Jason Statham to take on Meg

Are you getting the feeling that the filmmakers were nervous about making this is a serious film? The more spots I see, the more goofy it looks.

I love all the posters for this movie. They have me convinced the filmmakers knew exactly what they were making (something along the lines of Deep Blue Sea but with more tongue-in-cheek factor), and that I'm going to have the greatest time watching this.

I predict this rakes it in opening weekend along with the top box office of the summer! (right behind the Marvel movies, I mean, but even then who knows?) We haven't had a good shark movie in a while (The Shallows was passably decent but not really a shark movie) and audiences always love a good shark movie, right?

Hahaha this is going to be absurd. No way the people behind this have any other intent.

I don't blame the filmmakers. I blame whoever they hired to do the promotional material for it who seemingly have no idea what tone this movie is going for.

It's giving off the vibe of an Emmerich or Bay type blockbuster. So people will probably die but it'll mostly be action packed fun.

This wasn’t meant to be a serious film...

Seriously? Haha

Funny, Ruby Rose looks like a CG character at 1:26 :)

lol she does.

It doesn't really bother me all that much. I just want the shark to look cool and terrifying and to eat a lot of people.

It doesn't bother me either and neither I will be bothered to see the character chewed down Jaw's style :)
I find this actress attractive so it struck me that's all.. and she also have a touch of Angelina Joli in her face, well, you get the picture :)

It's Jason Statham vs a Shark. C'mon people..... Serious.....hahaha.

It will be a missed opportunity if this is not nearly as fun as Rampage.

He will never top be able to this

Well, the books had a very serious tone. Maybe everyone knew it wouldn't translate to screen well so they are going the Sharknado route I guess.

This does not seem to be going the Sharknado route at all. Asr below here describes it perfectly and it seems pretty obvious but I guess some are for some reason not picking up on this.

It does look like they just made it into a goofy action film. But I dunno, could a movie like this even be made in 2018 into a Jurassic Park like film and be taken seriously?

The books may have dealt with everything seriously, but the excerpts I've read and interviews from the author are so hyperbolic in the subject matter itself that it screams unintentional hilarity. (If I recall correctly, the given explanation for an extant megalodon population is that they live in warm water near hydrothermal vents and were able to brave the trip through the cold depths to "our world" by following the blood trail of a freshly-killed member of their brethren or something like that.) If anything, it seems like the filmmakers were the ones who realized this -- even though the author didn't; he took it fully seriously as a scientific plausibility to the point of trying to defend his work from critiquing marine biologists and paleontologists who were asked to review the first book -- and thus made it parodic.

It does look like they just made it into a goofy action film. But I dunno, could a movie like this even be made in 2018 into a Jurassic Park like film and be taken seriously?

It definitely could. A big-screen version of Primeval (the BBC series, not the giant croc movie) or something of that nature would definitely be more seriously shot and marketed.

I loved Primeval for its time, but I feel like they never wanted to make a more serious film here, especially after they cast Statham.

Nah, not really. Again, the filmmakers probably read the book and thought "Oh, this is too perfect..."

I love the kind of ocean sci fi feel of this poster. Ocean fi?

Anyway, I’m reading the book and it’s really not that good. In the first 20 pages or so the writer only describes the women characters by their breasts. It would be interesting to read the script and to see if it begins with “Jason stathams character gets out of a sub with a visible bulge line” etc etc.

The only women characters who’s breasts he hasn’t described has been the meg’s So thank god for that

Oh I’m allowed to tweet about The Meg now too.

I LOVED The Meg. It is exactly the bonkers, snowball of excess, wild, dumb, fun movie you are hoping for. It knows exactly what it is but is just serious enough to keep you invested.

#TheMeg *is* like JURASSIC PARK and JAWS on steroids. A total, mega-fun crowd-pleasing riot with bite that’s a gargantuan amount of mega-entertaining, mega-intense thrills. An absolute must see with a crowd. @Themeg2018 @MegMovie @wbpictures

#TheMeg is the most enjoyable movie of the summer. You'll scream, you'll laugh, and you'll stay the hell out of the water.

Seriously, I can't sing this movie's praises enough. It's pure fun from start to finish. Everything you want out of a trip to the movies. @MegMovie

You must see #TheMeg on the biggest screen you can. It's a blockbuster in every sense of the word. Total creature feature fun goodness with a serious budget behind it.

Forget dinosaurs. @megmovie is the real prehistoric deal.

If you love the creature feature boom of the '90s (DEEP RISING, ANACONDA, LAKE PLACID, DEEP BLUE SEA etc.) when studios actually put serious money and talent into these movies, #TheMeg is necessary viewing. You will have a smile plastered on your face the whole time. @MegMovie

Yeah that seems about right.

They showed a new clip from the film last night during shark week. Great little clip I can’t wait to see this, looks like a ton of fun. Those tweets are exactly what I’m expecting with a film like this and that’s all I’d ask of it. Creature feature goodness, dumb fun and aware of what it’s doing. This is gonna be a blast.

Yep! Sounds like the kind of big screen spectacle fun I was hoping for, and getting way better recieved than I expected to be honest.
