.

Then again I don't watch too many music vids like I use too, lol.

Wait, wait, wait. If Joker got his teeth knocked out and the Damaged tattooed after he kill Robin and Harely was an accomplice to robins murder, then why when he is in the straight jacket and he is talking to Dr. Quinzel, does he have the tattoos and fake teeth?

Plot hole!

Good catch!

Ugh.

As I posted just recently it could be just a thing attributed to Harley just because she's with the Joker now.

Happens in history all the time.

Robert Johnson was attributed something from Tommy Johnson's story, etc etc.

I mean they may have messed up, but there are easy ways to retcon it. Unless they did that on purpose for that fact.

Im still holding out for a Suicide Squad Joker Edition DVD, they said no rated R cut, but never said anything about not having an extended cut. Having a Joker Cut would be an easy way to make some extra dough.

Not sure we need a Joker cut. Cause it probably won't add to the movie.

They should just scrap up all the Harley/Joker origin pre-Belle Reeve footage and make a "Mad Love" edition to sell with the Blu-ray.

Exactly, the whole thing is a mess :funny:

If they do release a director's cut, why should it be called the "Joker edition"? Joker was't the only character that had scenes cut out of the movie.

WB did have a trailer company edit the movie and the little bit of info about Harley being an accomplice to Robin's murder wasn't spoken dialogue. In the original edition the character intros probably weren't there.

See, but how the **** could Harley have been an accomplice then, if he had the tattoos and grillz when she fricken met him?!

When driving, be careful of plot holes....

It crossed my mind today and I literally just came here to say this. :funny:

She couldn't. Snyder mentioned that Robin was killed some ten years ago and Ayer said that Joker's metal teeth are result of Batman knocking his real ones out (and I think it's safe to assume he did that right after Joker killed Robin), and not just that Joker had those teeth when he first meets Harleen Quinzel, but he has a tattoo of dead Robin as well.
Case closed - Harley being an accomplice in the murder of Robin is an error on their part that should be disregarded. Should be fairly easy to do so, given that no one in the film actually says it.

I don't think Ayer would make this mistake, so all these introductory titles must have been forced into film by someone else:

Someone who doesn't have a single clue when it comes to the timeframe of events in this universe.

That, or Ayer latched on to a fan theory and made it his own headcanon.

Die Antwoord is now mad at Ayer for stealing their look for Joker and Harley.

Yep, that's right. Die Antwoord.

Seems like the case tbh. Dude avoided discussing the details behind the tattoos this entire time and then people have already made up that theory >_>
