Jared Leto IS The Joker - Part 5

Honestly I like every incarnation of The Joker for different reasons, and I enjoy seeing something different.

I really don't think his style will overshadow his presence, it's not where I find my eyes drawn.
There are superb aspects like his eyes which are so piercing and intense and creepy in projecting a disturbing persona, which evoke this visceral quality that I think will wholly capture us during his screentime (tattoos visible or not).

I'm happy with the potential I see and I can't wait.. it's a terribly long wait to finally get the whole picture.

I agree. the same old thing over and over again gets boring

While I have agreed here that the Joker's unpredictability plays a factor in this, I should clarify I don't think it's an argument in itself.

The argument I stick with is that no one here is able to see it from The Joker's perspective. The argument is why can't he have tattoos and still be The Joker, and what if he thinks it's funny, isn't that part of his nature? Many are presuming it's out of character, rather than considering why he would do it in character..

He's not some guy trying to be edgy and serious about his persona. It's either a strange show of narcissism or a hilarious inside joke for him. Or both. As has been said, context does matter and I'm betting we get some of that. Hopefully that could mean for some a newfound appreciation of what's going on here.

Few others? Unless I've been reading in the wrong places, the reaction has been predominantly negative to this. So it's more than a "few" others.

Your faith in Leto is admirable, and I'm not disagreeing that he could very well give a great performance, but it's not a justification to tell me or anyone else to "get over" anything, just because we don't like something and you do. Right now we've got more grounds to criticize than you do since we've seen something concrete from the movie that we have every justification to dislike, whereas you are basing your positivity on your faith that Leto will be great, when you don't know that for sure. Nobody does because we've seen nothing of his performance.

So if you don't like reading all this upset, then either put 90% of this thread on ignore, or leave the thread altogether. But don't get all high and mighty and tell me or anyone else to get over something we have every right to criticize. We don't tell you to shut up about your praise for it.

Fan boy blogs and dumb memes don't matter.

What matters is the general movie audience. Wait until we see his performance.

I remember people were whining about Ledger non permawhite and all that non sense and look what Ledger did....

All he did was win an Oscar. Were you one of those who kept complaining about Ledgers non perma white?

Don't worry...I will be going to other threads to avoid this whining and complaining non sense. Waste of my time and energy. How do you have the energy?

The Joker shouldn't peacock. That about sums up my complaints.

The performance is different from the appearance. People are mostly just commenting on the appearance.

Recast I say. Forget that hack Leto. :o

Gary Busey FTW.

I'll be honest. Jared's look is growing on me. My only issue is the tattoos on his face. Also, they're too neat looking. Did he pay (and killed) the tattoo artist?

:hehe:

Calm down.. it's the Hype. This is where you go when you want to see passionate hatred or angsty fapping over a concept.

I mean, I was terribly disappointed when I first learned about Batfleck but now I'm on board and get to be pleasantly surprised. It all works out in the end, or it doesn't. And then we get to implode over the next big thing.

I wasn't talking about blogs and memes. I was talking about Facebook, twitter, and places like here. Basically anywhere that has shown it and garnered a considerable number of reactions. Can you find anywhere that shows a majority positive reaction on-line?

Why does general audience opinion only matter? What are you a studio head who only cares how much money that movie will make? If you don't care what fans think then what are you doing here registered on a superhero forum engaging in discussions and getting annoyed at us?

Why do several of you keep using the initial knee jerk reaction to Ledger's Joker as a crutch to defend this? When people saw his full look and not just that close up shot of his smeared make up face, and saw him in the full with the green hair, purple suit, purple gloves, white face and red lips, all coming together and looking like a great creepy Joker, they got on board with it. We've not been given some little snippet obscured facial shot of Leto. We've been given a full pic. Unless these tattoos and silver teeth and punk rocker look is going to magically vanish, I don't see this even being in the same league as the Ledger reaction.

And no, I was on board with Ledger's Joker as soon as I saw his full look (this was when we had seen nothing of his acting performance which is totally different to his appearance). I even wrote a blog showing how close his character was to the comics; http://jokerfans.blogspot.ie/

Man some of the defensiveness in here...

I would argue trying to validate this horrendous design with the "Joker is unpredictable" line of reasoning is what makes fans look bad. I don't begrudge anyone who likes the design, but if you're going to cast stones at what makes fans look bad, it's using such a thin logic to validate a poor design.

It's very valid logic and reasoning. Not weak at all actually. The beauty of Jokers character is his psychotic unpredictable persona.

Is the beauty of his character based on his suit design or if he is perma white or not?

If you don't like the design....that is one thing and if this is the final look (without clothes only of course) than that is something you and others are going to have to deal with for awhile.

However, you can't deny that the root and genius of his character is his unpredictable sinister persona and not really on how he looks.
