So yes...he's pretty much saying he wants Batman to be raped in prison.Though, all I recall saying is he would want Batman to be raped...not by Joker. It's just as dumb as anything else that comes out of Forever Frat Bro's mouth. But that's not the same as him saying "Dark would be if someone was raped in a prison". But maybe in your head it is. Whatever excuse you need to love on him and DC, even if it's a lie.

I could live with The Joker's skin tone being just pale flesh toned like that rather than white, the tattoos & jewelry though is hideous..

I was thinking about this the other day, it isn't even the tattoos that annoy me, it's just how darn right stupid & cheesy they are. Every single tattoo Leto's Joker has looks like something that the marketing team has come up with for a Joker t-shirt.. if they'd at least been somewhat normal or non-Joker related, I probably wouldn't even care.

I love how he softened it up by saying " someone " instead of " Batman " ... Maybe Snyder has watched that " Death Of Batman " fan film one too many times...

Yeah, most of them don't look like there was enough thought put into them, like "Oh this would be a cool joker tattoo", when if you're going to give Joker tattoos, you really want to try and get into his head, it's a good opportunity to think "What kind of tattoos would The Joker get?" And it just doesn't feel like they did that. It feels manufactured. Like, I would imagine, with the sense of kinship Joker has towards Batman, he would get a Batman related tattoo, just to mock him and get under his skin a little bit more. I do like the smile on his hand though, I think that one works, the way he holds his hand over someone'S mouth, frightened out of their wits, but appearing to be smiling.

I just finished watching Chapter 27, where Leto plays Mark David Chapman on the days leading up to the murder of John Lennon. I thought it was really good, but not for everybody, very slow and not much happens. But Leto does a great job, he immersed himself in the role and is very unnerving. Just goes to show that, with the right script and director, I think he has the chops to pull off a Ledger worthy performance of The Joker

I may be sad, but tis better to be sad and not a DCEU fan. :cwink:

"Bro, Superman would like, totally rip your arms out."

I really liked how when Cavill thought Supes was acting out of character, instead of listening, he'd challenge him to a pushup fight, and whoever lost had no say.

Yeah, no. Totally not something a frat bro would do. :hehe:

If you hate the DCEU so much, wouldn't it be simpler just to avoid the forums and topics correlating to it? ;)

I may not have liked his performance, but damn if I still don't admire this redesign. I can do without the tattoos (as everyone says), but overall it's still the right type of garishness I can expect from a modern Joker.

And it goes without saying how much Jared physically encapsulates the character already.

Still I'm genuinely unsure whether he can ever be a good fit for Joker. Ayer notwithstanding. It's not the first time an immensely talented actor simply did not and/or could not perform in a role.

The more time goes on, the larger and more looming Ledger's legacy gets. Even moving past Jared, I think it's going to be hard for the most seasoned actor to escape that performance's footsteps left in their wake. Which is to say intentioned or not, Ledger's Joker will bleed into your take. In the case of Jared, I think it may have hindered his capabilities. Is there anyone who doesn't think Jared (or anyone else) would've likely given a very different take had Ledger's not existed?

Yes, but following down that route, I'd also say that Ledger's performance would've been drastically different if Nicholson's take on the character didn't exist. I don't think Ledger's massive legacy is what hindered Jared. It was primarily having the character be utilized as a side piece instead of as a main character. Not to mention having subpar writing and a less than concise villain.

Even now, I see a lot of ticks and mannerisms from Leto that, to me, scream comic book Joker (and TAS). In this case, I think he is right for the role, but just needs directors like Reeves who can actually deliver something worthwhile for him to do. Ledger had Nolan and Nicholson had Burton, two people who had a clear vision of what they were going for.

With SS, Ayer definitely suffered due to the limited time he had to craft the story because it's all over the place. Get Leto in something that's well written and with a director that better understands the character and I think he stands a better chance of stepping out of Ledger's shadow to leave something more impactful.

Really? Ledger practically abandoned everything that was exclusive to Nicholson's, and that's part of why the performance was so refreshing to see. All props to Jack because he solidified Joker's spot in the GOAT villains list, but performance wise I see little to no influence from his successors.

I admit it's hard to separate the performance from the writing especially when there's little material already. I've tried and I do think Leto is still at fault for certain decisions, irrespective of what Ayer commanded.

It goes without saying it's likely the only way he'll have to redeem himself if he comes back. I don't know, I just felt so burned after looking forward to what Leto would do for so long. Blade Runner's coming up in a few months, so maybe if he's brilliant there it'll rejuvenate my confidence for him. I only fear his head got so big in the part he's not going to make the proper adjustments.

