Jared Leto IS The Joker - - - - - - - - - Part 18

That's what I've always thought, that they picked the shorter and simpler takes over the ones he provided that gave more depth to his Joker. I've heard the exact same thing, and even the behind the scenes footage supports this given how differently some scenes sound in them.

Even though some blame falls on Leto and some on Ayer for the reasons you stated, it largely falls on WB for encouraging Ayer to have a CGI ridden ending rather than giving him more time. If Ayer had more time, I think he would've came to the realization (sooner) that Joker would fit better as the primary antagonist.

Simply put, they used Leto and the audience. They had him get deep into character, doing all this work, and then hyped us up just to cut him out. And I get that, it's a SS story, not a Joker story. But again, all parties involved would've benefitted from him being the antagonist rather than Enchantress and Incubus.
Just doesn't help when the director is hyping it up like this.

"What Jared has done is absolutely incredible. When he steps onto the set the world stops." - David Ayer

I agree. It's always fine to compliment an actor or actress on their work but in the end it's best to just let the product speak for itself. Works out better that way by letting audiences create their own expectations.

Lets not forget the King of Planet Joker comments.

I feel like Leto's Joker is an all in or all nothing kind of character. Meaning he needs his own film in order to work to its full potential. Since things are so choppy it leaves room for people to pick it apart.

That's why I want him to have a main spot in the solo film. It'll give Leto a better opportunity to fully characterize his version of the character and in a far more cohesive manner. As stated before, I don't think improvisation is a strong point for Leto in the way it was for Ledger. He needs a good writing team to do him justice in that department.

Basically people who understand the character better than David Ayer.

How true.

I mean...my god did Lego Batman nail things about both of them that BvS didn't. His unwillingness to let people in. His dynamic with his world and the villains around him. Joker's dynamic and "love" for Batman, being his Yin/Yang.

Damn kids movies. :o

I actually think he did pretty well with characters like Deadshot, Boomerang, Harley, Waller and Diablo.

The issue for him was clearly Joker...even though I liked it.

Watching this movie again I really think there was just too much hype. Just as is its an enjoyable summer flick. The trailers were so excellent it made it seem like would be so much more and that it would be great.

If Nolan had multiple writers/input on The Dark Knight. Then Ayer certainly had no business writing the movie this movie by himself.

One or two more voices helping him with the script would have went a long way.

Leto did fine for what he was given.

The overall problem is that WB is trying to rush the whole DCEU because Marvel is already up and rolling, so more time may have allowed the project to be better as well.

And Ayer probably did have an extra voice in Geoff Johns. Problem is, that's not the right guy for input when you're trying to build a cinematic universe.

Overall, I do agree that Ayer delivered an entertaining summer movie. Heavily flawed? Sure. But it's in no way the worst movie ever or close even with it's plethora of flaws.

I agree about Leto, and will always stand behind the fact that I think he did just fine as the Joker.

After seeing the EC, I agree. The scenes with the essence of Joker's personality were cut in the theatrical version. Leto actually did a fine job of conveying hostility and annoyance toward Harley in their flashbacks. I really don't understand those cuts.

The EC version of the Arkham scene conveys those emotions as well. Combined, it creates the perfect atmosphere, almost TAS-like in the way it's presented. So I'll never understand either why anyone thought "oh hey, we should just cut anything that Leto did that expanded on his take of the character."

Kane, I'm always entertained by your gifs, but you're giving me flashbacks with this Romper Room stuff. The above gif might well be the worst few seconds in the history of Batman in non-print media.

Lol

Doubling down on the Lego Batman hate. It's a pretty untapped market around here, might as well go for all of it. We got ourselves a trailblazer, folks!

I'll always enjoy your very poor attempts at trolling lol

Had you seen the look that I gave my wife when she asked me what I thought of the film, you would know that my revulsion is genuine. I've loathed the Batman '66 series for decades and Lego Batman took all of the crappy aspects of that and turned them up to the explosive diarrhea level. I had a free pass and I still feel cheated.

Lol

I have to fight the urge to kick over Lego displays in department stores.

You don't have to be Dr. Phil to work out Lantern Venom's problem here. He was clearly denied the joy of having Lego toys as a kid. That's why he resents the awesome Lego movies. They remind him of painful memories of things he was denied in his childhood.
