BvS Jason Momoa is Aquaman!

If AM had the same kind of popularity and appeal as a character like Superman I would agree with you, but if there is any character in the DC pantheon that needs a remake it IS Aquaman.

You keep saying that, but not a single person who makes fun of Aquaman does it because of his hair.

Aquaman has never been able to manipulate water.

He's had a remake. A few times. They're pretty awesome. What Aquaman needs is people to stop basing their opinions of him on what Chuck Lorre and Seth MacFarlane say.

I'm not a huge proponent of drastically changing certain aspects of a Comic Book character, personally, only speaking for myself, I love when an actor looks the part and they stick to the majority of the characters backstory/personalities/characteristics. These characters all have defining traits that I believe should be adhered to. It makes the experience far more entertaining for me. There are plenty of good actors that can both give a good performance while also looking the part, whether they naturally look the part or have to make some kind of changes to look the part. Having the character look the part adds a great deal to the believability of an actors portrayal of the character IMO. But it is not absolutely necessary.

That said, I'm not against changes either. I'm fine if they let Momoa keep his current hair color, would I prefer he be blonde, absolutely but it's not the end of the world if he doesn't dye his hair. Just like I have no problem with them giving him the ability to control bodies of water, I prefer that over his traditional communicating/controlling sea life creatures. Some changes are for the better, some are ridiculous and shouldn't be considered. I don't find the addition of that power ridiculous, I find it interesting.

Still yet to see Momoa act in anything so I won't comment much on this casting until I do, other than to say that without seeing him act, I like the casting quite a bit. Hopefully he's a good actor to boot. Also add me to the group that is glad to see Aquaman be a part of the Justice League, not including him would have been disappointing for me.

He does have that power though, right? I guess I have always associated that as a key power. I'm not really sure what the trident does, but he usually has it in his hand when he's doing something awesome.

As I mentioned before, he was given the water bearer hand which had a sort of manipulation.

He could control the temperature of the water and shoot water out of it, but I can't recall if it was anything special... aside from being able to dehydrate someone and kill them.

He manipulated water in Smallville.

I like Momoa as an actor. I believe he fits the version of Aquaman as a bearded, long-haired, noble, physically powerful, battle-scarred warrior. In that sense, I get the casting. He's already/always in shape, he's got some star power and recognition, plenty of experience, and he can act. Off the top of my head, I can't really come up with a better choice, given the time frame. Obviously, the character has always been white and blonde. Even with the manips, I personally just don't see him as Aquaman, as I've known him from the comics and cartoons. However, Snyder & Co. have done very well with costumes and makeup over the years. I'm looking forward to seeing how it turns out.

Does anyone think he should have webbed fingers and/or toes?

Patrick Duffy as Mark Harris/Man from Atlantis

Back in the 1970's there was a TV series here in the US called "Man from Atlantis", which starred Patric Duffy as Mark Harris (the Man from Atlantis). The character had webbed hands and feet which allowed him to swim fast underwater. What was also remarkable about the character was that he would swim with a dolphin kick and not the normal flip flop of his legs and feet that most humans do to swim.

It should go without saying that because of the sensation of the series (which only ran from 1977 to 1978), Marvel Comics printed a seven issue title featuring the character. Because of the similarity, I would not encourage the producers to develop Aquaman in this fashion.

Again, I am an AM fan, just not so much of a purist that I need him to have blond hair. I don't and have never thought he is lame, but I think he needs some kind of overhaul for his first big screen appearance. As I said before, the color of his hair is immaterial in the scheme of things unless you're a purist.

Ahhh thanks! I know he he has that power.

Also, thanks for posting that gif dnno1.

Second question, do you give him the ability to "shut down" human brains?

Yeah, I'm have say no to that, but some form of psychic power wouldn't be remiss.

If he can use telepathy to influence a whale or a dolphin, then he should be able to screw with a human brain in my opinion.

I remember there was an issue where PC Aquaman let out a telepathic burst that was so strong it sent every living thing within its radius for a for a loop. I also think that giving him that kind of power would also earn him some respect from those who think he is just a wimp.

Agreed! Great post.

He has used telepathy in the past with humans depending on whose writing.

During the period where he was leading the Justice League, it came out he was using his powers on his teammates without their consent. I think it came out that this really obnoxious hero named Steel (not the black guy) was getting mentally shut down every time he complained or questioned Aquaman's leadership qualifications.

I really think his telepathy shouldnt be limited to sea animals. If your a telepath your a telepath species shouldn't matter. What could be communicated should be different because some animals react more to instinct that conscious thoughts

I like the idea of him being able to control low level animals, they don't have to only be in the sea..he should be able to have some telepathic effects on people, but nothing to the extent of Martian Manhunter's abilities

J'onn as far as I know he is the telepath in the DC universe similar to Prof X in marvels.

Plus if he can control low level animals it gives him a even greater reason to be an eco terrorist.

I'd be fine with black hair. I don't think Momoa would look right with blond. I do think keeping the blue eyes though would make for a cool contrast with his darker skin. Kinda like Aqualad in Young Justice. I always thought that was a really neat visual.

Also didn't Aquaman have a sword at some point?