I love this, when people say this. I guess SW fans who didn't like the Prequels or R1 or TFA can't talk about it. Or Spider-Man fans who didn't like Spider-Man 3 or TASM movies can't talk about it. Or HP fans who didn't like the movies should stay away from topics discussing it. I am a fan of the Joker, and as such, I am more than welcome to discuss adaptations/aspects/versions of said character I didn't like on an open forum. If you hate seeing negative or dissenting opinions on the internet, you're gonna have a bad time. :funny:

In what sense is he unable to perform in this role?

What about his performance isn't appropriate for The Joker?

Honestly, the cynic in me thinks that if he didn't have those tattoos, much of the fan community would probably be embracing his take on The Joker.

However, when you go on and on and on and on, it goes from discussing something you disliked to you just hanging on and not being able to get over it. I have no qualms with people expressing a negative opinion towards something I like/am interested in, but it's illogical for anyone to consistently pop in just to seemingly make sure everyone knows just how much they hate it. That's irrational, which also ironically completely sums up the last several posts you've made in this topic.

    It's true.

But it's logical to go on a repeat loop about how much you like something. If you have an interest in a character or characters, you enjoy discussing anything and everything about them, including bad interpretations of them. There is nothing irrational about it.

What is out of line is trying to chastise someone for continually expressing their opinion. If you doubt me on that we can get a moderator in here to clarify it for you.

It's not. The tattoos being removed don't take away the other issues like ugly jewellery, the grills, the bland gangster garb, the horrible writing of the character, the bad dialogue etc.

I'm sorry, it's totally normal for someone to come into a thread and turn it into talk about one character raping another character and then when they get called on it resort to constantly stating how much they hate said product in the first place. Yeah, that's totally fine. :o

Another situation you've completely misread in your crusade to always try to counter me. :yay:

Yes, it is when he is simply quoting something a director involved in this franchise said about the Batman brand, for which the Joker is a part of. These are not his words. They are Zack Snyder's. A Necessary Evil was accused of making it up. Then he proved that accusation wrong. Now he's being chastised by you because you don't like him constantly criticizing on Letoker.

In what reality do you come off in the right here? Again we can get a mod in here to clarify this for you if you are so adamant that ANE is out of line.

Says the guy recently off a lengthy stint on probation.

Again this may just be the subpar writing at play, but almost his entire performance came off as forced theatrics rather than a formed character. Even on repeat viewings I can’t unsee Jared doing his hardest “look how method I am with this part!”.

Before the point is brought up I’m aware theatricality is ingrained into the character. But whereas Jack and Heath performed it naturally and believably, as a viewer I felt Jared was unsuccessfully trying to spoonfeed the message to me.

Speaking only for myself and a few friends in my circle, we were already on board with the new design. Short of actually dropping the ball, this new iteration was welcomed with open arms.

Just on this forum alone I spent over a year defending every creative choice, on the faith that the team-up of Leto and Ayer couldn’t possibly be bad. Lesson learned.

I'm still not seeing where Snyder actually said anything about one character raping another, much less the need for it to even be brought up and actually linger on throughout the topic. There's nothing to clarify. It's not about being against negative opinions or any other nonsense you're pointing to. It's about simply not derailing any thread, be it this one or otherwise, with complete garbage.

    It's that simple.

Says the guy who isn't the one derailing a thread with nonsensical b.s. and obviously trolling, nor being the one defending said derailing of thread and ludicrous posting and only shows up to post thumbs up emoticons and the same "well said" comment over and over again.

    Then you didn't read ANE's post http://forums.superherohype.com/showpost.php?p=35118723&postcount=278;

"But he doesn't, like, get raped in prison. That could happen in my movie. If you want to talk about dark, that's how that would go."

    http://uk.businessinsider.com/zack-snyder-old-interview-batman-prison-rape-2016-5?r=US&IR=T

No it's not. You were chastising ANE about coming here to criticize Letoker and the DCEU. It had nothing to do with derailing the thread.

If I am so obviously trolling and derailing the thread then report me. I've nothing to be ashamed of here. Go ahead.

I can call a Mod in if you won't do it, and settle this for you.

Which he tried to translate into a discussion of Joker raping Batman.

Except it did. If I were that hell bent on shutting down the comments that don't align with my preferences, why would I target him and not anyone else on the previous page who said they didn't care for Leto's Joker or the DCEU? Oh, that's right, because they weren't talking about characters raping each other. :o

There's nothing to settle. One member is derailing the thread with useless rhetoric and per usual, since I'm the one speaking against it, you're playing the role of public defender. But I'll just play this smart and put you on ignore.

    Defend away.
